Have you checked the ground under your dash ? Or even at the taillights? I have seen many a chevy lose ground under the dash at the "cluster" ground i like to call it. Does your blazer have a lift ?
Posted by: nukeim
Yes, I've checked it, although there are probably 14 more that I can't see.
No, no lift.

P.S. I'll be there around noon or 1:00, and I'll bring some chips and whatever else you guys want me to bring.
Mike,
Have you checked your Fuse box. Not just the fuse, but sometimes the slot that the fuse slides into gets bent and can't make a connection. that is what happened in my work truck ('88 Chevy) and in my first truck ('89 Chevy). But they might have fixed that problem before '92 ...
By the way, the way I fixed it was ... I had to bend each side of the slot to make the opening smaller, then wedge the fuse in there. Might work for you. Hope I helped.
Also, you might want to take off the tail lights and check the wires to make sure that they are still connected good.

Man I hate missing parties!
Posted by: nukeim
Thanks guys, I have checked the fuses, connections, grounds, and even replaced the little doohicky (technical term for the switching unit on the brake pedal) that sends the signal.
All the lights work. Blinkers, hazards, running lights, backups....They just aren't getting a signal from the brake pedal somehow.
Back to the drawing board.
Posted by: trailride
Mike
Try to reground the doohicky/brakeswitch . The black wire that comes off of it. All that does is give it ground when you depress it.

Hi Guys,
There are some guys here in central Oklahoma (Seminole - about 60 miles east of OKC) who are trying to form an ATV club and we need your help.
We are trying to organize in order to approach our City Council and ask that they approve ATV trails at our local city lake (Sportsman Lake). It would be much appreciated if we could unite with other ATV adventurists/clubs/riders in our state and form an alliance. As you well know, there is power in numbers, and we need all the support you guys can provide if we are going to get this approved by the council.
Obviously, this would be another great place for everyone to ride, camp and rally. Would you be willing to help by attending a meeting in Seminole to organize the ATVers from here and around the state?
Please email me at harmony@okplus.com
We need all the support we can get.

I hope this rain stops , and lets the river go down. Im not about to go ride a flooded river. Last time it rained like this and the river flooded to 5 feet and took it 6 days to return to riding conditions. Aslong as we dont get any more substantial rain we should be fine.
Kieth
If you can would you post saturday night what the river looks like, and if its worth going
Brent

yeah
i can do that

I am gonna be SERIOUSLY bummed if we get rained out.

Keith,
Thanks for the invite. Where will you be starting your ride from and how will I know you? Shoot me an email at harmony@okplus.com or call me on my cell 405-245-3553. I seriously might show up.
James
Posted by: nukeim
I'm not Keith, but I'll answer your question.
We usually park just north of the bridge, but some people just park by the train station and ride their quad down to the river. Do NOT park at the train station.
Most of us park right on the river bottom in a loose group of trucks and quads, and just ride from there.
You can pretty much ride north, or ride south....That's about it. If the river is down far enough, you could probably drive across the state if you had the gas. BR>
Sometimes we chase each other around in groups, and sometimes a few of us go off in groups of two or three.
It's pretty informal, we just go with the flow.
Posted by: TyShark9
It's been raining pretty much all day here in Norman... does anyone know if the river is going to be too high? Anyone have any ideas where we can ride if it is too high? Thanks.
Tyler
Posted by: trailride
Well guy's according to the USGS the river has seen alot of rain the past few days. Its up to 6 feet now. So that means no river for brent this weekend. But on the upside , I do plan to ride at prague lake monday. It should be dry enough for the sport guy's and muddy enough for us 4x4 guy's. Give me shout if you want to join.
Bob , It dont look like we will camp down at the river now. Sure we could camp, but the river wont let us go very far. You could camp in my back yard if ya like You still need to try out that new quad in four wheel drive.
Brent
Posted by: Bobman
Well this sucks....Maybe we should just scrap our plans altogether. I am not a fan of going to the river if you can not ride far. As for Prague I am NOT a mud fan. I hate cleaning my quad and cleaning my truck and cleaning my clothes and all kind of stuff. I also told James (the guy from Seminole) that we would be down there (Prior to reading Brents message). I am not sure what I am going to do. It all has to do with what everyone else does. Keith is supposed to go do a river check here in a few minutes but the dude on the news just said that more rain is coming tonight. Let me ask you guys this....and answer accordingly..What would you all think if we just got together for a meeting on the 5th so that we could meet with James. Lonnie and Brent would probably like to see trails at Seminole open. You guys let me know what you think. We could possibly meet him at the Prague trail system or somewhere else. Any ideas or alternatives?? Anyone? Please reply and stuff....notice that eloquence...please reply and stuff...I love using hooked on fonix.
Bob
Posted by: trailride
We could meet him at prague bob. Its even closer for him than purcell.
And Bob, Why buy a 4x4 if you dont want to get it muddy.
Posted by: Heywood
guys,
i just checked the river and its not that bad. its up a little (no way its 6 feet) and muddy as hell but its ok. i think it should be fine by monday. the trails along side the river are high and dry. ok .. i lied about the 'dry' but they are passable.
i'll keep you posted
keith
Posted by: trailride
Keith
I will still wait for your report on the river saturday . If you say " come to the river " we shall.
Lets just play it by ear for the next few days and see what happens. This " 6 feet " im talking about is the gauge at calvin. Down stream from you, so its very possible it may be alot deeper at calvin than at purcell. I really want to camp and ride . So keep me posted on the river. Id rather ride there than at prague.
Brent
Posted by: Jamesh921
Hey Guys,
I appretiate the offer to help us out down here in Seminole. We sure can use it.
Whether you decide to ride at the river or at Prague is fine with me, just let me know where you're gonna be and I'll be there - for sure.
If we can pull this off and get trails at Seminole, we'll have a Grand Opening Party and all you guys will be invited. I can even pull some strings so's you guys can ride and camp for free during the Grand Opening weekend. (I have some clout here in Seminole that I ain't told you about yet, but I will when we meet in person).
Anyway, just let me know where you'll be riding, what time to meet you, and I'll be there.

