Putting bait out does NOT guarantee deer will show up.

In this part of WI, the DNR is so worried about deer overpopulation that they offered extra tags for $2 each, no limit. At the same time, they hold hearings on whether or not to eliminate the use of bait, such as corn, around deer stands--one of the more effective tools for harvesting deer. ...That was just something I pondered during many hours on my deer stand last week.

Aint that the truth. Anyone who spends much time in the woods knows you can never guarantee that anything is DEFINITELY going to happen. I'm just saying that it seems strange that the DNR is so desparate for us to harvest more deer, and at the same time they are considering elmination of a tool that could help to achieve that goal.

Is it truly hunting if you know they're DEFINITELY going to be there though??

Oh I know it doesn't guarantee, I was just sayin'. I don't personally, but whatever works!!

Here in Ontario the deer population has exploded in the last 5 years....seeing deer where i live isnt such a big thing as it used to be, plus the mild winters help a lot. There is only a shotgun, blackpowder and bow seasons where i live ....NO rifle....too many houses for that...but if i drive 30 min north they have rifle seasons
So many ppl around here are trying to get deer hunting banned around here because of ONE incident where someone was killed by a hunter. some stupid lady was walking through the bush in hunting season when she was shot by a hunter, she wasnt wearing any orange but its definatly his fault for shooting her cuz he couldnt see waht it was just shot...but still..who would take the chance and walk through the bush in hunting season?? ( she was trespassing too , not her property anyways). All these tree huggers make me sick, i guess they would rather the deer get killed on the highways(and end up killing the person too), rather then by hunters

soybean and corn crops are all the bait anyone should need... well acorns and water alsoBR>
In my young stupid days I tried it and personally never saw a decent buck come into bait.. by bait I mean salt blocks and deer cocaine stuff. Doe would show up, but bucks stayed clear back in the thickets untill dark. Ive personally done far better by hunting off the land and not using any attractants. The only attractant you need is a good doe thats in heat Find the doe, and you find the bucks
I believe game wardens and etc dont want you using bait since it makes the deer somewhat tame, and takes them away from their wild nature and feeding off natural food. However, food plots and etc are fine since its grown by the land.
They opened doe season here in Va for the last 4 weeks of season. The past years we only had 2 weeks. The buck to doe ratio here so so wacked it isnt funny. Its about 20 doe to every 2 bucks. Mainly because everyone shoots every spike that comes by during buck season
