I spent my own cash on it and building the site because well. I wanted to know what's out in Oklahoma and where to go. Lived here for 2 years now and want to know were to ride besides Little Sahara and Draper lake hahaahah...I thought it would be a great idea to have our own OKLAHOMA website and pass as much information as possible. i searched and searched and found a few sites mainly for Oklahoma but not as much info. You'll see that it didn't have much water in it that day...............

We're looking at riding the Cimerron River this weekend. Not sure if it'll be saturday or sunday yet, but everyone is welcome to join us.

The weather is saying 30% chance of rain on saturday, but we'll see what happens as it gets closer to the weekend.

The ride on the Cimerron is off for this weekend. I'm told the water is too high. But, we're still gonna ride somewhere. Where? I'm not sure yet. Quite possibly below the dam of Eufaula Lake. Any takers???

James,
I'm out of commission until the 20th. It is the State Spring Livestock Show time. I will be up in OKC until the March 20.

You guys have fun. I have to work.

Not a Honda, But i do have a Rhino in the works.....

I was at Sams last weekend and they have the ArcticCat(c) Prowler for $8995 after Sams discount. They already have radials, aluminum rims, tach, speedo, and many other features STANDARD that cost extra on the Rhino. I also dig the setup for leg room that us larger fellows demand. You might look at them before writing the check.

Ronnie,
I completely understand being out of commission for awhile. Man, does it suck. There's NO PLACE to ride up here that isn't at least a 1.5 hour drive away. And since I work all the time, I haven't ridden in over 2 months. BUT, I'm hitting the trails/river/something this weekend. After the 20th, maybe we can hook up on the South Canadian with a group ride. Believe me, since I moved away from there, I miss it alot. I'm looking forward to an overnight camp-n-ride soon.

Well I got randomly selected to be the featured listing on the forums today. I am still stuck down in florida and they keep extending my time down here. I left the quad at home because it was going to be a short trip and now it keeps getting longer. 3 months without riding sucks. I just bought my little boy a quad so when I finally get home I will have a little riding buddy.

Greg

Posted by: Jamesh921

Thanks for the invite. But LS is a little too far for us to travel for a one day ride. Maybe later this spring we can go.

We've definately decided to ride below the Eufaula dam on Sunday. Anyone who isn't going to LS is welcome to come ride with us.

James

You guys are killing me.
On bunch going to my favorite sand pile and another group going to the Bald eagle roosting spot and I'm going to the Livestock show.

James, when I get finished with this Livestock show marathon, we will be ready for a good ride on the river.

Ronnie

Hey Ronnie,
I'm already chomping at the bit. Can't wait to get back on the river with the gang.

And speaking of riding, we have changed our plans from riding on sunday to riding on SATURDAY below the Eufaula Dam. It's suppose to rain on sunday, so we decided to go on saturday when it's nice and sunshiney. It actually worked out better for everyone that way anyway. Hope some of you guys can make it. We plan on arriving between 11:00 - 11:30 am.

James, Brent and anyone else that has came down to Rivermist and rode.

THERE IS NO MORE ACCESS AT THE RIVERMIST/HIGHWAY99 BRIDGE

The state cut off the access this week. The state engineers out of OKC came down to see how the widening of Hwy99 construction was going. They surveyed the damage to the sides of the road near the bridge and ordered the access road be cut off.

It was the state not the landowners. I just found out this afternoon myself. The land owner on the east side found out when they told him he needed to fix some fence or they would fix it, but it would take them 3-4 days to get a crew in there. They didn't want his cows to get out.

Lot of people not going to be happy. Lot of local riders. There is talk about towing vehicles away that park on the road and ride down, etc.

Just thought I would give a heads up so you guys don't come down and can't get access.

Don't shoot the messenger!!!!!

Ronnie

Posted by: cdogge

Wait! a freakin minute.....

So we can't ride down there anymore or we just can't use the access road??....because I will find a way to ride if it is just the access road......AHHHH!!!

I love going down there and getting trashed and riding 4-wheelers!!!!

Posted by: Bluegoose

cdogge,
It boils down to you will have to have private access to the river. Just like at Hwy 177, Hwy 75 etc.

The parties and all hours riding have caused it. Remember the murder a year ago or so?

Private access will be the only access within 3 months or less.

Don't get mad at me, I don't live on the river. I have lived around it for 30 years and watched all the road accesses be shut down. you statement said alot "I love going down there and getting trashed and riding 4-wheelers!!!! )

Getting trashed and riding has caused alot of this. Don't get me wrong. I love all the above. I love to go down there. I might even get trashed on occasions and I love to ride 4 wheelers. just can't mix the three together.

Sorry,
Ronnie

Posted by: toehanus

Does anybody know of any other access points on the S. Canadian? It seems like I read somewhere that there's a way to access the river in Purcell.

You shoud probly be able to see the apartment located to the S.W. of there..pull in and park then take the dirt road south to the rver.

I think I've forgotten how to start my quad.

Posted by: lvthoutdrs

3 of us went to crossbar on Sat. Great riding. It is getting dry and dusty, but the rain today should fix that. The water crossings were about normal as they are somewhat elevation controlled by the rocks.

I am designing a new type of ATV trailer that can be easily backed up when pulled behind a travel trailer or 5th wheel. It wont be one of those flimsy swivel wheel models. This will elimate the need of buying a toy hauler if you already have a travel trailer.

Love these warm riding days.

charlie

Posted by: Brink74868

The whole river thing really does suck. I don't ride a whole lot there, but I have had some GREAT riding days there.

Charlie,
Remember that when pulling multiple trailers, one is required to have a CDL with the proper endorsements. I know for a fact that the fine, if stopped by a trooper, is well over $500.00. Just don't want anyone to get caught unaware and get a monster fine.

I know a few secret spots in Norman that get to the river. I do know that at hwy9 & 24th street they will give you a trespassing ticket if you park on that guys property (the open grass field by the apts). I just take my truck down to the river and park it there

Posted by: RatTerrier

What a bunch of a-holes! Parkin n unloadin yer wheeler in the open field by the apts tresspassing....he should have it fenced off then. And are there signs posted no tresspassin? Thats just bein stupid.