D@mnit! I'm riding on Monday, whether mother nature likes it or not! Where I ride remains to be seen I guess.
I've got 16 lbs of hamburger that needs buns, and mouths. Then there is all the beer......mmmmm....sweet, sweet beer....But I digress.
If those trails down the side of the river are open, they go quite a ways, and are enought to keep me occupied for several hours.
Posted by: trailride
We will ride this weekend mike. I dont remember much of the trails at the river, but we could probably get by. I guess thier will be plenty of water to knee board on
Brent

You bringing a kneeboard Brent?
Oh, and who all is camping out? Are you staying the night of the 4th? Or the night of the 5th?

Mike, how much do we owe you for the meat?
Brent

Mike,
I am camping out the night of the 4th. I am 90% sure that Brent will camp out that night as well.
I can bring the following items to the event:
Plates
Plasitic Silverware (Mike please do not point out that there is no such thing as plastic silver)
Buns for the meat Mike Brings
Ketchup, Mustard, Relish
Sliced Cheese
Paper Towels
If anything else is requested let me know.
Tyler said he wanted to bring chips
Bob
Posted by: nukeim
You guys are aware that I'm not going to be there until the 5th right?
Brent, you guys don't owe me anything for the meat...As long as somebody brings buns, and I get a burger or two.
I was also considering bringing my big (gas) grill, since I'll have extra room on the trailer...That is, if I can find time to clean those d@mn cast iron burners. Anybody think that's a good idea? Yes? No? Gas sucks?
Posted by: trailride
Mike,
We will have a grill , so no need for you to bring yours.
Brent
Posted by: Bobman
Mike....yeah I knew you weren't going to be ther until the 5th.
Are you sure you got the meat covered??? I have 16 buns, and Brent said he was bringing some buns. I also got 16 hot dogs (but only 8 buns).
I got all of the other stuff listed above. I have the condiments covered and all of the plates/plasticware/paper towels covered.
Tyler we can designate you the CHIP MAN.... Between all of us we can "get 'er done"
Let me know if we need anything else.
Bob....anyone want to get an extra pack of buns???

ummm ... how far is it to prague?
guys, the river is up but not too bad. you cant cross it right now, but it isnt wall to wall water either. if we dont get any more rainup north, we'll probably be ok. it has 2 full days to drain and that should be enough. i think we'll get to ride monday. i'll call bob tomorrow when i pull out and let him know if its still rising or starting to fall.
pray for drought,
keith
Posted by: trailride
Well i hope we figure it out soon. I have a whole group from here i have told were going to prague then the river then prague the now the river.
I watched it go up a foot today. We wont have anymore rain in the north , but its a very slim chance it will go down by monday.
Keith just post tomorrow night and we can decide then.

Guys--
I just joined and was reading your posts about the 4th. Why not CROSS the Red River and ride at Meunster. We were there last week and the Red River was down quite a bit. It seems all this rain has missed them. I think 3 or 4 of us are going Monday. I know for sure my wife and I will be there. Just a thought.
See attached link for you to view about the Red River Trails.

Just talked to Keith and he said that the river looked pretty decent when he pulled out to go to Murray this morning. I think that Monday it should be okay. Thise of us who arrive Sunday evening may not have a lot of crossings but I think that by Monday it will be okay. I know that I have seen it drop pretty quickly in one week. I think we should be okay. I really think it will be okay (based upon Keith's report of 4:00 PM 07/03/2004).

Do you have any info on the river level at Purcell as of Saturday evening? Any idea how deep the crossings are? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I didn't go up by there yesterday, but the day before it was up pretty good. Sand is pretty limited, mostly water. Can't say how deep the crossings are, but probably deep enough! Maybe we will meet up with you guys on Monday.

Guys,
Things are looking up for the Seminole trails. We met with Bob, Brent, Shane, Tyler, Lonnie and a host of other ATV enthusiasts on Monday and were blown away by their committment to help us get ATV trails down here in Seminole. You guys are greatly appreciated and we're looking forward to your aid in making Seminole's trails some of the best in the state. With the Central Ok ATV club's help, Seminole will soon be the most traveled trails around.
I just want to say that all the guys we met with Monday were willing to do whatever it takes to help us out - I just wish everyone had their enthusiasm. Thanks for the help guys!!!

I will be going to Buena Vista, Colorado for a few weeks. If anyone gets up that way, give me a call and we will ride some mountain roads. A friend went up over the 4th of July weekend and said all the passes were not yet open. He said it was the most snow he had seen this late in a few years. I will be there until Aug. 16th so all the passes should be open before I leave. Will take some pictures and share them when I return.
If anyone gets up there, give me a call on my cell 405-620-4166.

Tent, Schment...dod Daniel Boone sleep in a tent?
Posted by: Bobman
We don't need no stinking tents
Posted by: Bluegoose
Guys some things to think about.
Fuel, food, drinks, tents and etc. will have to be carried with you. There isn't any gas stations on the river.
There is a way off the river at Calvin and then a short ride (1/2 mile or so) into town and there is a gas station/convenience store. We haven't had any trouble from the local cop, for riding into town. But then we weren't wheeling and driving crazy either.
Another thing to think about when planning. Sport quads can't carry much is anything and they use more fuel than utility quads.
A trip from Ada/Rivermist to Lake Eufaula is 90+ miles down the river (that is one way). The boys and myself along with some other people make that trip every year. You will need fuel and refresh you ice chests at Calvin (hwy 75) going and coming.
We always have two or three of our wives meet us there to refuel us and bring and pick up our tents.
It will take some planning. You will want to take a day off after the trip. I'm exhausted for a couple of days after the trip. Good luck.

