Guys
I need some help.... I have a friend that wants a dirt bike, sport quad, or Utility quad for his 13 year old son for Christmas. His son has ridden dirt bikes before. He can spend $1500. Let me know if you know of any bikes or quads that will fit. I trust you guys, and would rather have my friend get it from someone we know instead of a stranger.
Hope everyone is doing well.

Just got back from crossbar ranch in Davis. Great place to ride. They now have 2 loops. a 20 mile and a 13 mile. Lots of hills, rocks, creek crossings, did I mentioned rocks. The manager is a great guy with lots of suggestions on where to ride. May be the best place in OK to ride!

lvthoutdrs,

What's the level of difficulty of the trails at crossbar? How would it compare to the old trails at Prague Lake? Thanks.

If the trails at prague were a 2, the 13 mile loop would be a 3 or 4 and the 20 mile a 6 or 7. There are a lot of elevation changes and rocks. That is what makes it more difficult. It is a much more technical area. Never boring! Great scenery from a couple of ridges. The only mud has a bottom of rocks, so you dont have to worry about getting stuck, but still have the challenge of a creek crossing followed by a rocky uphill. Not everyone will like it because it will take 2 1/2 to 3 hours to run the 20 mile loop on a quad and 2 hours on a bike.

Give it a try. You might like it, life is to short and there are a lot of trails yet to be ridden.

At 20 - 30 mile an hour speeds going anywhere, take a long time to go, very far. Took me an hour and a half to get from the Airport home Friday.

I may just terrorize the neighborhood tomorrow!!!!

Hey Guys,
I've found a new place to ride. It's a bit of a trip for most of you, but from what I've heard, it's worth the travel time.

Have any of you ever heard of a small town called "Osage" Oklahoma? It's on the Cimmeron River near Hwy 99. There are trails off the river plus you can ride for "miles" up the river as well. I have a friend who's mother lives right where we can access it, and if you like, she is also the owner of the only pub in town, which is also right on the river.

There aren't any motels, but she will allow us to plug into her electricity if we need too. I'm looking forward to trying this new "unpublisized" area out. Anyone interested in checking it out?

James

Posted by: TheSuzukiKing

Sounds AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm in.

Posted by: gsettle081

James
Go Lord Man...... Osage, Oklahoma is further north than Seminole...... Find us a motel, and pick a weekend. We will come up and ride with you and Jason just because we love you guys so much. How is the family?
Gordon

Posted by: campNride

Let me know when and I will see what I can do to go. Sounds like fun. Would be great if there was a motel near. Hit the pub hard after the ride. Hope you all stay safe during this great weather we are having.

Greg

Posted by: Brink74868

I very recently heard that there's a large plot of land east of town somewhat close to Sportsman lake trails has some trails that they're not quite ready to open to the public. I'll keep my ears to the ground and keep everyone posted.

Oh man i hope my head will still fit in my sweet ass helmet LOL.

Kevin, have they ever had a mud pit out there at the fair? Just wondering what kind of mud to expect, hopefully not to watery in the cold weather that i am sure we will be having in feb.

Posted by: Bobman

Jason is correct...

Jason did see me and I am alive and well.

I am going to tear up the neighborhood streets tonight on the snow and such.

Bob "I wish my quad had a heater" Bobman

Posted by: HavinSomeFun

Andy, it will be insde the arena. We had the pits last year for the tough trucks. bone stock 4 x 4s made it fairly easy.

Posted by: Jamesh921

There are two "real" towns close to Osage (about 5-7 miles away). They are Cleveland and Hominy Oklahoma and they have all the amenities like motels, grocery stores, gas stations, etc...

Below is a list of the motels I found. Nothing fancy - just your run-of-the-mill average small town motels.

Skylark Motel (918) 358-3523 823 W Caddo St, Cleveland, OK 0.50 mi

Budget Zzzz Motel (918) 358-3591 1209 W Caddo St, Cleveland, OK 0.75 mi

Victorian Inn (918) 358-3531 Po Box 563, Cleveland, OK 3.73 mi

Payless Inn (918) 885-4465 323 E Main St, Hominy, OK 7.46 mi

I do remember seeing the Victorian Inn. It looked pretty nice - and it has a resturant right next to it. All you can eat chicken for something like $5.49 with all the fixin's.