Posted by: Jamesh921

Ronnie,
Thanks for the head up. What about the parking area on the NORTH side of the river. Are they going to put a stop to that too? How about parking at the Rivermist Truck Stop on the hill and riding down to the river. Could we get away with that? Or would the cops simply wait for us to come off the river and give us a ticket for riding on the right-of-way?
I realize you may not know the answers to these questions. Maybe Brinker could find out for us. How 'bout it Brink? Can you help us find out about this?

I know of a place south of Holdenville that we can get on the river at, but you have to know the guy who owns the property - or go with someone who does. Once you go a couple times with a "host" and they get to know your face, you can start going by yourself. Great place and great people there. They cook a big meal and feed everyone on Saturday evenings. And they won't even let you pay for it. But, he only allows people access on Saturdays. That's the only drawback. Plus, it's a 33 mile ride on the river back to Rivermist where all my buds like Ronnie and his crew hang out.

What about access from Francis, Atwood, Allen or Calvin? We rode all the way to Calvin once, rode into town and gassed up and headed back to Rivermist. Anybody know if there's a place to park there and ride down to the river?

I know the cops in Asher won't hassle you unless you get on the highway. I believe you can park up by one of the quickstops (preferrably the one on the west side of the road because the access trail down to the river from the right-of-way is on the west side of the highway).
We rode to Asher from Rivermist a couple times and then rode up to the quickstop there to get something to eat. One of the cops there stopped us and told us he didn't mind if we rode down the right-of-way, but if we crossed the road, we were to "walk" our quads across, not ride. Walking one accross seems more dangerous to me, but hey, it's his town and his rules. As long as he'll let us ride from there, I can live with it. But, it's 32 miles to Rivermist from Asher.

Anybody else got any ideas??

James

Posted by: RatTerrier

I got an idea for the River in Norman there on 24th at the apts...just park at the apts like you live there n unload yer ride n go play, piss on parkin in the field......???

Posted by: Yamota

I wouldn't park at the apartments. shady characters in there. you can park in the street as long as you're not by the fire hydrant. some people unload then take their truck over to Atwoods and walk back over. There's a road out by tri-city that goes down to the river through an oil field but would need 4x4 to get on the riverbed. There's a couple other ways in Norman but you'd need a short wheelbase 4x4 and no trailer (or at least I havent tried it with a trailer yet). The best way is to just drive through at 24th st and take your truck down to the river. I pull my trailer down there and as long as you dont get in the soft sand 2-wheel drive is fine, even with a trailer.

Posted by: lvthoutdrs

Jason, I'm sure you are right about the towing. I and many others have towed boats and atv trailers behind our 5th wheels for years. The DPS says that it has to be under 65' with the center trailer having brakes, nothing about the CDL unless the combined weight is over 26001#.
This new type of trailer just makes backing as if you only had the RV. I would like to clarify this grey area if possible.

thanks
charlie

Yes we have been warned by the cops at the tracks at purcell. We go to NE 23rd and Sooner. There is about 50 or so riders out every time we go. I have talked to other people who have been ridding there and they have been going for about 6 years with no problem.

I owuld have to agree, i dont think i would want my truck parked in those APTS....talk about your local crack whores and such ahahahaha.....that sucks about the cops though, thats where we would unload and ride down to the bridge. I did hear of other ways of getting down in there though

Hey guys...It seems Mark has hurt his neck and it's not going to be getting any better...So he's selling his '03 300EX. It's pretty much stock with some aftermarket bars and nerfs. You've all seen him ride...He rides like Bob...So it's not been beat on.

It books out at something like $2800 or so...Make a fair offer and I'm sure he'd take it.

Posted by: Brink74868

Charlie,

I will do some checking on the trailer thing with a couple of trooper buddies of mine.

James,

I wouldn't want to chance riding on the right of way. I do believe there is open access to the river in Calvin just north of town on the west side of the highway. It has been awhile, though. I do have an uncle at Atwood with river access but he is an A hole. He won't let ANYONE on the river. He has been known to try to run people off who are just riding down the river. He thinks he owns the world.

Jason "I may as well just sell my trailer" Brinker

Posted by: Jamesh921

Jason
Yea, I remember you talking about him last year. Too bad he's not one of the good guys who loves to ride too. Maybe we should all get together on the river right in front of his property and throw him a surpise party in his honor. Would he drink a beer with us if we offered him one (and you were there)???

Also, does anyone know if they're trying to eliminate riding on the river for everyone? OR are they just wanting to stop the parking below the bridge?? Seems like there may be a "Conspiracy Theory" from Norman thru Purcell and down to Rivermist. Where's Mel Gibson when you need him? He could figure this out - if there were Blackhawk Helicopters watching our every move and secretly juicing us up with a secret syrum. Wait!! What's that??? I hear a thmph, thmph, thmph coming from overhead and now a ladder has dropped from the sky. If you guys don't hear from me soon, call Julia Roberts and tell her I need her hel..........................

Ok, all joking aside. Does anyone know if the 15 acres that is located on the Northeast side of the Rivermist bridge is still for sale???

And on a very serious note, how many of you would drive to Eufaula to ride on 264 acres that has challenging and non-challenging trails for everyone in the family?? And would you be willing to pay $8 per day per person to ride it??
Now, I know that you can ride below the Eufaula Dam for FREE, but continually riding the same area (with the exception of the South Canadian at Rivermist) can get boring. So, again, would you be willing to drive to Eufaula and pay $8 bucks per person to ride for the day???

James

Posted by: trailride

I would also like to know if any land could be leased or purchased on the river between purcell and rivermist. I have a group of people that will be all over it

P.S. I am having a ST. Patties day party this Saturday night at my house. FREE BEER!!!!!!!!!!!!! Green beer that is. Call me if you dont know the way

Brent 203-3104

Posted by: Bluegoose

As far as I know they're not trying to eliminate riding on the river for everyone. They just want to stop the parking below the bridge, on the roadway etc. Same thing that happened at Hwy 177, Hwy 48, and Hwy 75.

