The first atvs can be traced back to eary 1970's in Japan. They were used by disgruntled farmers who could not tend to their fields because their tractors got stuck rather quickly in the constantly wet fields of monsoon season. Hence "the fat tires" and started with three tires.

Not much, but here is something you might be able to use. The first 4 wheeled ATV was made by Suzuki. I can not remember the year for sure, but I think 1984?????

Raptor Rider, There is nothing to back my ATV history trivia except my BS'n with others.
1. There are more farmers with ATV's than recreational users.
2. The vast majority of ATV purchases are done through implement companies. (Farm equipment)
3. Japanese thought it was funny to see Americans riding 3-wheelers for enjoyment when they were first marketed in the US. Honda thought they could not compete with the smaller or hobby tractor being marketed at the time.
Don't forget to add ATV present and ATV future to your paper.
Good Luck
