hey brent thanks for the tip this is a good place to find out what you want to know

Posted by: gsettle081

Thanks Bob... I was not sure who he was and could not check his profile. How is the job gong?? Is anybody stilll up for the 28th in Antlers? (or whenever you guys decide)

Posted by: RedneckSooner

Hello Everyone,

My Wife and I are relatively new to the ATV World (1 Year). As odd as it may sound my wife actually talked me into buying her our first ATV for her birthday last year (Me being the cheapskate, figured we would not have many places to ride so why waste the Money). Well a year later and a whole lot of fun riding around in cow pastures and small creeks we decided to buy a second ATV (One ATV with 2 Adults and 2 Kids got kind of crowded). Now that we've got two ATV's we started looking around on the internet for possible places to ride. Well luckily we came across the Central Oklahoma ATV Club and new members were born (thanks again bob for all the info and invite to join the club). I've been browsing the forum reading posts for the last couple of days and must say the club and it's members sound like a wonderful group of people. I am looking forward to meeting you guys and doing some riding.

Anyways I just wanted to sign on and introduce myself and look forward to attending my first meeting.

Thanks,

Gary Smith

Welcome Gary and Andy. Hope to see you on the River soon. ( or in Antlers, or Ada, or Muenster, or Lake Murray, or where ever you guys come up with places to ride.)

Gary--Your story abotut buying a quad is almost like Mine. We certainly have not regretted it.

Posted by: trailride

I think we will try to ride at Purcell sunday . Anyone up for that day ? Say 12ish

Brent

Posted by: HavinSomeFun

Sunday on the river sounds good to me! how was that place you went last Sunday?

Posted by: trailride

Kevin,

Same old river , different location

Posted by: TyShark9

I'll probably be able to ride on sunday. I try to get there around 1 or so. Any sport quads coming?

Tyler

Posted by: lvthoutdrs

I am now building trailers for hauling quads. If anyone needs one or needs one repaired or modified, I would be glad to give a quote.
Will custom build to your needs.
Also any accessories like fuel jug racks, tire racks, etc.

I have to work this weekend. IT is possible that the weekend of the 28th may be open for me...I should know a week from tomorrow I guess.

Bob "I hope I know" Bobman

Welcome aboard, Gary & Andy!!!

If nothing else, there are some people who joined after me so Gordon and Kieth will have someone else to pick on.

Hopefully, Brent and I will have figured out the axle and Me and Missy will be there on Sunday.

What would I do without all you guys (Especially Brent, God bless him).

My next accessory may be a new Quad if I have 1 more axle break BR>
Jason

Posted by: nukeim

I'll try to make it Sunday, but Saturday looks better for me riding, as I have to be at work Sunday night/Monday morning.

We'll see.

Welcome to all the new folks!

Posted by: HavinSomeFun

So I think the plan is.....................

Everyone who wants to ride this Sunday at Purcell is meeting around noon or one? No meeting, cookout or anything, just a ride and some sand throwing (perhaps some grizzly sinking). Is that about correct? If it is I will be inviting some other folks to come join us.

Kevin

Posted by: lvthoutdrs

I am going to LS again on Sat. If anyone needs a haul or someone to ride with, give me a call. I have room for a couple more quads. I will be leaving the Newcastle area about 7:00 am. Will be back before dark. If you have never been to LS, give it a try. You dont need paddles as the dunes are not that tall.

Bob , do you have to work all weekend ?

Andy, This sunday good for you ?

Jason, You have a P.M.

Brent

I'll try Brent...But no promises.

In other news, I talked to my connection (read also: next door neighbor), and he says that I can get some more of those burgers. Deadline is this Tuesday, after that...WHERE'S THE BEEF?

I know Keith wanted a box, and I think Bob wanted one...Anybody else? Oh, and I need the money up front. I got burned for about $80 last time I did this for several people.

Posted by: TyShark9

hey Mike,

I might be able to ride on sat. if you still want to. I'll have to check and see what all i have to get done this weekend, but I think I will ride both sat., and sun. I'll post sometime tonight if I can go tomorrow.

Tyler

Posted by: Bobman

MIkey....I am deinitely down for them...I will take a box...I definitely am down for a box...I can bring the money to you Anyday after work

Bob

Hey StuckN1st, you do realize thats 80, 1/2 pound burgers, right?BR>
And he told me this morning that it's an even $40 per case (it was more like $37 last time)...Delivered to my house.

So, if that sounds like a deal to you guys....Current count is three cases.

Posted by: bearaf

Mike,

Count me in for a case! Those are some darn good burgersBR>
Aaron

Posted by: TyShark9

ok, not going to be able to ride on saturday. gotta cut my grass, then go cut my moms grass at her house. but will still ride on sunday.

Mike,
I'll take a case of the burgers. When will I be able to give you the money?

