Dream Quad: TRX400EX. Add: Switchable 4 wheel drive. Reverse. More horsepower. If they could add all that and keep the same weight and suspension travel I would be happy! :-)

Roostking, Have you checked the lower connecting rod bearing? I had a friend going through the same thing. ie Blaster puffing every 3rd ride. Until he had the lower bearing changed out. Now I have the Blaster and it hasn't blown in 3 years. It is my wifes and she is easy on it, but sometimes I get on and burn the carbon out. Also, I have let my friend beat the crap out of it for an hour or two. Still working... Anyway, just tbought I would mention checking the play issue in the lower bearing. phil

First of all, the Humer was made from the Humvee. The Humvee was made for Government in 1979 then around 1993 the makers of Humvee decided to make a model for suvilians(spelling). Do you know what Quad means? A Quad has 4 wheels, not six. WHERE THE HELL DO YOU LIVE? What's my dream Quad? Let's see - One that is paid for, needs no maintenance, never runs out of gas or breaks down, always gets me where I want to go when I want to get there, pulls or carries anything I need or want it to, loads and unloads itself to and from the trailer or the back of the truck, (And especially takes care of the tiedowns too!) and automatically upgrades itself with whatever fancy new bells and whistles the manufacturers come out with each year! Now this is my idea of a "dream" quad! Seriously, I, like most of the quad world am not into racing. For those who want it, go for it! You only live once so go for what you want! I honestly don't care what I am riding as long as I can ride - if they didn't make the brand I own I'd have bought something else! Like many folks, I bought the quad I got the best deal on, the one several people I know owned, the one that came from a local dealership I felt I could trust, the one I could scrape up enough money to purchase and the one that satisfied me for the type of riding I do and the places I ride. I know this is not what this thread is really about, but I couldn't resist! Mark Vinson - mark1@ipa.net

I don't have a dream QUAD. I will take a new Max IV with all accessories.

Posted by: MaxRules

Ok men I have a dream quad. I'll take a Polaris Sportsman 500 with the best mud tires possible. That is all. I admit, if I had an extra $6000 laying around I would be on my way to the Polaris dealer instead of typing this. I really love my Max though, and I don't think I can give up the amphibious ability. The only way I would want a quad is if I also had my Max. I just got done swapping the front tires so I get even better traction in mud. For those of you who say it is no fun to not get stuck, I have found a mud hole that I can not completely make it across. I can make it 3/4 of the way then it stops. I can back out though. Now that I have my tires swapped I am going out there tomorrow and giving it pure hell. This mud is over the tires, we are talking serious mud. The main problem is that there is lots of air trapped in this mud and it causes suction. It holds anything that gets in it. If you step in even like 6" of it with boots on, it holds you so tight you have to fight with it a while before you can take a step. What makes it worse is that it stinks like a rotting carcus. But, I must conquer the unconquerable!

Since this is the 3rd rebuild in 8 months on the 85 LT 250 R (time to retire?) I would say my dream quad would be one that ran for at least 3 months at a time! RoostKing

Posted by: RoostKing

Philzie, Although I have not yet, that was going to be my area of concern. You see, this time a simple little peice like a thrust washer was my downfall. A 1/2 peice broke off and wedged itself between my piston and the cylinder! Can you say seized! At 2:00 am out at the dunes.. Not fun. ANyhow, something had to cause that thrust bearing/washer to break. IT was a new rebuild as well.

My dream quad doesn't cost a ton, weighs less than 400 lbs, out accelerates just about anything this side of a pure hill shooter, has 9 inches of suspension, runs all day and night, throws a 20 foot roost, sounds sweet, is comfortable, reliable and the envy of every dune rider that doesn't own one. Oh, wait a minute... I just described my Banshee. hehehe

Posted by:

Hmmmm my dream quad? How about a Banshee that handles like a Honda 250R with the same reliability. Kinda like the one I'm currently slowly putting together. How? '96 Banshee, LRD adjustable pipes, Rad valves, Pro Design air filter kit, Renthal bars, twist throttle, AMP link, AC racing 6 pack rack, DG Baja rear skid, White Bros rear shock rebuild and ITP alum..190 wheels w/ Sand Skate II's rear and Mohawks upfront done already. Future improvements include Custom Axis shocks up front, Roll Design A-arms (stock) Port and polish, crank trued and welded Hinson clutch and side case, LRD/kiehin 30 carbs, Cascade seat cover, 5.6 gal tank, cool head and Pro design billet shifter. From research I've done, this should create a fast, well mannered, reliable machine with great looks. Notice no "big bore" or drastic engine mods. Just things to improve already great performance or enhance durability, reliability and/or fixability. The keys to not getting towed home and remaining out of the shop. ------------------ '96 Banshee, '86 250R 4TRX, 2 '83 185S

Can I have two????... 1.) A 500cc Polaris (or Honda if they made one like this) Liquid cooled, 4 valve 4-stroke. No STOCK CRAP!! higher compression piston, aftermarket cam, K&N filter, flowed carburetor(or fuel injection would be sweet), performance exhaust with a snorkel for running in deep water.(lets go ahead and snorkel the airbox too) If its a Honda type AWD/4WD.. then it would need a locker. If its a Polaris, then snorkel the tranny vent. Rule 3000# winch, Highlifter lift kit, 27" Vampires on Aluminum beadlock wheels. Front and rear Oxlite bumpers, Oxlite bootguards, full aluminum or steel skidplates, large fuel capacity, and VERY comfortable seat. 2.) A Scrambler 500, but trash the AWD stuff, send it to Jenny Craig for some weight control..(i'd live with 400-410 lbs.) roller clutch, 42mm carburetor, Supertrapp IDS exhaust, concentric drive, adjustable front struts, more adjustability on the rear shock too.. .190 beadlock aluminum wheels. And the plastic molded in Satin Blue.. (with Satin Black accents, like the hood, seat, handlebars.

How about a DS650 push button AWD Ohlins shocks all the way around that weighed 350#. David Bean 99 Scrambler 400 99 Warrior

Mine would be that one that Darth Maul rode in Episode One. My Magnum will handle some bumps, but I wouldn't ride it off a couple hundred foot cliff like he did. ------------------ Kevin Staton Windrock ATV Club 2000 Polaris Magnum 325 4x4

I wouldn't mind having that TRX 600EX that was in Dirt Wheels a year ago

2000 'Zilla: LIghter weight (by about 80-100 lbs.), 24" of suspension travel,(both ends) a radical new color and sticker scheme, +6 swingarm, and Laeger stock length A-arms. And a dyno rating of about 100 horse! FMF everything, and oh yeah, everything that Mark Vinson's quad has! ,,,Freddie [This message has been edited by freddie889 (edited 08-04-1999).]

I'm beginning to think that the DS650 is my dream quad, but if it turns out that it is now, I'd like a Warrior with a FST 500 engine. The Ohlins shocks that Mission Yamaha put on their Banshee in DirtWheels. A real good low end pipe for the woods. Lots of chrome and details. Oh and an endless gas tank. ------------------ Kevin JA Works of Georgia 1996 Yamaha Warrior

My quad would be a YZ426 engine in a 400ex chassis. thats really about it. that engine sounds awesome. maybe some year yamaha will put it in a quad. ------------------

The 2001 Arctic Cat sport quad. Info today says its comming. I would hope for a ZRT 600 triple two stroker. Price at 7500 I would buy one.

Mine is the 2001 TRX 250R.

Hmmmmmmm.......the choice is OBVIOUS. Its like what the army did to the Hummer to make the "Humvee". I'd do the same with an atv. I'd give it some armor, and put armor all around the atv, with a helmet that has night vision that would let me see beyond the bullet proof window to see forward. It would be 6x6, and can go 30 mph. I'd like to add a machine gun on the top or a rocket launcher. (preferably the rocket launcher). And Thats my "DREAM QUAD". ------------------ Alibaba '98 Honda 300ex, '97 Honda Recon, '86 TRX125

My Dream quad would have to be the 500 foreman 4x4 that Scott from highlifter made. The only thing I don't get is why he didn't make that upgrade on a 450? He could have had a 550 then. Oh well I think in real life he has the baddest swamp going quad around.

Posted by: POC

I'd have to go with Mark (WAY back up the thread) About one that is paid for, gotten cheaply and works..... I just got my first quad, and I know it isn't the biggest, best, fastest, or anything..but it gets me around. THAT has been a dream of mine for years! Patrick