I have to work Saturday.
Posted by: TyShark9
Well, This is a very sad day for me ... I have put my Quad in the Boat, Bike and RV trader. I am having a lot of trouble with my work truck, and I need to sell the quad so I can buy a new truck. I almost had enough saved for a new truck, but wasn't quite there. I also hate financing cause banks suck, so I will be using cash. But I will be buying another quad in about 8 months or so if business keeps going good. I would be able to buy one sooner, but I am going to be taking training courses in Cali. to help me become a stuntman that's my life dream if your wondering. This weekend I am busy moving into our new house, but next weekend I will ride ... It will probably be my last ride for a while Just wanted to let everyone know that it has been great meeting all of you, and i have had a hell of a lot of fun riding with all of you.

But I will be getting a quad again, someday. If you guys have any other cookouts give let me know.... I like burgers me and my buddies can come out a swim or something .. and I can dream of riding haha I'll talk to you guys later. and I still might be able to ride next weekend, if I haven't sold my quad by then.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
The time has come for us to have another meeting. We have a few items and issues to go over. As always I would like everyone's input as to when and where the meeting should be. So ladies and gentlemen please advise when and where you would like to have the meeting.

So I vote for the Broken Spoke, or on the river again. (I still have the other 12 lbs of meat.) Pretty much any day is good for me.

Sorry i havent posted in a while guys, i got VERY sick. But im on my way out of it now. I vote we hold meetings/rides during the summer months. I was thinking of going to the river sunday , but over my way off 99. It would be just a river ride, since the landowner shut the trails off, but i dont go to the river to ride trails unless its flooded. I know of atleast 7 of us going to the river sunday , so if you would like to join us down here give me a shout.

Betty and Bea preferably, but any combo would work.
As for Hawk....
I have my means of persuasion. He wouldn't pose a problem.
That, and I'll still have the albino.

Kind of short notice.....
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Would anyone like to have the meeting this Saturday evening? Keith was telling me that the weather is supposed to be cool Saturday so I think this may be an opportunit too good to pass up. I know this is really short notice so if anyone would rather choose a different day that is certainly understandable. So let me know what you all think. The river would be an okay meeting place as far as I am concerned. We could meet at the parking area on the river where we cooked out last time. SO LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU ALL THINK.

Meeting Time Set???
Ladies and Gentlemen:
I realize that it was indeed too short notice for a meeting this Saturday. Would anyone be opposed to having the meeting Saturday, July 31, 2004? I know Brent and Phil have scheduling conflicts and I believe that others may as well. Therefore, I suggest that we try and meet Saturday, July 31, 2004. This gives everyone a little over a week to see what they need to rearrange as far as schedules go. So...if everyone is agreed, we could meet Satirday July 31 at approximately 6:30 PM at the northern parking area on the river.
For those of you who may not know where this area is pelase feel free to contact me via E-mail and I will send you detailed driving directions. So once again please let me know what you all think.

Hey Brent, the river is up pretty high.
You'll probably do a lot better with that monster you ride though.
Posted by: Jamesh921
Guys,
I posted this over in the "Polls" thread, but thought I would post it here to since it would directly affect most of the guys in this thread.
As you probably know, we're trying to get some new trails approved in Seminole, so let me know what you guys would like to see at the trailhead.
What ammenties do you feel are the most important for a trailhead to offer - ie... bike wash, improved campsites, bathhouse, etc...?
Also, if you had to drive 2 hours to ride trails, what would be the minimum amount of acres you would drive that far for? 200, 300, 600, etc.. ????
Thanks for your input,
James
Posted by: Bobman
James.....
I can sum my answer up in two words...Brass Pole...'nuff said!!!
Okay now for the real answer. I think a bike wash would be the best thing since sliced bread as would changing area/showers. Pull through parking spaces are great for those with trailers. Another thing that might be of use would be park benches around fire rings so that folks can sit and BS a while after the ride. As for the drive time vs acreage idea, most ATV riders quantify a trail system by mileage of trails as opposed to acreage because most of the time we are not allowed off the trails.
Bob
Posted by: Heywood
any decent camping area will have showers. fire rings w/ benches would be cool as all get out. if i had to choose between those and a bike wash ... i'd go with the fire places. i like the idea of having a place to sit and talk for awhile before hitting the road home. i usually wait til the next day to wash my scooter anyway.
thats just my $2 worth. now send me a check
Posted by: nukeim
All that would be nice....But in reality, all I need is a place to park.
Oh, and I would definately sacrifice amenities for more trails.
Posted by: Jamesh921
Mike,
I'm glad you feel that way because, to start out with, that's probably all we'll have is trails. Course, we'll have a parking area and a community fire ring is a must.
Bob,
I didn't even think of pull-through parking spaces/campsites. We'll definately need those. Glad you brought that to my attention.
Heywood,
There are showers currently available at the main camping area (Cove 3), but just starting out we won't have any at the ATV trailhead (Cove 7). Later, hopefully with the help of the city, grants or revenue generated from the trails, we'll have "all" the ammenities you guys want. I like to think ahead and plan for future improvements, but first we gotta get the trails APPROVED!! Once the trails start generating some revenue, we can convince the City Council that the added ammenities are needed.
Also, I'm actively looking at purchasing some land myself and opening trails on my own. During my research on this project I've noticed the obvious need for more trails and the potential they can provide. As a matter of fact, I'm waiting on a call right now from a realtor.
Do you guys like sand, mud, hills or "?" best for riding.
James
PS Bob, if you want a "brass pole", you gotta provide it yourself - along with the ammenities that go along with it.

i dont like getting dirty .. so i stay outta the mud
i like plain old hills and trails
Posted by: Bobman
I would have to say that I like trails but I am not a mud fan either. Wooded trails with hills are the best, as are river crossings.

Hey guy's the river was down. The furthest down ive seen it since memorial day. It was a little cold, but it was a nice ride. Doing it again sunday if anyone wants to join in. I cant make the meeting , but can ride sunday.
Brent

Keith and I will be bringing firewood etc and will probably just stay on the river for a while after the meeting and shot the BS (Hard to believe from Keith and I). Eveyone is invited to stick around and just hang out/ride, BS etc. We look forward to seeing you all and hope that as many as possible attend.