Tyler

We will try to make Sunday at the river. I'm going to get my LT500 from Brian's ATV (on consignment at his place, decided not to sell), so maybe I can bring it out to play.........

Sunday at the River....

Hey Yall <------ (Obligatory Oklahoma welcome)

I am not going to have time to ride Sunday, I don't want to go home, get quad, backtrack and then get to the river around 5:30 or later. How late is everyone planning on staying? I get off work at 4:00 and was thinking I might drive down and BS with the everyone (expecially the new folks whom I have yet to meet) and see how everone was doing and all kinds of interesting stuff like that (Basically I don't get out much). I could probably show up at teh river atoun 4:30-4:45. Will anyone still be there?

YEEEEEEEHAAAAAWW!!!!!!!

After a small amount of cursing and kicking (about 3 hours), Brent & I got the bolt off the hub of the ol' Grizzly. After that, it was about a 20 minute job to change out the half shaft.
Believe it or not, there is only a racer bearing that makes up the "CV Joint" (which I found out later I could have bought retail for $47.00 instead of $200.00 for the whole axle assembly) . I am back up and running and will be at the river around 11:00 to 11:30.

We plan to stay until about 6 - 7 at the latest. (if the beast will hold up that long)

I think I have another guy wanting to join forces with us who is planning on attending.

See everyone there!?!??? BR>

You all have fun. You guys think about me and Matt(HoundDog06). We have 60 acres of praire hay cut down and we have to get it baled today. Just when the river finally get down enough to ride, we have to bale hay. Oh well, more money for more toys.

Anybody up for a trip to Little Sahara in mid October. We have fall break October 21-24th. I haven't been since the first weekend on June and I need a sand fix.

Have fun today and we wish we were there instead of the hay field.

Sorry Guys,

The reason that I didn't make it is my youngest meathead got E.R. sick last night. We were up most of the night off & on changing sheets and cleaning up messes. As much as I would love to be there breaking another part off of my quad, I just can't leave him (and Mama) at home on a day like this..

Count me in double next time!! BR>

I think the river of sicness is drying up. He's quit messing up sheets and has been sleeping this evening FINALLY. He's also holding down liquids pretty well, so I think he'll be ready to ride by the weekend!!!

Sorry for standing everyone up & thanks for the good wishes!

Charlie,
I will post when it gets closer to the date. We usually try to stay in the north campground, it is closer to the big dunes and usually a little more family oriented except on the two big weekends.

I will post some pictures of our pickups and trailers later. I drive a 4 door F-350 4 wheel drive dark green P/U. Then it depends on what we take with us as to what trailer I drag. The rail always goes, so one of us has to pull the flat bed gooseneck.

I have a 14' side loader with no side rails. It has a 3 (5 gal.) gas can holder on front and an across the bed pickup toolbox on back. It will haul 3 quads. It is 6 months old. I have been using it, but am going to build an enclosed for myself. I want $900.
If this will work, let me know. I can build any style you like.

Cool.. Sounds like fun & thanks.

The way I got it figured, the little fellow was mad that we were going & leaving him at home so he made himself so sick that we couldn't go. He is up and running, laughing, playing, and talking back..... Almost his old self again.. Just sick for around 24 hours (still having trouble making solids) Probably too much info, but we will PLAN on going again.. Mama will be working & the oldest will be at his dad's, but me & Meathead should be there.

Yet another dumb question:

Both of my overflows just started leaking all of a sudden today on my carb. My quad all but shutdown & when it died, I smelled gas. I looked underneath , then took the left side plastic off, and saw two hoses leaking gas. The only way I got it home was to turn the gas shut off about 90% off. It ran alright to the house.

Any suggestions??

Sounds like some crud got into the needle and seat. shouldn't be to hard to fix. remove carb, float bowl, then the float. the needle should come with the float,. let some gas flow to wash out the crud. put needle and float back in and work the float with your finger to see if it shuts off the gas flow.

may be harder than I thought.

charlie

Posted by: trailride

Jason,

Like Charlie said its sand in your bowl. More than likely your float is sticking, causing it too flood . Pull your bowles and clean them . Make sure that the little white float is moving freely.

Is anyone planning on riding with us this sunday ?

Where is Rivermist?

Posted by: Bobman

RX Rider,

Rivermist is where highway 99 crosses the South Canadian River south of Seminole and north of Ada. There is a dirt turn off on the east side of the higway right there at the bridge where you can turn and go down under the bridge to park and unload.

What part of SE Oklahoma do you call home? We ride out of Rattan/Cloudy quite a bit.

Bob

Posted by: rxrider

About halfway between Atoka and Antlers at Farris

Posted by: Bobman

RX...

I know exactly where that is. I used to go Highway 3 a lot as a kid but now I go Turnpike all the way due to increased speed limits and bettter roads. We are trying to coordinate schedules here so that a lot of us can go down there and do some riding. Unfortunately, right now it looks as though I am the one who is holding up the process as my work schedule is currently still "up in the air" but as we get nearer a specific date I wll let you know.

