JWool,Some phones definaitly work better than others! I think it is more dependent on your cell company than anything else.I have a Nokia 5100 series from Cellular One. It works well in the Nemadji. Cellular 2000 phones work well also. The cell companies from the city tend to be the ones that don't work.I've yet to find an area in the state that I couldn't get a signal at or within a close distance. Unfortunatly my own house is one of those little deadspots though. I get full signal on my roof but no service on the ground, guess thats the price you pay for living on the river. The bluff on the other side blocks the signal. Hope this helps.

I have mci world.com phone. I have many dead areas
up north. If your Near duluth the phone usually works. As soon as I get 10 or 20 miles away, I get static. Its suposed to be a roming zone but it sure seems like a very limited area. Hinckly is just far enough away from the twin cites and just far enough away from duluth to also be a bad area.
When are they going to fully cover the whole state, I wonder? rangerchet

This isn't an ATV question, and I'm sorry for asking here but I don't know where else to ask. Anyways my question refers to cell phones. I have a cabin bordering the Nemadji State Forest. It is near Hinkley. I can't seem to find a phone that will work there. I have noticed some of you have been riding near this location. Have you had any luck with a cell phone in this area of the Nemadji?
Thanks for any responses
Again, sorry for the off topic question.

Thanks guys. I have a Voicestream phone and that doesn't work there at all, but works near 35W. I recently bought a Verizon phone, which is supposed to work everywhere in MN. It did not work at my cabin last weekend, but it was cloudy, and they said that the clouds can interfere. I am going to try it again this weekend. If it doesn't work, I might try Cellular 2000. These phones really piss me off.

AT&T is the way to go. I've been as far north as Grand Marais. No roaming and no long distance $59 a month. 600 minutes. No problems at all. Hinckly has never been a problem either. I just roam.