I heard the 15 acres was still for sale. $29,000. Don't know if it is true or not. I think it was Justin that told me that, and we had throwed a few back at that point.

The access you are talking about at Calvin is private land. It has been open this time for about 3 years.

There is public access at Canadian, OK. Long way from Rivermist (90 miles).

99.9% of the access to the river is through private land.

Ronnie

Posted by: toehanus

Several years ago, I seem to remember that there was access to the Little River just east of Spaulding (west of hwy 48). Going down the L.R. it was less than 2 miles to access the Canadian. I looked it up on my map and the road is EW 139. Does anybody know if that location is still available?

Anyone ever ride the Three Rivers WMA or Ouchita Forest area near Broken Bow, Ok? Wanting to make a trip there this weekend and looking for some good info on areas to pitch a tent and ride. Got some decent info off the net but still not real sure where to go direction wise to camp. I know you can camp anywhere in the forest was just looking for some more precise directions to a good camping spot and trails to ride (like road names to get there). Thanks for any help.

Newrider,
There are several members on here who have ridden that area and can give you some sound advice. However, I'm not one of them. But be patient, they'll chime in soon and give you all the info you need. Welcome to the board. You'll find a bunch of great people here, 2 screwballs and one pyromaniac. It's up to you to figure out who is who. BR>
SUNDAY RIDE
We are planning a ride on Sunday for "somewhere" - not sure yet but should know later today. Looks like it'll either be Big Reds or the South Canadian "NEAR" Rivermist (private access). There's an outside possibility we could ride below the Eufaula Dam again.
Anyway, anyone who wants to join in is welcome to come. Time TBA soon.

James,
Hope you guys have fun. My riding will have to wait a little longer now. Tyler's show steer decided I was his personal dummy target and now I have 6 broke ribs. I didn't slow down and rest like the doctor told me to a couple weeks ago and now some of the ribs have seperated at the breaks. I ended up in the hospital Tuesday night for about 5 hours.

Sure glad Matt works in the ER, cause I got to go to the front of the line. I had to promise to stay home and rest or they were going to put me upstairs in a hospital room for 7-10 days. I'm missing the last half of the State Livestock show. I haven't missed a livestock show in 30 years. Sure glad I have some super good students and parents, they are picking up the slack and still showing. They call me every day to tell me how they placed that day.

Might be a long summer if I can't ride much.

I'm riding the recliner and sofa with the best of them, but I sure am getting tired of the interior of this house.

Have fun and enjoy it enough for the both of us.

Ronnie

Posted by: Jamesh921

Ronnie,
Dude, when did this happen? Did it happen before I called you or since? Broken ribs take alot of time to heal. At least 6 weeks for a young guy - for you it may take all summer oops - just kidding.

But seriously, broken ribs is one of the most painful bones you can break and they have to heal COMPLETELY before you can return to your normal activities. Any idea how long you'll be out of service???

Did you have a fairly large group of Utility riders? Me and a couple of buddies were at Eufaula Saturday and saw a large group of riders take off down the river...Just curious...I had my paddles on my Z400(which worked really well in most areas of Eufaula) so we didn't get too adventurous past the first
mile or so....Could a sport bike make it how you went? Just wondering cause we loaded the bikes up and drove to Whitefield and rode there
for a little while before heading home....

Posted by: Jamesh921

4wheel,
Our crew consisted of 4 utility quads, but we didn't go anywhere a sport quad couldn't go. Well, on second thought, we did hit a little deep water. I guess some sport quads would have made it, but I believe some others wouldn't have. Just depends on where their air intake was located. Plus, I've seen guys who ride sport quads stand them up on their rear wheels and "gun" it through deep water. So, I guess it would depend on the rider too.

We rode all the way to the Whitefield bridge but couldn't cross the river because it hadn't receded enough from the corps opening the gates at the dam earlier in the day. We could see sport quads drag racing on the northeast side of the bridge, and we saw a few utility quads on the northwest side of the bridge, but we were on the south side of the river. It sucked to ride all that way and not be able to cross over and meet some of the guys who were riding there, but now we're planning on unloading at Whitefield and riding further down river to see how far we can go. Also, there is a (deep) creek that joins the south canadian on the east side of the bridge, which prevented us from riding over the bridge to the north side of the river. I guess it just wasn't meant to be on that day.

Have you ever ridden further down river from Whitefield? If so, how far can you go?

James

Posted by: 4wheel4food

No...I have never ridden further down the river than Whitefield....
Like I said I ride a sport quad and don't really like having it in the
water for extended periods of time...Creek crossings and stuff like
that I don't mind too much, but riding in river beds for extended periods
of time has always added up to bad bearings and other various malfunctions...
That was the farthest I have ever seen the water up on either end(Dam or Whitefield)....
I didn't realize they had open the gates that morning...We just assumed it was from the rain earlier in
the week....

Well, it's settled. We're definately riding at Lake Keystone (Appalachia Bay) on Sunday(tomorrow). We're meeting at the trailhead at 11:00 am. It looks to be about a 1.5 - 2 hour drive from OKC. Here's the directions that I got;

Directions to Appalachia Bay (Lake Keystone) Riding Area.

Take Hwy 48 north to Hwy 412. Go east on 412 and exit at ?Bear?s Glen Exit?

Use the access road on the south side of 412 to continue east to the Recreation Park.

Turn south into the park and the ATV parking area is down a road on the left.

Hope some of you guys can make it. It's going to be a BIG time.

Garmin Waypoint information: N36 10.876 W96 16.468 Appalachia Bay (Lake Keystone) Riding Area.