We're looking at going on the next decent weather weekend. Just going to have to watch the weather and see what happens.

Gordon,
The family is doing great. Our boy is 11 months old now. It's hard to believe its almost been a year.

Which day is the mud bogs going to be? I would like to go watch everyone get stuck. Just got done terrorizing the neighborhood with the quad. My boy went along for the ride also. He just loves doing donuts. He was hooting and a holloring for joy..... Man I can't wait till I can get him his own little quad. Little power wheels isn't quite the same. One of these coming weekends I would like to get with some people and go down to the crossbars ranch and ride. Next weekend I will be busy but maybe after that. Anybody else up for that place? Heard good things.

Andy "I fought the law and the law sucks" B>

I've been told if they have racks on them, considered farm vehicles. =O)

I think I heard that from Brute Force Bob.

Posted by: bruteforcebob

yes they are, and now that they are having people tag them you are paying excise tax which means it can go on any side road just no state highways. (dont understand why no highways, but works for me)

Posted by: TheSuzukiKing

Does this tax only apply to new ones?

He wouldnt have given me a ticket....heck his patrol car got side ways as he eased away from us....aint no way he could've caught us. And there aint no way I'd sit there n let him give me a ticket either. I wanted to tell him "go eat a donut or work a wreck but leave us alone." But since we were about to head inside anyways I didn't. And yes, we terrorized and went about everywhere there was to go in my neighborhood. Might have to venture somewhere else next time....

By Oklahoma Law, if it has "front and rear racks" it is an implement of husbandry (like a farm tractor). I have had troopers argue that with me, but the good book says what it says. As I was leaving the gas station in town, I saw a local representative pulling out of the PD. I didn't stick around to see if he wanted to turn on his lights or not. I just hit the 4WD button & I was but a memory. If I wasn't so close to the house & didn't know 99% of 'em, I would have enticed him to a parsoot.

I have read that as well in the law books. My question is, what would you do if you were given a ticket? In order to get it dismissed, would you have to prove that you were using it for farm purposes? Thanks.

the tax applies to all bikes, if you go down to the tag agency you can get a tag for like 22 dollars on a bike that you got before the new tax.

Posted by: Brink74868

toe,

Legislative intent comes to mind when contemplating fighting a ticket on this issue. I believe that it will boil down to what most trials hinge on: the judges opinion. If you were to get stopped between two of your properties, I would believe that you would be home free. If you got stopped in the middle of town riding a wheelie, it may not fly. I, being a part time cop, have argued this with several other officers and the field is pretty much split. Most feel strongly one way or the other.

I never met a white woman I didn't like
Farts are fun...sharts are difficult to expain
Street Kings STILL RULE!!!

Crossbar is nothing like a year ago. It will take a quad at least 4 hours just to ride the trails with no stopping.
Lots of camping spots. The best riding in OK for sure.

I am in Arizona and it is cold, but at least it gets into the 50's and no ice, so I guess the weather is OK.

I hate ice and cold weather.

I learned something tonight. You can overload your shower with too much red sand/ mud from Big Red ATV Park when you take your rain gear with you into the shower to wash them. I just finished taking about an hour long shower that consited of washin my boots, rain coat and rain pants. Then, washing the sides of the shower down cause of splatter, I finally got out.....only to put the stopper in the tub and fill it about 1/2 way up 4 times washin n rinsing the sand down the drain. The last 2 times were mainly just to make sure the sand got ran outta my line from my house to the main. I'm all pruney now.

Hey Bob, Its good to hear from you! I'm starting to fall into your "quads getting old never ridden" state! I'm relocating to AR so hopefully they will get lots of use. People in Edmond drive golf carts in their additions, in Arkansas it is quads and dirt bikes!

Mike, I'm here this weekend hoping to get snowed in so lets have a beer and ride in the snow! I shouldn't leave until Sunday, hopefully Monday if the snow is deep enough!

Now we're havin a typical crappy winter in Oklahoma. 33 degrees and rain...this blows!! Hopefully it'll turn into snow or sleet or whatever here soon.