Bob

Posted by: rxrider

I'd appreciate that. We hardly ever take the atv's very far to ride, but I'd sure like to do more of it.

Posted by: rxrider

I e-mailed the ATV Club e-mail address for information. Does that go to you?

The address Coacatvclub@aol.com does go to me (Bob) but as you will seeon learn EVERYONE in the club posts here on the forums so you will soon meet A LOT of really neet and interesting people even if I do say so myself.

These forums are the primary means of communication that we use to organize rides, give mechanical/technical tips and just exchange info in general. I sent you some mail (I believe it was you) regarding the club as a whole, we welcome all input so don't be afraid to post.

Hey Ty...Sorry man, it's too late. I gave him the info yesterday, and I will not be able to get in touch with him again until Saturday, at which point he will no longer be able to get them.

I really am sorry...Just ask my friends, they say I'm sorry all the time.

Posted by: TyShark9

thats cool Mike. I don't really need that much meat anyways thanks anyways.

on a different note. My parents just bought 50 acres in Dale. I am going to go ride there this wekend and see if it has any good places to ride. They said I can build an MX track anywhere I want So, I will start building that in a month or 2. I just gotta get some plans off the internet. My dad is in the construction business and has everything I will need to build it ... Blade, backhoe, etc. Just thought I would let you guys know.

Tyler

Posted by: Brink74868

Brent,

Meathead and I will HOPEFULLY (with no illnesses, etc.) be there Sunday. I am going to bring the Kodiak just in case ( the Grizzly is beginning to piss me off).

I removed the gas draining needle looking screw thingy and affixed 125 pounds of air pressure (thus blowing the hoses out) to the 2 leaking hoses. I reaffixed the gas draining needle looking screw thingy and turned the gas on. I rode a couple of miles with the gas all the way on & have had no further gas draining/flooding problems. Think it'll stay fixed?? Thus the spare Kodiak Sunday.

I may not make it until noon or a little after..Just got off work & need a couple of hour nap. Which direction are you guys going from the bridge? I'll just head either east or west til I find you.

Jason

Posted by: Brink74868

Brent,

Well, I tried. Me & the boys went about a mile east of the train tracks (about 11 miles from the bridge). I lost your trail near the private RV campground past the tracks. I know I was getting close when a group told me I was about a mile behind you. They said something about the "pretty good sized group taking a break". They also gave compliments on the "orange one". The boys started getting a little irritable so we packed it up.

Let me see what I can do for next Weekend...I am going to put in for it tomorrow, its possibly what they call a blackout date (Meaning no one can get off) If I can get off on Saturday...We can leave Friday after everyone gets off work and make it just as dark falls (Maybe a little after dark) and make camp then. Satuday morning we can get up and ride or fish or whatever. I will let you all know tomorrow if I can get that Saturday off. I know it is kind of short notice but I am going to find out and then I will post tomorrow afternoon. I may call Keith and have him post early Monday morning so everyone can know that much sooner.

Brent,

I had a report at about 1:00 that I was between 1 & 2 miles behind you. That would have put you before or near the railroad bridge drinking refreshments. I figured that I may have passed you around some weeds or something. No biggie, though. We'll maybe get to ride this weekend or next. I would like to try Muenster TX sometime in October. Gordon has already got my mouth watering for some good, childless, diversified riding that's not COMPLETELY sand related.

Who's up for a trip across the Red River next month???? I will probobly go either the weekend of the 9th or 23rd.. Any takers??

It was all over the news, they said that Sunday morning (possibly late sat night) there was a killing right there at or near Rivermist. Some punks from ECU and Some other punks and some punk football players from ECU got in a fight and there were some ECU players trying to run away after they hit some guys teenage daughter. Well the ECU players were riding 8 people in the back of a truck and the father of the teen age girl caught up and to them and rammed them...killed one of them, injured some more.

Well it is beginning to look like this weekend is out as most of the peope reporting back have schedule conflicts for these dates.

But to answer your question, yes you can park any sized motor home/RV there, mind you this is extremely remote, no RV Hookups so you would have to be totally self contained, not sure where the nearest dump station would be.

are the roads rough getting to the parking area? How about overhead hanging trees?

I can go the weekend of Oct. 9th. The 16th is not good. The 23rd is when Ronnie is going to LS. I could also go the 30th.

When does deer season start? May not be good riding with bullets in the air.

Charlie

Posted by: Bobman

Charlie,

the place we would LIKE to camp is right off the main road and the terrain is fine, the problem is....if that campsite is occupied, the roads to some of the others are not real good. But, you can always find somewhere preatty easily unless it is deer season and that is just one week in November (gun season)..the rest of the year even in Bow and Black powder its not too bad.

Bob,

Weekends of the 16th & 30th DO NOT work for yours truly.