Posted by: Batman1usa

Hey Mike I'd like to catch up with you sometime and ride. The Appalacian Bay area is a great place for a day. I've only been once but it was a blast on the Rancher. News update,,,,, Rancher sold and I'm sportin' an '07 Red KingQuad myself. Just got it this past Tuesday. I'm headed out to Little Sahara for Snake Hunt weekend Saturday only daytripper. Maybe go out Friday and ride the night then come home Saturday..... Undecided at this moment. Might run out next Saturday for Easter weekend for the day only.
Anyway email me sometime when you go on a ride at Keystone and I'll try to drive over. I'm located near PoncaCity. Kaw Lake riding area is similiar in size and terrain as Appalachian Bay.
See ya in the hills.

Birthday weekend next weekend, be heading home to SW Oklahoma, go ride in the "cough" mountains. =O) Last weekend in April, in Mangum Oklahoma, they have their rattle snake derby, my brother has won it the last 8 years in a row. See if he can make 9.

Have a good one, hope to ride with ya soon.

WOOOOWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!

Nine straight days without a new post. I can't believe everyone ran out of things to say. Surely there must be something interesting going on. Anybody planning a trip soon??

Posted by: TheSuzukiKing

Anyone ever check out the Garmin Rino line of GPS/RADIO/Tracking devices. Perfect for quadding, always know where everyone is. No one will ever be lost, of course I got separated from the pack last time, twice. Everyone's position shows up on the screen of where everyone else is. And can talk back and forth.

How's that James. =O)

Going to SW Oklahoma was postponed a weekend, so going to SW Oklahoma this weekend, quad in tow.

Posted by: Bluegoose

James,
I was wondering where everyone was too. I broke my ribs on Feb 27 and I didn't slow down for a couple of weeks and they seperated. I think that was before you called. They are stiill sore. Will be awhile before I will be riding.

On a better note. For all of you guys that know Matt (HoundDog06) . He got accepted into Medical School. He starts in August. Now I will have someone to fix me up when I get hurt.

There goes all of are money for the next 4-6 years.

TICK WARNING!

I hate it when people forward bogus warnings, and I have even done it myself a couple times unintentionally...but this one is real, and it's important. So please send this warning to everyone on your e- mail list.
If someone comes to your front door saying they are checking for ticks due to the warm weather and asks you to take your clothes off and dance around with your arms up, DO NOT DO IT!! THIS IS A SCAM!! They only want to see you naked.

I wish I'd gotten this yesterday. I feel so stupid.

There is a possibility that a few of us will be riding at Big Red's this Sunday. Anyone else going? Want to hook up with us???

Also, we went to Appalacia Bay a couple weeks ago (first time). That place is pretty cool. Looking forward to going there again soon.

Has anyone here ridden below the dam at Hudson Lake? I heard there is some great rock climbing (on 4-wheelers) to be had there. If you've been there, please give us some info.

Posted by: TheSuzukiKing

I'd be happy too, but all loaded up heading to SW Oklahoma as soon as I get out of this place. =O)

I'd like to do Appalachia Bay again when the water goes down, heard we missed out on about 200 Acres of trails that day. For the distance, I think it would be awesome to camp there.

Everyone have a safe weekend, hope to ride with you guys next weekend!!!!!!!!

Hey Guys,
I just talked to the Park Ranger down at Talimena State Park and he told me there is a "possibility" that ATV riding privilages "may" be revoked by the US Foreste Dept. He said he's really not sure what they're going to do, but they will be making a decision at their upcoming meeting.
The US Forest Dept. is holding a meeting at Poteau, Ok at the Days Inn Motel at 4:00 pm on May 30th to determine what they're going to do about ATV riding in the park. Don't know if anyone here rides down there, but I'd sure hate to see us lose another riding area.
Course, there is the possibility too that they will simply determine where ATVs can be ridden and where they can't.

From what I was told by the Oklahoma Forestry Service, the person to contact to voice concerns or ask questions to is
Carolyn (CJ) Norvell
US Forestry Service
918-567-2326
Talihena, Ok

I tried to call her today but she was out of the office.

Here's the website for the Talimena State Park if you want to look it over.

http://www.oklahomaparks.com/detail.asp?id=1+5U+3615

Use Talimena State Park as the base for your hiking, biking or ATV adventure in the beautiful Ouachita National Forest.

Phone: (918) 567-2052
Fax: (918) 567-2052

He also said that Weyerhouser is leasing out thousands of acres to private individuals who are in return leasing the rights to those acres to other private individuals as hunting property. This is causing those acres to be closed off to public use. Geez, what next?

That yellow thing with 4 wheels is still out in my shed. I think it will still start but I haven't tempted fate lately. I am going to soon though. Now do I push the lever forward to give it gas??? It's been a while.

I will see you all later somewhere down the line. I may go to that Big Red place some time. Do they require helmets? I have a helmet but I hate wearing it. It makes me look fat.

So, what's the deal at Rivermist? Are they letting us park on the north side of the bridge, or not at all???
Ronnie (or anybody), you got any info???

James

Posted by: Batman1usa

Where is this Rivermist you speak of? Where can I get details?

Batman

Posted by: Jamesh921

Hiya Batman,
The Rivermist is an entry point onto the South Canadian River that is located about 20 miles south of Seminole, OK on Hwy 99.

For several years, many of us have gained access to the river by using a service road that led to a parking area under the bridge. However, Hwy 99 is now being widened into a 4-lane Hwy and that access road has been cut off and we can no longer park under the bridge, unload our ATVs and access the river from that point.

And, it has been brought to our attention that "all" access to the river at Rivermist may be removed. And although the access under the bridge has been removed, I'm trying to find out if we can still park on the north side of the bridge and access the river from there or if all access to riding the river from there has been cut off.

I hope one day you get to ride the South Canadian from the Rivermist. That area is totally different from any other area that I've ridded on the South Canadian. It's really cool because the landowners adjacent to the river in that area have set up their own RV parks, hold poker runs and have all kinds of spurr-of-the-moment events like midnight rides and fourth-of-July fireworks shows. And of course, it's all free - just bring your own beer and lawn chair, tent, ect... It's my favorite place to ride in the whole world, but since I moved away from there, I'm trying to find out whether there is still public access or if I need to enter the river on one of my friend's properties.

