Here it is, the annual hunting thread. Some seasons are open depending on state so tell us about your trophies...whitetails, mule deer, elk etc etc. Better yet put a pic on your page so we can see them. Good luck to everyone and have safe hunts.

I started our Wisconsin archery season on a good note by taking a 12 point, it is a 10 point with split brow tines opening night. It has a 17" inside spread but the rack has alot of character with split brow tines and 6 inches around the bases and very bumpy. What I really like is the hanging velvet.

There are pics on my picture page along with pre-season pics of this buck in full velvet.

Thanks Guys

It was actually fairly cool for the opener this year, 40 degrees at night and mid 60s during the day. Last year it was 80 degrees and had to cut my buck up right away after registering it.

The month of August I probably had 12-15 different bucks on the trailcam and the first week of Setpember it dropped to 4, the one I shot, a very tall tined 8pt, a nice fork and a little scrubby 8pt with 2" tines. Not sure what happened to them all but it was about the same time the oat field got cut that my cousin plants on my land.....maybe some of them moved on after the oats were gone?

There have also been many bear traveling the ridge where I hunt(saw 6 opening day)that may be causing the deer to chose different travel routes....who knows.

Congrats on that buck! That is a nice one!

I'm not going to get a chance at bow this year for various reasons but I'm looking forward to rifle season. I've been doing my scouting here on the farm an there are three good bucks I'm looking to shoot. One in particular I've been trying to kill (and so has everyone else in the surrounding area) for the past three years or more. He's a crafty old deer and he knows how to stay alive. He goes nocturnal during deer season and he is incredibly elusive. I had one chance at him last year in the timber at dusk in the timber but he stayed just on the other side of some brush and trees and I didn't have a clear shot. Told him next year. Guess we shall see.

Just about got two really nice bucks with the front end of the truck tonight. Barely missed putting both of them into the grill. About 10 miles from home though so I won't see them during hunting season. Gotta quit traveling after dark and around dusk.

Turkey season in full swing but I haven't had a chance to go yet. Haven't even picked up my free Landowner tags yet. Turkeys wander around in the backyard every day for a few hours keep begging me to get busy and shoot them.

haywood - very nice pics. Unfortunately, the deer here in So Cal are tiny compared to what I am used to up in Nor Mn. The last two years I have gotten my deer in the first hour; hoping to do a three-peat this year. I have two tags, so at least the freezer will be full. Just returned from a hunt in South Africa and Namibia last Monday, have some decent pics on my page.

In South Africa I used a 7mm Rem Mag, and in Namibia I used a .300 Win Mag. I didn't bring my own gun as I knew I would be stopping in Senegal and Botswana and didn't want to deal with the hassel in those two countries. The first animal I shot was the kudu. That one took three shots. The next 12 in a row was one shot, one kill.

VERY nice. I'm not seeing anything like that out here on the coast.

Good luck to everyone with their hunts. I do envy all of you. It has been 5 years since getting a tag here in Nevada. Have been limited to hunting deer with a camera which gives just one more excuse for getting out on the quads. Got out yesterday and saw over 20 muley bucks, but could only shoot them with a camera.

Can pictures be posted using photobucket or similar type service? If so I grabbed some cool pictures.

Posted by: LoboCop

I got the pictures issue figured out and these are the muley's I saw yesterday.

Posted by: LoboCop

I live in northern Nevada east of Reno/Carson City in a small community called Silver Springs. The Carson River is just below my house and runs through some large ranches, these muley's were on one of those ranches.

Having hunted several times in Wyoming I can tell you hunting there is great ... but take some warm clothes as it gets REAL COLD in the winter.

I got some posted up on my page and they should show up in a while. I had to crop them heavily and some of the bucks aren't showing, but you should get the idea. Enjoy the pictures.