Bob & everyone else,

I guess the Muenster idea is a flop??BR>

Jason...we like your sugggstions...we like you, you have just not submitted them through the proper "idea submission process." What you need to do is submit your requests in HARD COPY along with a $50 processing fee and that helps a great deal.

We can go to Meunster some time..

hey charlie,

primitive firearms season runs from saturday, 23rd - sunday, 31st.

you should be able to get a fair sized RV in there just about anywhere.

Jason
Why is Muenster a flop??? Let's plan a weekend and maybe some of the crew will tag along to keep you from sinking. There is ONE bad quick sand hole that no one will be able to get out of. If the river is up, there are several places to sink a machine. There is also good sand, good trails, rocks and wide open spaces.

Posted by: Brink74868

yo! G,

I am still thinking of the weekend of the 9th as a possibility. We'll plan a little harder as the time draws nearer. I have been talking to a couple of friends & it's looking better.
Of course, I'd need an experienced guide (the lord knows what happens when I'm alone riding in a strange place)BR>
If that looks like a good weekend for you, we can try to make it happen. Missy seems interested.

We're in! As far as expierience goes, just stay OFF the west bank of the creek gong into the Red River. The East side is pretty slick by the west side is PURE mud and slop. As we get closer, we can figure things out better.

Weekend status....

So far here are the reports for October weekend availability...remember these are dates that people CAN NOT go:

Jason.... 16th & 30th

Brent..... 9th

Charlie.... 16th

So that leaves only 2 weekends remaining..... 2nd and 30th

How does the weekend of the 2nd work for everyone?????

Remember the 30th is into Blackpowder season so the choice of prime camping spots may be limited.

Something to think about on the weekend of the 2nd--that is the Third Annual Antlers Deer Festival. I just watched a deal about it on the news. They're expecting around 15,000 people. I don't know if that would affect anything or not... On another note, some of ya'll (there's a good Okie word) may be interested in going. It's all about hunting and camping. Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's are supposed to be there. I've never been to one, but I plan on going this year.

Well i guess i should have said i cant go the 2nd either. I have a buddies B-day party to go to that saturday. This is getting hard to find a date for all of us to go .

Brent

Just read that they made an arrest in that hit and run out by Rivermist. Check out www.kten.com

Posted by: Bobman

Okay everyone....please input on this...

We have all seen the dates that people CAN NOT go.

Other factors to consider:

Weekend of the 2nd is the Deer Fest in Antlers (which is 29 miles roughly to our WSW)
This would not be a detrement to me as I do not think that would lead to increased camping in the area we are wanting to ride.

Weekend of the 23rd is OPENING DAY for blackpowder season, while this is not inherently dangerous per se, here are two things to consider. First, the best campsites will be occupied they usually start filtering in on Wednesday and Thursday of the week before. Second, I am not a hunter, I am not a tree hugger or anything like that but I know that many hunters get annoyed that while trying to hunt there are numerous ATV's buzzing the roads (Sometimes seems like that would work to their advantage by keeping the deer on the run instead of bedding down, but I am not an expert.) So we might want to also take that into consideration as well.

So everyone PLEASE register your votes here as to which of these two weekends would be the best in your opinion.

Bob,
I would just pick a date. There is no way that we all will be able to make it.

I would not mind if we had one on the 9th of Oct. A week off. Little Sahara with Ronnie on the 23rd. Then another SE OK ride on the 6th of Nov. With these three dates, I would think that most everyone could make at least one.

(It is going to get cold soon, Lets ride)charlie

Charlie has a valid point...what do you all think?

Bob

I agree with Charlie. Pick a date and the ones that can ride will ride. The rest will know we had fun. What happened to the last weekend of the month?

Charlie,
good point. If there were a national quad riding holiday, some of us would have to work it.

Andy,
As for the lake, not only no but "Hell No". James fought a good fight, but was extremely outnumbered. As you know, the nice lady that was leading the equestrians, happens to be married to the "shadow city manager". Needless to say, it's a no go. There are talks of trying to open something else up, as long as it's not at the lake. I am currently holding my breath.

Bob,

Call it in the air. Heads we ride, tails we have a meeting (and ride). I'll do my best to make it even if for only part of a day.

Why don't we all try to plan on the 9th of October. I know Charlie and Jason can make it. We only had one person who the 9th did work for and that was Brent. If there is any way we can all find some way to make it the 9th. So everyone try to figure out if the 9th will work for you. The 23rd would be too hard to find good campsites I am afraid.

So if at all possible lets try for the 9th...

Hey everyone, just found this place and it looks like a great club. What do I have to do to become a member? I live in mustang, ok and i ride an 85 250r 3 wheeler. You guys don't mind riding with 3 wheelers do ya? I am a member of the midwest trikers if any of you have heard of it. We are a group of trikers and some quads that get together and ride. Our little club goes from ok to kansas to missouri and even in arkansas and texas so far. Anyways, whens the next ride? We are getting together next weekend, oct. 2 and 3 to go to the beaver dunes for the drag races and motox races on the dunes. I can't wait to ride with you guys......Chris

Posted by: Jamesh921

Hey Chris - Welcome to Oklahoma's most "diverse" group of off-road enthusiats forum (Same to you Wish, sorry I didn't welcome you sooner).