James

Posted by: Bluegoose

James,
As of right now you can take a chance and park on the road and ride off the side of the embankment. If you get caught it is costly. Hasn't stopped some yet. Rumor has it that the state is going to put up concrete barriers from the bridge railing to the fences.

On the north side you can still park as of now. The river is bank to bank and the channel is on the north side as usual.

Rumor has it that by the end of May the only access is going to be by private land only.

It is the best riding in the state. Has everrything except sand.

Call Brad before hauling and then agan before leaving I-35.

I go about everyother week. Lots of water lately.

It is not for the beginner, but there are ways around the hard areas.

I have rode out at cross bar ranch and it is a great time. Just like it was stated earlier it there is a little bit of riding for everyone. There is a wooded trail that is like 30+ miles long that makes a loop. When I went there were some side trails but we didn't get to ride them because of a busted atv in the group that had to be towed back. We were almost all the way around by that time. They are constantly building new trails there so there might be more now. I was there back in January. Good times. By the way it is $6.50 after taxes and like stated earlier call down by the freeway because when you get to the gate entrance there isn't much cell reception. Also it is a couple miles up to the parking area. When you come to a intersection just stay straight. Enjoy your trip.

James "I ain't no fan of helmets for those of us over 18 yrs old" Hale

Helmets and boots are REQUIRED. Any kind of boots will work. That is strickly enforced. It is city property that you ride on there.

Anybody riding this Sunday? The weather's gonna be awesome.

Posted by: Bluegoose

James,
You should have been with us today. I got tyhe griizz out and let's just say I will be working on it tomorrow.. I got pulled in the last 3 miles down the river. I found a deep hole. I was swimming. The grizz was diving like a duck. It got water logged. I told Ty to just pull me to the trailer and take me home and I would work on it tommorrow. Too much Bud Light and fun on the river.

Come see me and go riding with us.

Ronnie

Posted by: Jamesh921

Hehe
Ronnie - been there, done that. Can't tell you how many times I've been tripped up by Mr. Bud.

I didn't know the river had gone down enough to ride it yet. I guess it hasn't gone down enough in "some" spots as you have pointed out. I've found that if I happen to notice I've visited Mr. Bud Light too many times that day, it's best to let someone else lead. Let them test the waters first. BR>
Anyway, I'm looking to hit the river pretty soon. I'll holler when I know when I'm going to get to go. And, ....... you can lead.

James

Posted by: Bluegoose

James,

Well the river isn't down enough to ride especially in many spots. You know how River Rats are though. Just couldn't wait to go down river. We only got to RC's camp (maybe 3 miles). We stopped and help him fillet some catfish and had a fish fry, and rode badk home. I just had to try a new path from everybody else and man was it deep. The grizz was totally under and it never hit bottom. The hole was over my head and boy the water was cold.

It sure was fun to get to ride again, but I'm a little sore this morning. Broke ribs are getting better.

I better get started getting the grizz going again.

Just got home about an hour ago from riding Three Rivers WMA. Holy crap! That place is amazing. I only rode 32 miles today, but I didn't even come close to touching all that the place has to offer. I did however manage to shred a tire on a rock about 5 miles from the truck. Stupid rocks. If you haven't ridden Three Rivers, I definitely suggest you give it a try. It's a long drive, but well worth it.

toe

Posted by: fraser

This was our second year going. the first year we just rode three rivers, but this year we found the trails across the highway around broken bow lake. They are way better. the trails are just wide enough for an atv.

Posted by: Batman1usa

OK we have enough rain to satisfy the most serious of you mudd junkies. I say let it dry out just a little so the rest of us can enjoy some trails without the drizzlin rain.
I'm going to have to load up and try these places you guys speak of. I'm kinda confined here in North central OK and everyone around here rides 2x4 sport bikes. They just haven't stepped onto a 4x4 to understand all they are missing out on. I'm tryin to convert some over but it's like pullin teeth. They think they need the speed thing.... Hmmmm, when I passed two Suz Z400 last week at the dunes maybe that opened their eyes a bit. kids.

I just got back from a long weekend down at Lake Murray. That is the first time I have been there and it was nice. It will be packed. Almost all the sites have been reserved already with people paying for the week and leaving thier trailer on the spot till the weekend. We had someone knocking on our door last night asking when we were going to be leaving because he wanted our spot. He was back this morning at 8:30 with his trailer waiting for us to leave. The mud holes are still deep for those of you brave enough. Saw several quads sunk to the bars with people wading back out. About chest deep in a couple. The texas mud guys are camped there now and fully decked out. Should be a good weekend. Enjoy the riding. My quad is in pieces right now as I am chasing down an electrical issue. Gotta love oklahoma mud.

You can find info on the ATV events @ sparksamerica.com
They also have 4x4 events that are pretty cool too. You can see alot of the action by going to their website, clicking on Mudstock and then clicking on the "pictures" icon. Or, you can just go here

Hey Guys, I need some parts and I could use your help.

I remember someone mentioning something about an ATV "junk yard" near OKC that deals in used parts, but I can't remember the name. Any of you guys know who I'm talking about. I think I remember it being called by somebody's first name like Rusty's or Dave's or something like that, but I'm not really sure.

And just in case some of you guys have access to some extra parts lying around, I need the following;

a) Left rear CV joint for an ' 05 Artic Cat 400
b) A Pull Start Recoil mechanism for an '05 Yamaha Kodiak 450 (4x4)
c) Rear taillight for the Kodiak
d) Right side foot rest for the Kodiak
e) And possibly a front fender and rack for the Arctic Cat

I'd appreciate your help in finding the place I mentioned. Getting the CV joint for the Artic Cat by this weekend is crucial. I know used parts aren't as good as new, but I'll be in OKC on Friday and could pick it up and install it myself. I doubt that any of the local shops could have it ready by then and we're planning on riding saturday, which brings me to another topic.

If the South Canadian is down by then, we're planning on riding it from Hwy 99 south of Seminole. If it's still up, we're going to ride at Big Red's south of Tecumseh. If any of you guys wanna join us, you're more than welcome to come.