Posted by: bruteforcebob

I was thinking earlier about how the different channels led thousands of oklahomans to go buy ice melt, snow shovels food, generators etc. etc. to get prepared for this "blizzard" of up to 12" of snow, I was thinking you know, these guys should have to appoligize when they screw up this big. something like this costs people a lot of money that they may have needed somewhere else and they spent it on crap they probably wont use this year. sorry to ramble just pisses me off when they do this crap! I'm just glad I didnt go buy all that crap! I drove by walmart today and saw people loading more food and water in thier cars than the car was worth! this is seriously wrong!

Bob,

I bet if those guys got paid on accuracy they wouldn?t be so quick to report something bad is about to happen just to be the first one to tell.

Too bad we didn?t get the snow, but we plan to be at Big Red tomorrow making lemonade out of lemons we were dealt.

Might just be the muddiest the park has ever been. BR>

And ridin in the mud doesn't sound like any fun.....not after I showered with my rain gear the other day. And Andy, I dont see a ride on sunday comin up here in a few hours.

Do any of you guys have any experience riding in the Ouachita Nat'l Forest in SE OK? Is it legal to just ride any of the county roads down there? Thanks.

Hunting parties of like 10 people....runnin dogs while hunting deer (not legal here in OK but legal in Arkansas). I was scared!! You live in Shawnee...why drive all the way down there anyways to ride??

I like the mountains down there. Mainly, it would be a new place to ride. Most of my riding around here is on my own land or at the S. Canadian river. I can't stand Draper and Big Red isn't real exciting for me. I haven't had a chance to get to Cross Bar yet. If you know of any other places near here, I'm all ears.

toe,
I am looking at heading down and trying out Crossbars in a week or two if you are interested. I just moved here from Washington state and am used to the woods and some elevation change while trail riding. When I do know for sure when I am going I will let you all know. I am heading out of town for 2 months here the beginning of next month some time. I would like to do some riding before I go. What about NW oklahoma? Riding areas up there? I also like your bike toe.... I got the same thing. Those trailboss's are tanks. I have beat mine to death and back and it is still ticking.... Hope you all enjoyed that HUGE snow storm.... That is right... RAIN STORM.

Not trying to change the subject, but I know there are some trailer experts on here and I have a problem.

To make a long story short, the jack on my trailer (the kind that you "wind" up) is screwed. We wound it all the way up and now it won't wind down. I hope you guys know what I'm talking about. I've tried putting extra weight on it and taking weight off of it, but it still won't wind down. Anybody know how to fix this?

Thanks,
James

Posted by: gsettle081

James
I had the same problem......

Get all the weight off the trailer and jack. Use a floor jack or bumper jack to get the weight off the jack. My jack was bent..... I had to have a come-a-long to straighten it out, and some WD 40. After it was straightened, it screwed back into place. If that doesn't work, go to Tractor Supply and get a Bulldog Jack. They can carry a LOT more weight than the factory jacks. My problem was caused because the jack with a wheel was too longt when extended down. I finally got a new jack that was shorter and it worked a lot better.

Call and we can discuss...... OR GO FIND JASON, AND HAVE HIM FIX IT. HAHAHA!!

Greg,

I'd be up for a trip to Crossbar. Probably can't swing it this coming weekend, but I should be free the weekend after that. The only places I know of for riding in NW OK are Little Sahara and Beaver Dunes. Never been to either.

Toe,
Sorry I meant NE Oklahoma. I have heard people talk about disneyland or something. Also isn't there some places over by the Arkansas border? Where do you work? I saw a guy on base by my work that had a trailer a couple weeks ago with a set up of quads similar to what you have. They also had the polaris military version. Talk about a heavy beast. I am looking at going down to the cross bars ranch in 2 weeks. That first weekend in Feb if anyone is interested. I will announce it again when it gets closer. Reading the website it sounds pretty cool. I am thinking of calling them to see how many miles of trails they have now. They say they should have over 100 miles by 2007. They also have camping there so this summer I think I will be there and Lake Murrey mostly. Well talk to you all later. Hope you enjoy the week of work coming up.

Greg

Posted by: toehanus

Greg,

The only places up there I know of are Disney, and there is a riding area up by Camp Gruber near Braggs, OK. I haven't ridden at either, but I know they're there.