There is currently NO membership fee to join the COATVClub (Central Oklahoma ATV Club), but you are welcome to make payments on any members ATV at any time if you like haha

All you have to do to join is (according to Brink) is sink your ATV in the South Canadian River at Purcell, Ok. Well, you don't "HAVE" to sink it, but Jason (Brink) did and now there has been talk of making him a charter member (j/k)

As I have heard Bobman mention in the past, there are no fees to join, just a desire to have fun and ride. So, if you meet those requirements - welcome aboard - to the board/forum and the club. And welcome to you too, Wish!!

Concerning Seminole:
Well guys, I told the City Council that "if you allow one user group (the equestrian riders) to use this undeveloped land and NOT allow another user group (the ATVers) to use it, you are admitting that you are biased and discrimitatory". And yes, that got printed in the newspaper.
I was accused by other City Council members of "namecalling" and "garnishing my support from outsiders". What they can't deny is that the MAJORITY of our supporters are from Seminole, and that they outnumbered the equestrian supporters by 3-1. Regardless, they voted to allow to expand the equestrain trails and NOT allow ATVs, even though it was the ATVers who originally requested the land.
So, I called on the citizens of Seminole to remember the council's "biased and discrimitatory" vote at our next City Council Member election which will be held in March of '05. We have high hopes of showing how our current City Council "does not respect nor honor the Democratic process". There's a WHOLE LOT more to this issue than this forum could allow for that I could tell you here, but rest assured that this issue is not dead.

On the contrary, my other City Council supporter and I are "vigoriously" seeking to purchase/lease some property that will far surpass anything we could have offered at Sportsman Lake through the City. We "thought" we had secured a deal for 1280 acres, but the guy was only using us to raise the lease he had with some hunters (jerk).
Not to despair though, we have several leads on other properties that we are currently in negotiations with and expect to have the ability to offer a new riding area soon (don't know how soon, but soon). Owning the trails ourselves is a good thing - it allows us flexability that City-owned trails would not. In other words, we can do any dang thing we want to make our riders happy and not have to worry about outside influences hampering our/your ambitions.

With that said, try to bear with us. We have already spent countless hours in research and negotations in an effort to bring you another place to ride and experience a state-of-the-art ATV facility. And we ain't going to stop until we find the perfect place.

Keep the faith,
James

hey chris,

heck yeah we'll ride with 3-wheelers. hell, we'll ride with lawn tractors and riding mowers. one guy rigged a seat on a roto-tiller and leads us in parades.

ok .. now to the important stuff ... stand in the middle of the room .. turn around quickly 3 times and say (in a kinda sing-song chant) oh i wanna be coac member .. that is what i truly wanna be .. and if i was a coac member ... everyone would go riding with me. voila .. youre a member.

our next ride looks like its coming up on the weekend of 10/9/04. i guess we'll be having a meeting/ride on the river at purcell on the 31st. come on down and ride with us. we only have 3 rules ... 1. new guy brings the beer, and we cant seem to remember the other 2.

see ya soon

Welcome to the ATV club of Oklahoma. James said there were no dues.... But at our LAST official meeting I was elected Treasurer for the group. ( The vote was 1-0 in favor) Please send $100 to me here in Lewisvile, Texas. CASH ONLY as we do not know you that well. This will cover your dues until I (we )need more funds.

NOT that you guys care, but we will be in Muenster Saturday Morning (9/25) about 8 AM. If you come go to the "second" gate and drive your pickup down to the River. We will be there most of the day. Park under the trees close to my Black Dodge Pickup
Have fun and be safe this weekend.

PS--CHRIS YOU will need a winch or tow rope as ONE of our mmbers tends to sink a lot. You will need to be able to pull him out.

Don't beleive all you hear on the killing at River Mist/Hwy99. 'The newspapers and TV stations are not telling everything about it. The alleged killer had been beat with a chain, his daughter has 22 stitches in her head and face from being beat with a chain, etc, etc,. It will all come out in court. I personally know the guy. He was a former school board member. He is not a racial person. Some of his best friends are black.

Gordon,

Missy had to report to Rochester, NY for the week. I am doing good now, for I am on days off. She should be back Sunday night / early Monday Morning. I would love to ride, but if I leave the house in the shape that it's in right now, I may get grounded from my quad FOREVER. I have some land here at home & have been making a round or two checking on wildlife and cows. It also is RIVER FREE so I am less likely to recreate the Titanic episode at home. BR>
I think me & the boys will be ok 'til she gets back. I hope she don't leave me like this again, for I may harm the lovely children on another 9 day stretch.