And Brent, the river must have gone down overnight because I had great time on Saturday with Marks quad after he didn't quite make it across the river. Water over the tank and bars was a little deep for him.

Hey guys, just fyi my brother in law is selling a 98 kawasaki jetski 1100 zxi waverunner if anyone is interested. Its a two seater with maybe 20 tanks of gas ever run throught it. (120 hp 60-70mph) It was in the water once last summer, twice the summer before and sat in the garage for two years prior to that. If I had some money I would buy it, he decided to get married and needs some $$$.

Hey guys,
I'll be attending the meeting on Saturday, and, with the clubs approval, I'll update everyone on the progress for the Seminole trails project. I haven't formally asked for permission to speak yet, so now's as good a time as any. How bout it, Bob and company? Would it be OK to update everyone on the proposed new trails in Seminole at this Saturdays meeting?

Seminole, OK
Dear Mayor Choate:
I would like to voice my support for the proposed ATV and Motorcycle Off-Road Riding Area at Seminole, OK. If it&39;s a quality facility with reasonable rates I would be using it once or twice a month. Each time I came I would spend money for lodging, meals, etc. in your town. Just to give you an example I have put together a weekend ride with 10 Oklahoma City Residents that will be going to an off road facility in Texas this weekend. We will all be pumping cash into the local town&39;s economy. We would rather see that money kept here in Oklahoma. With the eminent closing of the established riding area in Oklahoma City there will be a large number of off-road participants looking for a new area to ride. Our club the Oklahoma Dirt Riders has met with the Oklahoma City council to try and show them what a valuable source of revenue they are throwing away by closing the riding area. With The average cost of a Dirt bike or ATV in the six thousand dollar range, people will pay to have a quality place to ride them. We as a club here in Oklahoma City tried to show the City Council how many out of state riders came every weekend to use our facility. Which I might add was maintained by volunteers at no cost to the city. Please don&39;t miss an opportunity to boost your City&39;s revenue and to create something that families will enjoy for years to come.
Sincerely,
Barry T. Hawley

Can James Speak at the Meeting????
Hmmmmmm...
Of course you can speak at the meeting. I am not sure how many others will be there. Brent and his family will not be there so there may not be a large crowd but I am pretty sure that Mike and Aaron and Keith will be there. I will be there as well (not that that really matters much). I am hoping that some of our members who have not been to meetings in the past (or have only been to one meeting) will be there. I sent out an additional E-mail to some of the members described above. Keith said that he knew of a potential new member would would possibly be coming to join us. Keith reiterate the point to him that we need him to come to this meeting.
Also, I will soon be submitting my letter to you as well outlining my interest in the proposed trail facility.

NEW DEVELOPMENT on the Sportsman Lake Trails Project 7/30/04
I met with the city Public Works Director and our Consumer Services Director Friday 7/30/04 to go over our proposal and ask for their input.
While I was there, the President of our local Equestrian Riders Club and our Mayor came in (not knowing I was there) and handed the Public Works Director a binder full of about 150 letters stating that the Equestrian Riders "now want to obtain" the proposed ATV area and use it to expand their existing horse trails. They want to take the only available land left at the lake and designate it as equestrian trials ONLY!! They already have about 950 acres of land for their trails, and now they want the land we are asking for (about 450 acres) to expand their equestrian trail system. So, now our goals have changed from "asking" for some previously unused property for ATV trails, to having to "fight the equestrian riders for it".
You see, the equestrian riders have been against this proposal all along. This wasn't mentioned before because we were trying to be respectful and not make this into an "us against them" issue. Well, now they've forced us to take off the kid gloves and get serious. We hope you'll get serious with us. Keep those letters coming!!! And ask your friends to get involved and write a letter too. We need every supporter we can get.
If you would like to CALL our Mayor and voice your concerns, here is his number (405) 382-2280. Ask for Mayor Billy Choate.
And here is the number to City Hall (405) 382-4330. Ask for Steve Saxon (City Manager).
Thank you for your support, and we thank those who have already emailed us their letter. Together, we WILL WIN on this issue.
Sincerely,
James Hale