Ronnie,
Are people still allowed to park on the north side of the bridge on Hwy 99 ??

The movie is called The Hunt.

And off the top of my head, those of us in the credits are: Aaron, Dakota, Me, Matthew, and Matthew.

James,
I just got home from a week of riding in northern Missouri. Those guys up north of Kansas City know how to put on a ride. Poker run and all. There will be video out in a day or two. Some really funny sh*t. I got to name a creek since I conquered it first, both north and south bound. It now is called "Grizzly Creek".

The south canadian river is not down enough to ride or at least it didn't look like it when I crossed it last night about 7:00pm. The river is about 3/4 across the basin and is on the north side. Want to drown one?????? Deep and swift on the north side.

Ronnie

Posted by: Jamesh921

I posted a response earlier, but it somehow got lost in cyberspace. Anyway, since the river is up, I guess we'll be riding at Big Red's saturday at about 11:00 am if'n anyone wants to come join us. We're going to cook out later in the day. And, we're bringing the wives and kids, so if anyone else want to bring theirs they'll have someone to hang out with.

Ronnie,
I guess it took a South Canadian experienced Okie to show them Mizzou boys how to ride. Good job!!

Take a look at this site. It is cross country racing in oklahoma and from what I have heard from the quad guys that race there it is alot of fun and a good group that run it and race in it. There is a race next weekend and then there is a break in the schedule then they will resume. I am currently having quad problems but hope to start up with them when they start back up.

James,
Do you want to know how high the river is today? We have had 9" of rain in the last two days.

I haven't seen it rain like this for better than 25 years. Water is everywhere. It may be August or later before we get to ride again.

I need a boat or maybe an ark.

Ronnie

Posted by: Jamesh921

Ronnie,

Yea, I know. I've been in Seminole all this week. I haven't seen the river, but then again, with all the rain we've got I don't need to see it. I'm sure it's just as you said, "bank to bank".

If we want to ride the river this year, we may have to trade in our quads for some wave runners :0) or an air boat.

Since we can't ride the river this weekend, does anyone want to go to Big Red's on Saturday?

Geez, I wish we had more places to ride close by.

Been wondering what happened to you. I can't remember what my rail was like the last time I saw you. It now is a 2 seater. I cut 20" out of the frame and put it back together. Runs and reacts much better as a 2 seater. Lots more fun.

Hopefully we will get some good footage this week.

Come to dunes and play.

dont know if anyone is looking but my neighbor is going to trade in her honda 350 rancher manual shift prob this sat. it appears to be the kind of condition that you would expect a 40ish year old womans quad to be in (pretty darn nice) and she told me that the dealer is only gonna give her $2000 for it. I would think that this is a good deal that some one could pick up for their wife or older kids. I am just throwing it out there as i have no need for another wheeler right now.

Went and rode the river at Purcell today - it's still too high to cross, but there's enough dry land to go kill a few hours

Posted by: Bluegoose

Well you guys missed one of the best Little Sahara trips that I have ever been on. I broke the tranny on the first afternoon and I had to ride the grizz the rest of the week. There was 19 of us on 4 wheelers.

One of my cousins from Winston, Missouri jumped his Polaris 500 Sportsman 72 feet on one of the dunes. Not just once but numerous times. I will get video up soon. Some of the sport bike 4 wheeler guys was calling him a crazy mother F.........

Those boys from the "Show Me" state did conquer our dunes. That's okay since I conquered their creek.

Just wanted to let you all see an email I just recieved from a OKC Council woman about riding down at 23rd and Sooner. Not good. We will see how it is enforced. Guess I will be buying that pass out to draper.

Thank you for your note and comments regarding the ATV riding area north of NE 23rd Street. I received calls from affected property owners in the area expressing their concern about this activity and the noise levels. Subsequent to these calls, I asked that legal determine the authority by which this activity was permissible in this area. I am advised that this activity is prohibited in this area of the river. Staff is proceeding with signage and eliminating access to the area.

It is not my position to deny you the right to enjoy this recreational activity with your family. I have further requested that City staff identify alternate sites for you and the others who will be displaced by the closing of the area.

Thank you again for your comments! Should you have questions or further comment, please advise.

Has anyone been to Murray lately? Just curious about the riding conditions down there...We are planning a trip down there next weekend to camp and ride...anyone who wants to join us come on!

Posted by: Jamesh921

Raptor,
Don't know about the conditions at Murray, but a few of us are heading to Big Red's sunday (today) about 1:00 pm. Hope some of you guys can make it. It hasn't been raining at Big Red's like it has everywhere else so the riding there is pretty great right now.

James

Posted by: Bluegoose

James,
You remember your old riding spot at Little River? You can't imagine how much water is there. Little River is out of it's banks again. Well it has been out of it's banks for weeks now. It has been better than 25 years since I have seen this kind of water moving down the creeks and rivers in this part of the state.

I can't beleive it the middle of July and we haven't cut and baled any hay yet. Maybe this week if it doesn't rain any.

Ronnie

Posted by: out18law18

anybody drive over the river at I-44 or I-35 this weekend? how high did it look because according to the river level website it should be rideable.@!!!!!!

Posted by: Jamesh921

Ronnie,
I saw it last week and yea, it was higher than I've ever seen it then. I can only imagine what our old park looks like now.

I'm chomping at the bit - ready to ride the river. I'm having withdrawals. Have you heard anything about Bill Ross's or RC's campsites. Did they get flooded? How about the Snack Shack. Did it float away?

James

Posted by: Bluegoose

It got up around Ross's picknic table. Went over the retaining wall. I don't think anything happened around RC's. His sits really high. His only problem was the county roads getting there.

Our camp is just plane muddy. I went down a couple weeks ago. Can't ride so, why go?

It just isn't the same not riding the river.

Ronnie

Posted by: Jamesh921

"It just isn't the same not riding the river."

Man, ain't that the truth!!!!!

However, it looks like the rain is letting up. If only the Eufaula Lake Dam could drain faster. Anybody here good with explosives?????