The job is going great but it's hard to readjust from nights to days every week. I kinda had sleepy time the other night & almost got in trouble, but the Sergeant seemed to understand (I think I heard him snore a little once). Other than that, I'm back to fighting crime full time and have seemed to keep myself pretty busy in the sleepy little town.

How is the rental thing going? Had any luck getting it off the ground?

Glad you made it ok with the kids! If I were YOU ,I would get Missy some flowers for tomorrow. That will show her you love her and you will get a FREE GET OUT of the Doghouse card.

The rental thing looks promising!! Kind of have to figure out a place to hang the shingle. Besides the insurance, there is a LOT of upkeep and maintanence. MORE that mine or yours, because everyone is so hard on them. I will need a good mechanic, and central location to make this work.

Bob,

let me say this.... Go with the rebates. I have owned a Chevy and a Ford, both newer than 2000's. I immensely enjoy(ed) them both. I went with a Cherokee before the Avalanche and found that I didn't like having something that small to pull a trailer with. I have never owned a Dodge, so I have no opinion. I will say this after owning the Avalanche: I WOULD NOT own one of the short bed trucks (i.e. Supercrew, Avalanche, Frontier, etc) if I wanted to take my quad without a trailer.
(I can haul the Kodiak with the GATE DOWN, but cannot even dream of hauling the Grizzly with gate down, up or off) Just a personal observation.

Never did hear back from the Major.. Sorry. :l

Trucks are like quads... EVERYONE OF THEM HAVE GOOD FEATURES... You just have to look at them and decide which one meets your needs the best. The next truck I get will be a Ford or Nissan. MY Dodge is the best truck I have ever had,BUT the crew cab in a Dodge is SMALL. I want a truck that can carry people comfortably in the back seat.
You might want to visit the TEXAS state fair between now and Oct 10th. They will have EVERY truck on the planet on display. It makes it easy to copmpare all of them at one time.

OkieRider and TD250R, I have a whole truck full of spare 250R parts I will bring today to the river for show and sell! I even have an almost complete '85 ATC 250R, spare gas tank, stock headlight, flywheel and stator, custom made exhaust pipe, stator covers, clutch covers, triple clamps, etc. Bring some cash but not a whole lot, I don't have room to store all of this stuff! We will be at the river about Noon or so today. Havinsomefun, we got the P700 up and running with a new battery. See you guys there!

Bob,

I have an old body style Ford and an 04 chevy i like them both the chevy is very comfortable to ride in and drive the ford is a work and rides as such (4x4 f-250) i have had 3 late model dodges all three weight classes the 1/2 ton rode good the others a little rougher but good for 3/4 and 1ton i dont like the dash in a'97 -'03 F-150 i always hit my knee on the way in and out of it. so there ya go never has an import so dont know about them. summary i really like the new chevy to travel in. and the ford to work.
ford or dodge is the better "truck" chevy is the more comfy "pickup".

Brink,
I really like my Avalanche, but I can't put my Rancher in it. The Rancher is too wide. Is that the problem you have with putting the Grizzly in the back? I didn't think a Rancher would be any wider than a Kodiak, but I guess so...

Shawna,

Don't get me wrong, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE our Avalanche. We always haul all or none, so trailering don't bother me.
I was figuring on Bob getting a truck so he wouldn't have to trailer, so I thought I'd warn him early. I know Bob has one of the monster quads, so I know it wouldn't fit the Avalanche or maybe not ANY of the shorter trucks. With the 27" tires on my Grizzly, I couldn't shut the gate on my full sized F-150.

In order to answer your question, Yes, the Grizzly is WAY TOO WIDE to fit in the bed. With the Kodiak, I have about 1/2" clearance on both sides and still have to leave the gate down.BR>
Bob, may I add one more thing??
Measure your quad from the end of the tires front to back & side to side before shopping for the truck. Also, you may want to measure INSIDE the wheel wells, especially if you're looking at some of the more narrow trucks (Rangers, Nissans, Toyota's). I have a friend with a ranger & a Polaris with Mud tires. The tires won't fit between the wheel wells, & he can't shut the tailgate.

Once again, only the ramblings of a mad man.

Aybody else fortunate enough to speak with Mr. Joe Sherriff at the river today? I was very displeased to hear what he had to say. I think that maybe McClain County has overstepped their boundaries and possibly went above the Burlington Railroad. Perhaps the railroad is tired of people crossing the tracks, etc. but why don't we see the authority coming from them instead of a Deputy making $800 a month (OOPS, did I say that out loud?). Anyways, enough rambling, had a good time riding today and meeting some more club members.

Posted by: Brink74868

Zilla,

What did Joe have to say?? I was under the impression that the river was public access. The road into the river isn't properly posted and I wonder if the railroad has the right to deny access since there is a road that is not fenced, gated, or marked. It is also (don't quote me on this, but I think the railroad right of way is also public access as well). Try to remember exactly what was said and I will do some research on it.