IT'S OFFICIAL
The "New Development" has been confirmed. Here's the latest, but it ain't over yet. Be sure to read the end of this update.
It's CRUNCH TIME !!!
Yep, it&39;s the first CRUNCH TIME for the Sportsman Trails Project in Seminole, Oklahoma (see previous post for more info).
I&39;ve learned today that TOMORROW, Tuesday 8/03/04 the Seminole Lake Board will be voting on whether to approve, disapprove or table the expansion of the existing EQUESTRIAN Trail system.
I don&39;t have a problem with the equestrian riders expanding their trails, EXCEPT for the fact that they are wanting to expand those equestrian trails INTO THE SAME AREA that we have proposed the ATV trails. Which, if they get their way, will mean NO ATV TRAILS AT ALL!!!
I had the opportunity to view a portion of their proposal, which consisted mostly of support letters from equestrian enthusiasts, associations and organizations. Plus, they have some petition letters that, we have found, some have been “altered”. And yes, we&39;ll be showing how these documents were FORGED at tomorrow&39;s meeting. But, that doesn&39;t mean that a few forgeries will keep the Lake Board from approving their trails.
Nope, the only thing that will keep the Lake Board from approving the equestrian trails is if we can show there are MORE supporters of the ATV trails. Then, and only then, will we be able to get the expansion of the equestrian trails tabled so that the ATVers have the same opportunity to present their proposal as well.
IF WE FAIL TO SHOW SUPERIOR SUPPORT, WE CAN FORGET ABOUT ATV TRAILS IN SEMINOLE FOREVER!!
I&39;ve asked you guys to email me your support letters, and many of you have sent them, BUT IT AIN&39;T ENOUGH!! We need more letters.
The Lake Board meeting will be held on Tuesday 8/03/04 at 4:00 pm. I&39;ll be there, fighting for the ATV trails, but I need YOUR ammunition to fight with.
“ If you haven&39;t already emailed me your support letter, do it NOW please.” We have no more time to waste. Here&39;s how:
Email me your support letter to harmony@okplus.com
Address it to:
Mayor Billy Choate
401 N. Main
Seminole, Ok.
Once I receive your email, I&39;ll print it out and present it to the Lake Board Tuesday.
If you would rather voice your concern over the phone, you can call the Mayor at (405) 382-2280
Or call City Hall at (405) 382-4330 and ask to speak to the City Manager, Steve Saxon.
Or,
You can do both.
Whatever you do, DO SOMETHING to support your right to ride. If you don&39;t, it may be your trail that comes under fire next time.
To those who are getting petitions signed, please fax them back to my office no later than 3:00 pm CST at (405) 382-3202.
If some of you would like a copy of the petition, email me and I&39;ll get you one immediately – I&39;ll be on the Internet most of the night tonight working on this project. If I don&39;t get it to you tonight, I&39;ll get it to you the first thing in the morning.
This is important, guys and it affects us all either directly or indirectly, so please take the time to get your support letter/email to me ASAP.
It&39;s up to you now,
James
OK, so now you know the latest info, but like I said, it ain't over yet.
The Lake Board has 3 options;
1) Approve the proposal
2) Unapprove the proposal
3) "Table" the discussion for further research and vote on it at a later time.
I'm shooting for #3.
I'll be in the meeting tomorrow and will be lobbying that the Lake Board "table" this vote for one month until the ATVers have the "fair" opportunity to submit their proposal. I believe I can get this vote postponed, but we are now under a major "Crunch Timeframe".
We have to get organized within the next 30 days. ALL petitions must be filled out and submitted by the first Monday of September and every support letter must be emailed by the same date (sooner would be better since I'll be busier the closer this date gets).
The next Lake Board meeting will be held on the first Tuesday of September and it would be GREAT if the COACATV Club could send a representative or two to attend that meeting. Heck, I know it's short notice, but it would be even GREATER if someone could attend tomorrow's meeting, but I know this is probably too much to ask.
Anyway, IF the Lake Board approves the equestrian's proposal doesn't mean that it's over - it still has to have the approval of the City Council, which I am a member of. I have at least 2 other supporters on the City Council and I firmly believe that we can get this tabled until next month's council meeting (if necessary).
OK guys, it's time for "no holds barred". I would have liked to take a little more time on this project to get more organized, but we have been forced into a dogfight. Let's get it done.
James
Posted by: trailride
Looks like alot has happened since ive been gone.
James, I cant make this months meeting , but i will be there for the September meeting. I just started !st shift here at work, only to find out that my boss just fired the 3rd shift guy, so guess what, I am now on third shift until further notice. So all my posts will be late at night for a while.
Bob how was the meeting. Sounds as if we need another very soon. What do you guys think ?
Brent
Posted by: Jamesh921
Well, I'm the guy on the lowest part of the totum pole here, which means that my opinions don't really carry much consideration.
However, (and this is just a suggestion) if you want a higher attendance at your club meetings, they should be held somewhere that is "easily" accessible to other members and potential members.
I would "suggest" that your club meetings be held somewhere in town where folks could eat and drink during the meeting. Members and potential members are more apt to attend a meeting that is "easily accessible".
Course, this is just my "opinion" , so if what you're doing is working for you, keep it up and don't bother listening to me.
James
Posted by: trailride
James,
We used to have the meeting at the Broken Spoke cafe, but when it warmed up a bit , we started having the meetings at the river so we could ride. When it gets cold again we will move back to the Spoke.
Brent
Posted by: Jamesh921
OK, well that's cool. Like I said my "opinion" doesn't mean much - it was just a suggestion.
But I do appreciate the clarification (I learn somethin' new everyday - when I'm payin' attention) hehe.
However, if you'll hold your next meeting at the Broken Spoke, I'll buy everyone a round of ? (coke, pepsi, beer or whatever they drink). Now, who can turn down a free round? Plus, it's easier for me to find bein' an out-of-towner and all. BR>
I hope you know I'm just kiddin' around here - except for the part about buying everyone a round - I meant that!! BR>

Well guys, the Lake Board has approved (by ONE vote) opening the trails at Sportsman Lake, but they approved to open the trails to the EQUESTRIAN RIDERS, hikers and bicyclists, but NOT the ATV riders. BUT, it&39;s not over yet.
The Lake Board can only “recommend” to the City Council that the trails be opened to the equestrian riders and exclude the ATVs. They have no actual power to make decisions. Ultimately, the “City Council” will make the final decision.
If you&39;re within driving distance, I strongly urge you to attend the City Council meeting which will be held on Tuesday, August 10th at 6:30 pm in the Seminole Public Library located at 424 N. Main in Seminole.
If you can&39;t make the meeting, then I urge you to call our Mayor, City Manager and City Councilmen. If you can, call EVERY one of them. If they get swamped with phone calls supporting the ATV trails, it is more likely they&39;ll at least make the trails multi-use trails that would allow ATVs.
Even if you can make the meeting, call them anyway. The more calls they get the better it will be for us.
Here are their names and contact numbers:
Mayor Billy Choate – (wk) (405) 382-2280
City Manager Steve Saxon – (wk) (405) 382-4330
Councilman Chayne Fisher – (h=home) (405) 382-5511 (wk=work) (405) 382-0585
Councilman DD Patterson – (h) (405) 382-2805
Councilman Bill Wantland – (h)(405) 382-5068
Councilman Terry Thomason – (h) (405) 382-5347 (cell) (405) 380-7337
Councilman Matt Rose – (c) (405) 612-1903
Councilman Mike Downey – (c) (405) 382-7663
We have NOT lost this project guys. We have a REALLY good chance of getting the trails changed to include ATVs if everyone will call and continue to email me your support letters (email: harmony@okplus.com).
Support your right to ride,
James

Why a bunch of rich, spoiled rock and rollers think they know whats best for the average guy is beyond me, but thats where we are. They believe that they are right in using their celebrity to effect change in our country. They forget that the celebrity they want to use as a club is given by us, the listening public, and can be taken away. The truth is that whatever change is made or not made in November will affect them far less than it will their listeners.
So refuse to attend their concerts (believe me, there will be more after the election) and please dont buy their product. If they want to have a hand in shaping our political landscape, make them go to the polls and cast a vote like the rest of us.