James "now where did I put that immoniam nitrate" Hale (hehe)

Posted by: Bobman

Yall remember that day Homeland Security hauled James off in handcuffs? Hahaha

3 weeks from now we will all be complaining about a lack of rain and the weather stations will be touting this summer as the worst drout (sp?) in 20 years.

I think I am going to try to ride soon. Where is this Big Red ATV park located? IS it open mid week? How much does it cost to ride? Is helmet required?

Bob "Inquiring minds want to know" Bobman

Posted by: Jamesh921

Bob,
Big Red's is located in Macomb, OK - about 8 miles south of Tecumseh off Hwy 177. Joe MeGregor is the owner and a heck of a nice guy. Tell him you know me - that'll at least get you a free beer.

No helmet law required at Big Red's. $5.00 per day will give you all the entertainment on a quad you'll need (I currently do not know of any existing "brass poles", but you can always put in your requests.

The park IS open during the week, but there aren't many riders: however there are a few (according to Joe). Call before you haul is always the general rule. Here's the info available from atvconnection.com about the park.

Big Red Off Road Park

Big Red Off Road Park
30055 Old Hwy 18
Macomb, OK 74852
Park URL: http://www.bigredoffroadok.com
Email: bigredoffroad@earthlink.net
Phone: (405) 201-7022
Fax:
Nearest Town: Tecumseh, OK
Trail Length: 12 miles
Trail Type: Woods, Canyons, Mud etc...
Skill Level: 4=All Types
Park Contact:

Directions: From I40 East of Oklahoma City, take hwy 177 south through Shawnee and Tecumseh. Turn left on hwy 59B. Turn right at the stop sign and the park is 1 mile to the south on hwy 18. See the map on Big Red's website.

Trail Description: Big Red Off-Road Park has 160 acres that is privately owned and operated with over 12 miles of well-marked trails (so far) going through creeks, canyons and forests.

Info Other: This is a great park for all of the family. The trails are marked Easy, Medium and Hard. See the website for more information.

1.5 mile motocross style track currently under construction.

This info should be updated. There are more that 12 miles of trails now and more being added every week. Plus, even though it's only 160 acres, it'll take you all day to ride the entire property.
There's a community fire pit where you can just hang out and knock a few back. Plus, there's almost always something on the grill to eat. If you're hungry, there's no set amount to pay for what you consume, they just ask for donations.

If you go during the week and there aren't many people there, Joe will hang out with you (or your group) and give you a tour of the property. After all, he likes to ride just as much as we do. I'd go with you myself, but I've been swamped at work and there's no way I could get a day off during the week right now. Anyway, get Joe's number from his website and give him a call. He's really easy to talk to and he'll answer any other questions you may have.

On some other notes:

Ronnie,
What does the river look like now? Work is keeping me north of the South Canadian Line so I haven't had the chance to see how much (if any) it's gone down. Give us an update and let us know if it's getting close to being ridable.

Mudstock in Sparks, OK starts friday. All events will be held on Saturday. I have friends going down Friday morning and I'll be joining them Friday evening after work. For more info, here's the flyer - http://www.sparksamerica.com/docs/mud07.pdf
I hope some (alot) of you guys show up. It's gonna be a blast!!!!

James

Posted by: Bluegoose

James,
I have no idea how the river looks. We have been working 12-14 hours a day. This is the first time I have checked this forum in 4 or 5 days. We are baling hay like crazy. We are only a month behind. I will check on it soon. Time to go to the hay field.
Later,
Ronnie

Posted by: Bluegoose

James,
Just for you I went down to the river and talked to the locals. Water is going down, still wide and still uncrossable.

The best part there is QUICK SAND from hell. The sand has been under water for 3+ months and it is soggy.

Maybe we can ride next summer. Won't be any long rides this summer.

Ronnie

Posted by: Jamesh921

Man, I hate to hear that. We were looking forward to another Rivermist to Eufaula ride. Guess that'll have to wait til next year.

Hey Guys,
Been outta town working for several days. No access to a computer sucks!!

Mudstock was a great time. I saw Bruteforce Bob and a few others there having way too much fun. You guys should see the lightshow that Bob has on his quad. Sweeeeeeeet!!!
Saw a guy break the wings on his backbone. He launched his new 800 Can Am about 7 or 8 feet straight up in the air. Only problem was that he came straight back down. He slammed his back into a cargo rack he had on back of the quad. His quad came straight down with no forward motion. The rear wheels hit first with such force that it bent both axles forward almost to the fender and bent the frame. Everybody knew he was hurt before he even hit the ground. You could just see it coming and there was nothing anyone could do about it.
Two riders later a guy rolled his sport quad and when they both stopped rolling - the quad came to rest right on top of him. Pretty tough character - the guy got up (after we pulled the quad off him) and finished the race. No serious injuries for him.

The mud flew from the 4X4's and the quads tore up everything from trails to rock climbing. Looking forward to going back in September. Oh yea, and some people drank some beer too. Some drank too much!!! I'm blackmailing them as we speak (hehe).

Hey Ronnie,
How's that river coming?? I'm moving back to Seminole this weekend. Will be gone next weekend, but weekend of the 18th looks good for me if'n it's down. How 'bout you? Does that weekend look good for you??

James

Posted by: Bluegoose

James,
Glad you are coming back this way. I'm tied up until Matt leaves for med school on the 20th.

I'm up for a ride as soon as he leaves.

The guys at the river said bring a tow rope because somebody will need it.

Ronnie

Posted by: campNride

I missed that quad wreck. What day did that happen? Mudstock was a blast. What were you riding? Don't remember if I met you or not. I was there with Shawn (aka Sanddude) and several others. I was also hanging with Bob some. Mostly hanging around the skinny dipping pond looking at the sites. Well some good and alot of nasty stuff..... I will be back in September.