I'm a teacher and I don't think I've ever been on the base, so it wasn't me that you saw. Unless my bball tourney is rescheduled for that first weekend in Feb, count me on in Crossbar. I read somewhere that they have put in quite a few new trails out at Crossbar. Don't know if they're at 100 miles yet, but they're getting closer.

hey kevin, my buddy darrell was wanting to know if he can enter his rhino in the mud bog and what it is gonna cost to enter?

Posted by: HavinSomeFun

Andy, sure he can. its going to be $20 - $25 per entry and the winner takes all. Should be $250 first prize along with whatever money/prizes I can come up with. Everyne who enters will leave with something.

Posted by: out18law18

also is it going to be a two day deal or just on saturday?

Posted by: bruteforcebob

Kevin, the hotrod is finally home, still sitting on the trailer for tonight, gonna unload it tomorrow. will give updates when I find out more.

Posted by: HavinSomeFun

Bob, glad you go your hotrod back. Nw if we can get your brute back!

Andy, one day, side by side mud pits and 5000 - 7000 people watching. Now that is a recipe for fun!!

I'll pm you my cell and home phone. Our phones and internet at school out out since the big fire during the ice storm.

I would be up for a trip to Osage, just want it to be a little warmer. I'm getting older and my blood is getting thinner. Don't want the water lines on the fifth wheel to freeze.

Just wanted to let people know that I stopped by Crossbars Ranch today to try getting some info and look around and they were closed. I called the number and the message said they were closed till approx the 1st of Feb because of flooding. I am planning on going down there next weekend if anyone is interested. It will be cold but some warm clothes will do the trick. On the way back up from Crossbars I took the family by Big Red in the grocery getter and almost got stuck. What a great look I got from the already happy wife..... She'll get over itDidn't ride there but it looked really muddy.

Posted by: campNride

I am planning on going down on Saturday. I am figuring around 10-11 get there. I am planning on going down with a couple other buddies so I gotta talk to them tomorrow. We are hauling the quads down on a 18' trailer so depending on how many there are in your group you might be able to jump in with us. Figure we can just all just split gas. I will try calling Crossbars over the next couple days and find out for sure that they will be open. I only got a recording when I called today. They said because of flooding. I don't know if the creek normally does it but as you pull onto thier property the creek runs over the road. Nice little creek fording in the minivan. That was fun. Down at the bottom booth they have a sign that said to call a number and not proceed without permission. Ofcourse I did not get any cell signal so I went up the road just a little ways. When I got the call and message I turned around. If crossbars is closed our backup plan will either be Lake Murrey or Big Red. Anyone interested in riding Crossbars this Saturday please let me know so we can figure out who all we will be meeting up with.

Just wanted to let everyone know that Crossbars will be open this weekend as of now. If they get much rain they will have to close again because of flooding out on the trails. I plan on being down there around 10 am in anyone is interested. As of right now there is 4 in my group with a couple maybe's. Make sure you call Crossbars before you head there just in case. Our backup plan will be to go over to Bigred and see andy. Take care and lets all pray for snow this time. I don't like whoever told the last snow storm to go away.

If interested PM me. I only have 10 spots available !!!!

I sure wish I was going to be around to see that. I leave town the 9th. Please take a video of it so I can catch up later. Try to stay warm out there this weekend.

Greg

Posted by: campNride

Well the trip down to Crossbars was a blast. The weather was beautiful. For those of you who haven't been I highly recommend it. There are 2 loops there. The big loop was like 30+ miles through the woods and up to some overlooks. Off that main trial there are many side spurs that go out. Most are unfinished trails that don't connect as of yet. It will take several hours to do that loop. There are several creek crossings along the way and a couple are deep. The south smaller loop was around 20 miles but is mostely just wide open flat trail that zigzag through field area. It would be great for beginners and the younger riders. There is a camping area that has a flat grassy area, pond, and picnic tables. There is 1 power pole right now and hopefully in the near future there will be more. Just waiting on the government so who knows how long that will be. The cost was $6.50 and that is the cost to enter the park. Everyone entering Crossbars pays that fee. Camping is free if you pay for 2 days of riding. The guy that runs it is a great guy that gives you a map when you get there and explains the trails and where the good stuff is. Crossbars is city property so no drinking and riding and you must wear a helmet and boots. The boots have to be motorcycle boots. I am a firm believer of the helmet rule. I thumped a tree yesterday that would have knocked me out cold if not wearing a helmet. If you have any questions just message me and I will answer any other questions you have.