Thanks,

nah, i've always heard that the roads along the river belonged to the railroad. and enforcing the law isnt their job. thats how the sheriffs earn their $800/month. also the land that we cross on that road to the river ... thats private too, but they dont care.

you just have to be careful. and dont make waves. cant we all just get along?

Thanks "Ghost of Christmas Past" Andy,

Yes folks, I have somewhat of a past of uncovering things that are probably left alone. I will, however, be glad to do a little poking around and find out EXACTLY what can and can't be done. I promise to not piss anyone off with this one, but merely use some contacts to find out.

I did see someone on a700 polaris. I remembered it because it had an Oklahoma Plate on the rear. Don't remember a girl on a 600. I was parked by Zillarider and his Family.

Heywood,

I'm still waiting for Zilla to let me in on what exactly was said by the good deputy. I got the feeling that it wasn't good, but am curious as to what was implied.

Andy,

Did you get your pm?

Posted by: td250r

That was a good ride today, once I figured the 450 could swim. It was nice to finally meet some of the club, and hopefully go ride again sometime shortly. Im up for anything as long as its on a Sunday..........that sounds like a country song.

Zilla rider, I talked to you today at the river about some 250r parts, let me know what you figure out.

Posted by: ZillaRider02

Brink, the Sherriff stated that "we were tresspassing on Federal Property by crossing the railroad tracks". Also, he said that the next step would be to impound Vehicles and ATV's. I asked why the McClain County Sherriff's were out there and not someone from the RailRoad. His reply was that the railroad gave jurisdiction to the Sherriff's Dept..........I believe that some of the property under and around the bridge could be privately owned, however the rightway and other stuff is in the air. I hope you find out some good info. I don't want to lose the river as a riding area!

As for the 250R Parts PM me with what you need and I'll check my stash!!

TD, you have a PM

We used to hold races in the river back in the 70's. Ivan (Iron Man) Stewart pulled from Calif. one time to race. The races would start at around Norman and go to Hinton area and back. Around the mid 70's the sheriffs stopped the riding because the river belongs to the land owners on each side to the middle of the river. Thus making the river private property. I have not heard if the law has been changed. Hopefully the state will do something so we will have a place to ride. Since the city is on each side of the river at Purcell, maybe it is just the railroad right of way that is in question.

Met zillarider02 (Mike) and his family and also Tyler at the river today. Did not meet any others though. We need a way to identify each other so we can introduce ourselves. Bob, how about coming up with a club ATV flag.

another thing youre going to run into is deer season. a lot of us locals hunt that area of the river in the fall. primitive firearms season starts in a few weeks and the hunters dont want a bunch of people on ATV's down there scaring the deer. my stands are farther south than where we've been riding, but not that far. i dont care tho, i'd rather ride.

some of the local cops and sheriffs deputies hunt down there too. maybe his interests in getting you off the river were more personal than professional. who knows?

just be careful. i know the sheriff here .. and if he impounds your atv, youre not getting it back. he dont play.

i'll keep you posted if i hear anything

Charlie,

Interesting points. I am a cop and have an (@$$hole) uncle that owns some land on the river at Atwood, so I have heard a lot about this. I am currently under the impression from some Seminole County deputies that the river itself is technically a gray area that no one in law enforcement around these parts wants to touch with a 10 foot pole. The river is like the highway. Yes, the landowner "owns" the land, but it is also claimed as state property with state right of way, thus making it "public" for sake of argument. This is like landowners out of city limits actually own the property to the middle of the road. I will get clarification from the McClain County District Attorney hopefully tomorrow. I also plan to ask the Sheriff what is going on (in a nice way, Andy).

Someone has undoubtedly pissed the wrong people off & those people have obviously called the Sheriff. Is the Sheriff on the ballot this year in McClain County?

I also wonder if the actual Sheriff knows his Deputies are enforcing this "Law".

Also, if the area is not fenced or otherwise properly marked, then my guess would be that this so called "trespassing" would be a nightmare for the Sheriff & wonderful for the attorney for the person whose ATV's & vehicles were impounded ($$$CHA CHING$$$)
I have been there before and it appears to be a river access road a whole lot more than it looks like some sort of super secret federal rail access road.

jason,

its my understanding that its only federal if the property is actually owned by the railroad (interstate commerce act). and i know that the river is technically 'private property' but i also believe that the state has a sort of 'easement' on it for just these sorts of circumstances. if anyone knows a state game ranger, he or she could probably clarify this.

we have to keep clear heads about this. the last thing we need is to piss anyone off and make matters worse.

Hey Guys,
We found some land. It is located about 6 miles south of Seminole just off Hwy 99. It consists of 430 heavily wooded acres and has a river running through it.
We were looking for 600 acres or more, but land lots that size that fit the criteria for a trail system is hard to find around here. And when you do find it, it's already leased out to the deer hunters or someone is using it for other purposes. Trust me, we have been looking diligently for several weeks now.