Posted by: lvthoutdrs

We need help in maintaining trails at Crosstimbers(Draper). If the quad riders will help maintain the existing, we will be able to have more trails open to quads. The bike guys did most of the origional clearing, so they only cleared wide enough for bikes. If you can help, email myself or campnride and we will get you involved. There are some weed eaters available for us to borrow. We could use any bigger equipment like tractors or bobcats. Let me know when you can help and we will put you to work.

has anyone raced at portcity raceway in tulsa? mainly concerned about the mini quads for my son . they have a race on 9/14/07 i think. its oval and tt racing. went to 3draceway near muskogee and it was fun but he finished 3rd out of three racers who had modified 2 stroke and just killed him. he wants to do jumps so maybe the tt racing he might like. also need some oval track tires but the good ones are really expensive. need some 16'' tall for 8 '' rims . thank you very much.

Ronnie

Posted by: Brink74868

WOW!!!!!!!!!

It has been several months and 7 pages since I last visited the forum. I have been like everyone else probably. I am about 30% complete with the framing of the 7 acre arc. I am thinking about putting ATC tires from my old Honda 175 on the Grizz. Heck, the 3 wheeler floated with them on.

Between Spring Baseball, Fall Baseball, Football, work, reserving at the PD, and keeping Missy happy, I have only had time to recreationally ride for less than 2 hours this summer. I have burned about 3 tanks this summer working on the ball fields so it could rain before game time a half-dozen times this year.

Bob: You know I can't drink at the Grand. I CAN, however, drink at the brass pole place.

Mike: CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! I knew I should have went at the time. but then all of your screen time would have been replaced by a much more handsome and sexier critter and I couldn't do that to you.

EVERYONE ELSE: I am making a triumphant return to God Jumping at Sandfest. I am going up with a couple of friends on the 15th & returning on the 16th. If anyone else is going, give me a call or PM me and maybe we can meet up and put down a couple (dozen) frosty beverages.

Has anybody been to the S. Canadian off of Hwy 99 lately? Can you still get down there or has the construction blocked it off?

toe

Posted by: Bluegoose

Access to the south canadian river at 99/Rivermist is no longer available. All access from the road has been cut off. Only way to get on is by private land ownership. They have cut out the road going to under the bridge and now they are talking about putting up barriers.

Ronnie

Posted by: toehanus

Well, that stinks! Are there any other places to get on the river other than private land?

Crossbar Ranch did not sell. The city council voted to keep it open for recreation.
It is the best trail riding in the state. Has dry camping now, but it will get hookups if there is enough usage.
When you visit the ranch, go into town and let the folks see your rides. If you have not been there, give it a try.
Ask Brad about bypasses for the less skilled riders. There are ways around the hard stuff.

charlie

Have fun, ride safe and always wear safety gear. It is not an accident if it is planned for. We have enough trouble keeping areas open without someone planning a trip to the hospital by being careless and not wearing helmet, goggles, boots and gloves.

    Hey there Biggerbetter and Trailride,

I am coming back to life I went to the doctor and he shook some gourds at me, spoke some Latin, made a puff of smoke, and chrged me $322.17 so I guess I am gonna be well. I mean what more can you expect from modern science like that? Trailride I know I didnt go out, Aaron said he was taking his son out one day this weekend but I haven't heard back from him yet.

I know that there will be A LOT of people out hunting next weekend. I don't hunt but I am going to try to go camp with my uncle (Keith, club member) and do some riding saturday then come on home Sunday.

I would like for EVERYONE to try and think of time when and where we should all get together and meet in person. It can be a riding event or it can be a time and place where we all meet at a cafe or something and just get to know each other. So if you have ANY ideas please let me know.

    Bob

Yeah bring your two other pals in for sure. Word of mouth is one of the best forms of PR we can get.

Everyone can kind of start thinking about when and where we want to meet. I am good for just about amytime now that I went to the Witch Doctor and all that good stuff...I am possibly going to be camping (if all goes well) down in SE Oklahoma for deer season this weekend but after that I will have a lot of time to devote to the club and to getting everyone acquatined. So you guys be thinking where a good time and place to meet up would be.

      Bob

      Posted by: bearaf

Bigger I was going to start in the OCCRA races last year but tore both acl's right before the season started. I am a little over two months out of surgery on my last knee so I'll hopefully be good for this years races.
Bob, I am taking my son Sat either to Draper or out to the cimarron depending on how high the water is. Most likely Draper. I teach and coach wrestling and our season is just about to hit full swing after Thanksgiving so I will have only Sundays free due to tournaments except over Christmas break. But I am trying to get out as much as possible since I have been laid up for so long.

      Posted by: Bobman

      Aaron,

I know this weekend I will either be camping down in SE Oklahoma or will be quadless because I just hooked my trailer onto my uncle's truck and he is hauling the quad down for me so that he can let his wife ride his and he can take mine hunting.

My plans are to leave Friday night as soon as I get off work and ride all day saturday then come home saturday evening (leaving my quad for my uncle). So this weekend I will be "Quadless in OKC"

I really hope that we can all sit down face to face soon and meet in person. Seems like with Deer season and Thanksgiving and what not we are probably looking a week and a half to two weeks. But if anyone has any dates, places or ideas feel free to let me and everyone else know and we will try to find someway to get together.

Thanks for all of the input and interest,

Yes I did camp this weekend and I rode all day Saturday. The weather was 79 degrees and you could not have asked for a better day in SE Oklahoma. I was going up one really steep riverbank and hit an exposed root, threw my front end up and I almost rolled over backwards but for some reason I just slid back down. The river was too high to cross anywhere except regular bridges but I got a lot of riding done since the river was too fast to fish. I had to rescue some jeepers who had a dead battery, rode back to my camp and got my power pack and jumped them, other than that it was a really uneventful weekend.

This will give those who want to meet early and ride in the river ample time.

You can use Mapquest.com and type in the above address and it will give you very detailed driving instructions.

I will probably be down there again on Saturday unless it rains (Not a fan of deep water crossing on a sport quad ). In which case I will most likely go to Draper again. Regardless of temperature.

I went to Draper on Saturday and it was so nice out, there were 42,682 people out there.

Well...Maybe 42,681, but you get my point. BR>
Best part about riding when it's cold, is that all the wimps stay home, and I have the trails all to myself.