Greg

Posted by: Wolfcop

Greg,
Thanks for the kind words. Glad you enjoyed the ride and hope the Mexican food was to you guys liking!
Just wanted to correct something you said in your post. Boots are required but they DON'T have to be motorcycle boots. Any boot over the ankle will work as long as they are tennis shoes, sandals, flip flops...etc.
Look forward to seeing you guys back at the park soon.

Brad

Posted by: campNride

Brad,
Thanks for the correction. I thought I put that but I must have erased the wrong section or something. Yes we did have a great time. The mexican food was great. Talk about fast service. We ordered and it wasn't more then 3-5 minutes and we were eating. I will see you the beginning of may when I get back in town. I am sure you will see my buddies soon. Take care.

MUD BOG UPDATE!

Hey everyone. Yes, it is a MUD only drag race. Afters tonights test run, it whoever goes the farthest. Helmets are not required. However, everyone will have to sign a waiver. I will need everyone at the fairgrounds between 6:30 and 7pm. Park wherever you can, unload your wheeler and park it in the grass by the gargage door. The door is left of the box office. Remember to bring cash, exact change is the best! If you show up after 7 no promises I can get you in!

Andy, Bob went the farthest tonight!

I think that we will all pass on the washing of any other wheeler. I spent 7 bucks at the carwash and my bike is "kinda" clean.

I just finished scooping about 20 pounds of mud from the bottom of my rear fenders and I walked to the front of my bike n looked at it and noticed my plastic front bash plate is sucked in right down the middle. Upon further investigation....I saw that the left front frame/ bumper has a good sized bend from the tow hook where they strapped on to pull me out. Has anyone else notice anything like this on thier bike where they got pulled out from?

nope, we all ride kawasaki's lmao ours arnt as brittle as yours, we only have wheel problems lol J/k , are you shure its your frame? or is it just your bumper?

Jason, my bike looks fine.

Bob is the tire okay? Or is it dead also?

I guess it would technically be the bumper. The lower part of the bumper.

yeah, the tire is fine, wheel is a goner. jason, is it bad, or just a blemish? also everyone check thier bikes good, who knows what else the freakin rocks did to our bikes in that deal.

hey, since you have this new found wealth I could probably fix ya up with a new bash plate for the right price Just ordered the wheel was 84.99 and got a CV boot while I was at it and it ended up being 102.00 with free 2 day air. so hopefully I'll be up and going again by the weekend.

we are riding friday at big red offroad park.

nathon, glad you found this place man! Bob....no problem....after all....I AM the Undisputed Oklahoma State Fair Grounds Mud Bog Champion of the World!! My wallet is fat baby!! I can handle it!! hahaha.......And Big Red on friday sounds good to me!

Posted by: bruteforcebob

lol its funny, the guy wins once and now he's grown 2 feet. its funny watching the video, after the monster truck goes through the lane, then andy drags his brakes comming out and darrel knocks the rest of the end off Jason (who insisted he go last) STILL almost gets stuck waaay before the spot where I blew my wheel, but finally makes it, says alot for the o'l grizzly. since everyone paved the way. hey, next year why dont we all chip in and buy him a yellow brick road so he doesnt have to get dirty, afterall its his wonderland but, I'm only chipping in if he wears the blue dress

Posted by: HavinSomeFun

He He Ha Ha. let the games continue until next year. I still want to know why no one wanted to go first?

Posted by: campNride

Bob,
Do you have the video linked yet so I can view it. I would like to see the mighty race. Take care and enjoy your ride this weekend.

I didn't insist on going last, I went in the number I was called. And I haven't grown 2 feet....I'm still my same ole towering 5' 6" that I always have been. The only change is I'm wearing the Championship belt baby!!! hahahahahha We went 2 rounds and some people came up short.....some people decided to have "mechanical" problems of some sort (BobmywheelbrokeMcGregor) and therefore have an "easy out" instead of manning up n sayin yer the Champ. Its okay....there will be a rematch amungst me n my friends. Till then.....I'm yer Undisputed Unbeatean Oklahoma State Fair Mud Boggin Champion of the World!!