Ok, everyone here knows I don't own a quad, but after doing all my research on ATV trails and such guess what? Yep, I've been bit by the quad-bug.
Now I'm not trying to say that I want a quad, it just seems now that I NEED a quad. Actually, I need TWO of them - one for me and one for my wife. And if she won't ride with me I'll let my girlfriend ride it (HA! - I'm just kiddin').
ANYWAAAAAAYYYYYYY, .... My wife and I aren't into high-flying, loop-de-loop or barrel of death type riding. Nope, as a former MXer I've done all that. Instead (since I recently turned 40), I'm looking for trail-riding quads - something I can explore on without the worry of getting stuck out in the middle of nowhere and relying on my wife to pull me out (Lord knows how men hate that).
I've heard the 660 is absolutely awesome and has great hole-shot power - Is that true? And, isn't it automatic 4-wheel drive?
Look, I don't want to have to search all over the internet or go to dealerships to find what I need. Instead, I just want to rely on my buds here to help me get what I need for what I want it to do.
Oh, and if you're thinking I'm a grandpa ATVer type, THINK AGAIN!! I'll climb the highest, steepest hill against any of you OLD guys (you youngsters can just dream of having the opportunity of riding against me ... )
You youngins' know I'm kiddin'. Right?
Anyway, give me your opinion on the quads.
James
Course, my wife may need a smaller quad. If so, what would you pros recommend?
Posted by: Bluegoose
James,
You will get lots of opinions here. I personally won't buy any utility quad that doesn't have Independant Rear Suspension (IRS). They ride some much smoother than a solid axle. Others on here wouldn't have anything except for a solid axle.
My wife and I both ride Grizzly 660's. Our sons ride sport quads. I also have a Kawasaki V-Force (700cc sport quad) that I haven't rode since I bought the second Grizzly, but my favorite toy is my sandrail. My wife is in her late 40's and I'm 51 years young. We ride at Litttle Sahara Sand Dunes 10-12 times a year.
Yamaha now makes the Kodiak (450cc) (baby grizzly) in the IRS.
What you need to do is get some of us together that have different quads and go ride them. I personally will let you ride my Grizzly's. That way you could see the differences.

James,
I recently purchased my Suzuki 700 and I like it really well. I like the ability to lock (or not) the front differential and the 2/4 wheel drive selectibility. The only knock I have on this machine is that the storage compartment is under the seat, so you must remove the seat anytime you want to access your knick knacks. I purchased this model after having ridden Brent's Kawasaki (Kawasaki and Suzuki kinda merged or did some collaboration, etc etc etc). I will say this...Bargain with your dealer to make them throw in a winch at low/no cost. The winch is the most important part of the machine if you get stuck as often as I do. Hahahaha. IN all honesty though, I grow more impressed with my Suzuki each time I take it out.

I' agree you will get a lot of opinions. I ride with people that swear by Polaris sportsman 700's , then also in the same group are the grizzly 660 ( who love them but watching them on some off cambers seem a bit top heavy,,,,tip heavy) my opinion. The prairie is great they keep up and haul and are as comfortable as they come. They all pretty much come with a locking diff. any more so I would think the price would be the deciding factor. Definately get the winch!! The first time it is used will pay for itself and more!!! The new quads I don't think you can go wrong, just see which one feels best to you!

James,
Aaron brings up one point I had forgotten to mention and that is comfort. The feel of the quad is about as important as the mechanics (in my mind). You would be disappointed if you purchased a machine based solely on technical specs only to find that you really didn't enjoy riding it that much because it was not the most comfortable beast. Being the lard ass that I am, I needed a larger framed bike so that was my primary requirement. The Suzuki Twin Peaks that I bought has a much larger frame than the Honda Rancher I used to ride. After riding the Suzuki for a few hours, I discovered that the seat did not have as much padding as the Honda did, but I happen to have an extreme abundance of natural padding so it's not that big of an issue. Hahahaha. But again, comfort and "feel" are very important aspects of the purchase decision much as they are in purchasing a car or truck.

I knew I came to the right place to ask about this stuff. You guys brought up issues I didn't even think of.
So, will the dealership let you take the quad out for a test drive like auto dealerships do?