Anyway, this land just happens to belong to a friend of ours who goes to a sister church of ours and he has assured us that WE get the first option on the land. Since we told him we wanted it he said he was taking it off the market and won't even show it to anyone else.

We just happen to stumble across this property (and the fact that he owns it) a few weeks ago and tried to contact him but he and his wife were out of town on vacation. They just got back and we went and looked at it today. It's not as hilly as we'd like it to be, but it's a start and it'll work. We plan on adjacent land aquasitions in the future that will offer a more diverse terrain, but this land does offer some challenging riding areas. And I KNOW you river-runners will like it.

Anyway, we're meeting with the banker (again) on Tuesday. Don't know for sure how long it will take to get the trails open once we close on the land, but I'm projecting not more than a month. Course, it'll probably take about a month to close on it, so we're looking at about two months away. Is this cool or what? I'm as giddy as a school girl - been walking around with a big cheezy grin on my face all evening.

The Park will be open to ATVs (3 and 4 wheeled), motorcycles, equestrians, BMXers and hikers. It will also offer primitive camping in the beginning, but soon we will ad improved campsites with full RV hook-ups. Eventually, we'll even have a bath house, bike wash fuel station, cabins and even a small quick-stop like store that sells groceries, camping gear and maybe even ATV/motorcycle parts. We may even offer ATV rental too (Gordon?).

If you guys have any questions about it, fire away. I'll tell ya all you wanna know.

James

Posted by: Jamesh921

And by the way, all Central Oklahoma ATV Club members will receive a discount price into the park for supporting us on the Sportsman Lake Trails Project.

Also, I think I've decided to buy the Polaris 600 but now I need help with which Motorcycle to purchase. We decided that we needed one of each since the motorcycle can go many places an ATV can't. So, if you have any suggestions, I'm all ears.

Jason,
You're right on track. There is an access road just north of the Little River bridge on the west side that leads into the property. This road is extremely narrow and will need ALOT of work to allow RVs access. However, the land owner tells us that this road was actually once a county road that was closed illegally. The small town of Bowlegs (which is where the land is located) was losing business because this road led straight across country to the town of Maud, so it was illegally closed to stop traffic. If that's true (and I'm assuming it is because the landowner wouldn't lie to me), then we may be able to get the County to re-open and build us a new road, especially if re-opening it will generate a viable economic impact.

And yes, this is a PRIVATE venture between David H. and I which means there will be absolutely no restrictions or interference from the City.

Bob , im on for the 9th . We going to stay an extra day ?

Everyone,

I just spoke to Bill at the Sheriff's office. He told me that their office just got a couple of calls this weekend regarding drunk & disorderly folks on the river. Bill also told me that they respond rather consistantly to a variety of calls including 2 rapes recently. During the conversation, he told me that Burlington has closed access to all of their sites in the state except for the Purcell location. He tells me that Burlington has agreed to back the Sheriff's Department on any trespassing tickets that they may write, but they have agreed to limit them to "problem people". Bill welcomed me (us) to use the river at our leisure, but "watch the drinking". I guess that drunk people have topped the list for the conceived problems there. I was reminded of the state's public intoxication statute (which I seem to be quite familiar with, as it makes up about 40% of all arrests that I make). He also told me that the impoundment issue is for your protection. If you're arrested, you can decline having your quad towed, if you don't mind leaving it there until you bond out. He said they will not place any holds on the quad, but you have to pay for the towing & storage fees if you want it back from the wrecker company. All in all, HE didn't seem to be unreasonable. I (nor he) was there this weekend, but it seems like there were some problem people there and Zilla may have just ran across the deputy while he was already in a bad mood.

He asked me to stress to everyone that we, as responsible riders who don't cause problems, are not only allowed, but welcomed, to enjoy the river and access from Burlington. Lets just remember to tread lightly and clean up after ourselves & enjoy the river for years to come!

I also spoke to a Game Warden this morning who had something very interesting to say. He stated that the landowner owns the land under the water and anytime you are in a boat and tie off, get out, or drag bottom, you are trespassing. That's a different opinion from Bill the deputy. He said that anyone is free to use the river from bank to bank, statewide, but getting TO the river is where the trespassing problem occours.

I'm going to hold off talking to the D.A. until things worsen. There's no real need as of yet to risk offending anyone as long as things remain smooth. Out of sight is out of mind.

Brent, I can stay the extra day. I am not sure about Keith, he says he will have to check his schedule.

Brent, Will Lonnie and Shane be coming as well?

We should have a good time. I think Mike and Aaron are going...may be wrong but I think they are...Mike & Aaron let me know.

Brent...if we both ride in my Blazer, we will need to put some gear on the trailer (as I tend to take everything including the sink).

Get back to me on who all is going...