Ladies and Gentlemen,
I need to produce an economic impact study to present to the City Council depicting how much revenue would be generated for our community if we get the Sportsman ORV Trails Project approved.
If you have access to such a study, please forward it to me at harmony@okplus.com
If you don&39;t have access to such a study, please help me develop one by answering the following questions;
NO INDIVIDUAL INFORMATION WILL BE SHARED WITH OR ABOUT ANYONE - ONLY THE FINAL "AVERAGED" NUMBERS WILL BE AVAILABLE.
Economic Impact
a) In the vehicle you drove/rode in on your last visit to an ORV park that charged for riding, how many people rode with you?
b) How much did it cost for each individual to ride at the ORV park?
c) Were there any camping/lodging costs involved? If so, how much for each night?
d) How many nights did you stay?
e) How much did you spend on fuel?
f) How much did you spend at restaurants?
g) How much did you spend on food/snacks at local grocery stores/quick stops?
h) Did you or anyone with you spend any time in town shopping for items not associated with ORVing?
i) Did you participate in any other events like boating, fishing, swimming, horseback riding or other event while on your last ORV outing? If so, please list them and the costs associated with them.
j) Please list any other costs you incurred while on your last outing to an ORV outing that charged for riding.
General Information
1) Please list the estimated ages of all those who went with you on your last ORV outing to a trail system that charged for riding.
2) How many male? How many female?
3) What did you like most about your trip?
4) What did you dislike most about your trip?
5) How many miles did you travel to get to the ORV Park?
6) How many days did you stay?
7) How many ORVs did you or your group take?
8) How many trips like you have described do you take per year?
9) How did you learn about the ORV Park you visited – flyer, word of mouth, brochure, magazine, signage, newspaper ad, radio, TV, other (please specify)
10) What is your annual household income? Under $10,000 $10,000-$20,000 $20,000-$30,000 $30,000-$40,000 $40,000-$50,000 Over $50,000 Do not give actual incomes please.
I appreciate you guys helping me with this very vital study. Please copy and paste this and type your answers into an MSWord document and email it to harmony@okplus.com
I must have your answers and this study completed by this coming Tuesday morning August 10th, so please get your answers to me as quickly as possible.
Once I have the final averaged numbers, they will be available to anyone who wants them.
Thanks for your help,
James Hale

James,
Test drive policies vary by dealer, or so I am told. Oklahoma Honda and Suzuki look at you like you're an idio to even suggest it due to liability reasons (Yet I hear they let people test drive 2 wheel bikes all day long). To the contrary I have heard that Jones Off Road (in Jones, OK) actually has a small track out back for you to get the feel of themachine better than just driving it on pavement across the parking lot. I have no clue about any other dealers, but like any business, the consumer is the one with all the power so if you want to test drive it, tell them that the test drive is a deal breaker.

Good morning! Welcome to the club, and the forum.

This sucks!!
I typed up a really cool welcome for Travis and when I hit the "post reply" button my computer completely locked up. What's worse, is that I was funnier 5 minutes ago than I am now and can't duplicate what I originally said. Aw well, I guess at 40 years of age it comes and goes. Guess I'll just have to grit my teeth and FORGET IT!!
Anyway
Travis - welcome to the Central Oklahoma ATV Club forum. You can trust anybody here except Brent, Bob, Keith, Heywood, Tye or anyone else who posts here excluding me - I'm your only ally (hehe - joke)
We're glad to have you aboard, dude. Thanks for the support. I think you'll really like your new family - or at least learn to tolerate them.
See ya tomorrow night at the City Council Meeting,

Gordon,
The issue of allowing the equestrian riders to expand their trails into the proposed ATV trails area was table until next month's meeting - which is what we were hoping for. Now, we have 30 days to get as many people as possible to support the ATVers.
Wanna make a trip to Seminole next month? BR>

I will probably go around 2 or 3. But if no one is going I might go around 4 or 5.

Hey guys. Thanks for the welcome. Has anyone else had a problem accessing www.atvconnection.com, the last few days? Every time I tried to go here it would just take me to a search engine. That is why it has taken me awhile to respond. I am just glad it is working now. Some of you guys that are wanting to ride this weekend, where are you wanting to ride at and exactlly when(day and time). I live in Seminole and would love to take a ride this weekend. It will be my last ride before I start to college. I would like to ride my Banshee, but I dont like to take it through water that is over a few inches deep, because I dont want to damage the engine that I have spent so much money on. That is why I cant go to the river around here with all the rain we got today. Does anyone have anywhere to ride that is not trials, but there is not alot of deep water(such as the river)? I would love to go to a river or somewhere like that that does have alot of water. If not I could ride my Beartarcker or my Rancher, just about anywhere. Yall just let me know when and where and I will let you know if I can make it.

Travis,
Yes the forum here was down for some time but it looks like theyhave their tech problems ironed out now. I can tell you not to be discouraged as we ahve been using this forum for almost a year and that is the frist time I have seen any down time on this board. I am really glad that you and all of the new members are on board for this. I had originally planned to get some mail out tonight but I had a wreck this morning and have been busy getting that straitened out. So look for moew mail soon and an updated club directory.

I might be interested in riding somewhere. Eufala is a little far for me though. Im off Fri-Sun, so let me know if you guys go.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
As most of you are aware I have just sent out the most recent copy of the current club directory. This has contact information for our newest members and I think it would be great if we sent them some sort of welcome mail. I know Mike has already sent a welcome via the Forum and I thank you for that Mike.
That being said, I think we should have a general meeting as soon as possible. This will give the tenured members a chance to meet the newer ones and it will also allow us to have a meeting to make up for the one that a lot of people were not able to make on July 31.
Again, James Hale, David Hoffmeier, and John Carlisle are more than welcome to attend the meeting.
As always, I value your input as to the date and time of the meeting. Any evening after 5:00PM is good for me. Like the date, the meeting location is also open for discussion. In the past we have always had the meetings in the Purcell/Lexington area and that is fine with me but I am always open to new suggestions.
That being said, please let us know if an alternative meeting site would be the most beneficial for all involved.
I thank you for taking the time to review this and as always I look forward to your input. I prefer E-mail but if you prefer, you may respond here on the forum. Thank you.
Respectfully,
Bob

Hey Mike or Aaron,

Bob, we all understand that "things" happen, but WHY would you call "her" a wreck? We can't all look as pretty as you in the morning you know. Plus, we also understand that the girls all get prettier at closing time. Just remember her the way she looked when you THOUGHT she was pretty. HA!
On a more serious note:
Since this is the first meeting with the new club members from Seminole, how about a "centered" location to meet? I suggest (for what it's worth) a location that minimizes travel for everyone in the club (with the exception of Gordon - he's just gonna have to move up here and become a bonified Okie / Ha! just joshin' ya Gordon).
I'll leave it up to you guys - what would be a centered location between OKC, Purcell and Seminole?
James (just spoutin' and such)
Posted by: nukeim
There isn't a free (and legal) riding area in OKC that I know of. (Draper costs $2 a day, but not everyone wants to spend that, and it will be very crowded at 5 in the afternoon). .
We like to ride before/after/during the meetings (kind of the point ). Purcell is free, and there is a pretty good variety of terrain for all quad types and riding level/style, not to mention lots of space for parking, cooking etc. There are also no rules concerning helmets, beer, BBQ, etc. down there.
This is usually why we have it down there. But if someone has a better idear, I'm up for it.
Just my $0.02
Posted by: nukeim
Oh...Sorry Ty, I have to drive to the big "D" to trim some trees, and haul off a bunch of stuff at my mom's place.
Can't ride.
Posted by: gsettle081
GUYS
I CAN NOT MOVE TO OKLAHOMA FOR TWO REASONS
1. My wife will not let me
2. Texas might not let me back in.
On another note, about the meeting....
Have you thought about having in on Saturday morning, THEN take off and ride all day. Purcell would be neat, Perkins, Antlers. I would even go to Seminole. It does not mater to us, but would be a good opportunity to meet you guys.
Let us know.

Howdy! I don't know where to begin, so I will try to start by saying thanks for having me. I am another of the new members from Seminole. I will do my best to make it to the next meeting.
Also, a little bit about me:
I am married, have 2 curtain climbers (2 boys, 3 & 6) and like to ride as a family. My 6 year old has an Extreme 50, My wife has a Kodiak, and I ride the Grizzly. My wife don't have the same fever about it that I do, but the kids make up for it. She has gone with me to Little Sahara, Eufala, Prague (many times) and the river.
Once again, thanks for having me here. Feel free to E-mail me Jasonandmissyb@aol.com or you can always call me on my cell phone at (405) 584-0921.

Does anyone know exactly how long it takes to get from Seminole to Purcell? I really want to attend the next meeting, but I dont know yet what my schedual is for this weekend. I will do my best to make the meeting, no matter where it is held. Yall just let me know something so I can try to make plans to attend.

Purcell is between 1 hour and 1 1/2 hours from Seminole. It is located West of Asher and South of Norman.
I would be willing to go to Purcell for a meeting, since I've never riden there. One question, though: How high is the water since yesterday's flooding. I like to ride rivers, but don't like to ride gas tank high rivers.
Just let me know,
Jason
Posted by: TyShark9
it probably pretty high, but there is plenty of space to ride. enough to keep me busy for around 5 hours

Seminole Riders,
It looks like the best route for you all to take is to go south to Hiway 39, West to Konawa, to Wanette, To Lexington. Once you cross the bridge at Lexington you are in Purcell. They are basically the same town seperated only by the river.
Based upon the input here on the forum, it looks like Purcell is acceptable to the Seminole riders and all of the tenured members are happy with Purcell, so it looks like the place will remain the same. The only item left to be settled now is the date. Is Saturday, August 21 good for everyone? We usually have the meeting on the last Saturday of the month and that is close enough for me.
So if no one has any objections, I propose we have the meeting on Saturday, August 21 at 6:30 PM in the Purcell/Lexington area. We can meet on the river. There is a great meeting place on the river that is accessible either via 4 wheeler or truck (For those who are not going to ride that day). IN THE EVENT THAT THE RIVER IS HIGH AND NO ONE WANTS TO RIDE, WE CAN HAVE THE MEETING AT OUR TRADITIONAL BACK UP LOCATION, The Broken Spoke Restaurant in Lexington. It is just a few hundered yards from the river and we have had many successful meetings there.
The Broken Spoke is on Hiway 39 where it runs right thru the center of Lexington. In Lexington Hiway 39 is called "Broadway". I will post more detailed driving directions as the meeting date nears. Thank you
Bob

Brink and Johnny Reb,
Glad to have you all aboard. I look forward to riding with you guys (and gals) in the near future. Keep posting here and checking the forum as this is the PRIMARY means of communication for the group. Once again thank you for your input and I hope to see you all soon.

Purcell on August 21 at 6:30 PM would be fine with me, that is if I can find where it is at. LOL So is that when and where it is going to for sure be? Keep me posted on whats happening or if any of the plans change. I am going to plan around the meeting so I should be able to make it.

Saturday August 21 is not going to be good for some people.
I have had input and August 21 is a scheduling conflict for some. Are there any other alternate dates that would be acceptable? Does anyone have a problem with August 28? This falls in line with our "Last saturday of the Month" schedule we try to adhere to?
Johnny Reb,
Purcell is on the S. Canadian River south of Norman and west of Wanette/Asher. It is located in McClain County. Lexington is just across the river and is located in Cleveland County. Hiway 39 runs out of Konowa to Asher to Wanette to Lexington/Purcell area. If you go south out of Seminole you should reach hiway 39 and be able to take it to Konawa. Simply stay on 39 Westbound until you cross the river. You can also go to www.mapquest.com and obtain detailed driving directions from your exact address.
So again, to reiterate, it looks as though Saturday the 21 of August presents a scheduling conflict for some. Shall we try for Saturday the 28th?
Bob

August 28 as far as I know will work for me. I currently have nothing planned for then. I now think I should be abe to find Purcell without any problems. Just let me know when yall decide the meeting is going to be held and I will try to make it.

The 28th is good for me Bob. I'm lookling forward to meeting all the people from Seminole.

The 28th looks good for me also. Plus it will give the river time to go down .
Travis, dont worry about the river being too deep. I know that a Banshee can walk on water BR>

I think the 28th will be a good day for a lot of people plus it gives all of the folks a little more notice. I hope to see A LOT of the folks attend the meeting.

As far as planning more than a week ahead, I'm not that good at it. As for attending a meeting and meeting all you guys, I'll work my schedule around it as well as my wife will let me. I hope to get her and the kids around, if kids are allowed at meetings. Just let me know what I need to do. I'm going to let James test drive the Kodiak & Grizzly & (hopefully) will get him on a machine of his own by then. BR>
