Hey fellas,
I've been reading your post for a couple of months, and thought i would introduce myself. I'm fairly new to oklahoma. I live in Elmore City. I'm from Jacksonville, Tx. Actually where the mud finals are at, coming up pretty soon. I don't think I'm going. I think it's going to be a little too crowded to ride.
My wife and I have been riding on our land but we are ready to venture out soon if we can get off work. we both work in the city quite a bit. I noticed that quite a few of you live around me, like in duncan. I hope your home is ok. I could see the smoke from the fire from my house.
look forward to hearing from everyone, charles
Posted by: okbeast
Yeah I heard that about 30 homes burned in around Duncan and Meridian and I also know of fires over in the Velma area so I hope everyone's ok.
Posted by: bruteforcebob
good to have you around charles. you need to get together with some of us sometime for a ride. I hope all of you down that way stay out of the path. the fire that was out by anadarko about a month ago burned up 500 acres of our woods and hay feilds bad deal. best of luck!

what time you thinking about going brent?
Posted by: EXTEX1
I have a polaris 400 and 500ho. I really haven't had as much trouble with them as a lot of people have been complaining about. Of course I've only had them a little over a year. I hate to admit it but if something did go wrong with them, I'm not a good atv mechanic. I may would have to ask ya'll or be at the mercy of the polaris dealership. I'm actually on my way to the city to work for 3 days. I go up there and work 3 12's and just sleep up there and then come back, and then most of the time I'm off for a few days, during the week. It various week to week. I really am interested in going riding at the rivers and lakes. I tried to find the river a couple of weeks ago in purcell but all I found was a train station. Next time everyone goes, if I'm off, maybe I can get directions and meet everyone.
Posted by: bruteforcebob
when you found the trainstation all you had to do was turn right take your first left across the tracks and head back north on the east side of the tracks and pick an entrance. the river will be on your right train tracks on the left.
Posted by: JeffGordonHater
Welcome Charles. I was born and raised on Ceder Creek Lake so I know whats it like to go from TX to OK, the military brought me here and dropped me off, but I cant complain, I really like it now. We might be riding in Purcell next Saturday if your interested, if so it is not that hard to get there, you come real close when you got to the train station.

Hello Central Oklahoma ATV Club,
My name is Greg and I will be moving to the area this fall. I have been looking at your web sites and reading the messages you all right. Looks like a great group of people and can't wait to move to the area to follow all of you to the great riding areas. I enjoy trail riding and playing in the mud. Right now I only have a utility quad but will hopefully be getting a raptor or a new Outlaw later this fall when I get settled in. We are looking to move to the Moore area. I have heard you guys like to camp and fish also. Sounds great. I just got a camper and the father-in-law is giving me his old bass boat to go do some fishing. Take care and ride safe this weekend.
Greg

Sorry Trailride the lovin part in my name was not for you.

LOL i thought that maybe you were a secret admirerer (sp) or something
Posted by: bruteforcebob
lmao thats hilarious whats the chances of these guys having the same name and avatar lmao
Posted by: bruteforcebob
good to have you on Greg, what kind of utility do you have ? when are yall planing on moving down here ? unlike these "OTHER" guys I ride almost every weekend lol
Posted by: Trailridelovin
Well I do have to admit I did snag his beer drinking picture. I did like that. I will just go find a better one..... Hope you all have a great day of riding. I currently ride a polaris 330 2x4 that works good on the trails. I used to ride a 250r and a 400ex. They just weren't the trail bikes for me. I got tired of always having to pull myself out of the mud. I want to get another sport bike after I move there. Preferably a Raptor or the new Outlaw. They atleast have reverse and can haul. Well take care. Sorry trailride for stealing your icon

I am in the Navy up here in Washington. I will be moving down there to Tinker. There is a small group of us navy type there on the base. I should be down there in October. Just in time for it to cool off. Unfortunately I am down right now waiting on parts. The retards sent me someone elses parts and mine are who knows where. The guys keeps such great records that he threw away all our info so he has to wait for the guy to call saying he got the wrong parts. Talk about frustrating. Take care.
Greg

That's what I figured. I just got out of the Navy, I was with VQ-3, what squadron are you going too? If you got any questions about anything down here, PM me and I will help you out.

Yes I am using a new account name. I didn't like how close mine was with trailride either. I am trying to figure out how to get my pictures onto my page. All the pics say they are to big. Now I need to figure out how to minimize the size. Steve, I will be going to the school house there to teach. Thanks for the offer of help. You will probably hear from me. How long were you there in VQ-3? Did you know Ray Walters. He was a AME1 that worked Maintenance Control a few years back. Thanks everyone for the warm welcome to the forum. Everyone take care and have a good weekend.

I drove out to Purcell this morning after work. I found the river. Thanks for the directions. I passed a couple of guys hauling kawasakis on the way out. Maybe if I can get a day off soon then I'm going to try and go out there.
thanks again

Allright, my house is being invaded by women on saturday, so lets plan a ride. Prague or Murray would be great, so lets get a game plan going. this might be a great chance for a clean up ride like bobby suggested. Come on lets even get the BOBMAN out there!
Andy "save me" Bradfield

Bobman would love to go but Bobman has to work. It's a lonely job keeping the internet up and running while others frolic and play...Did I just say Frolic and Play? Did I just say that while I was listening to a Ricky Martin CD? No not really...but I do have to work on Saturday.

Brent, It would have to be this weekend. I'll have baseball during the Murray trip. I also may take Collin up to Little Sahara at the first of the week for a day or two. I keep promising I'll take him so hopefully the first part of the week won't be to busy.

Okay guys what is it like riding????? I'm stuck right in the middle of the State 4-H/FFA Livestock show. We are having fun showing and all that stuff but I really wish I was riding in my Sandrail or on the river on the Grizz. I now know why i live in the country. Well I already knew why, it has just became more real this week. I hate the city!!!!!
Driver how was the dunes?? I really hate to ask since it was 80 degrees plus and I'm at the stock show but I have to know.
I'm going to Little Sahara on Easter weekend no matter what. I'm actually going on Wednesday of that week. I need to look at some cattle in Waynoka so I should go a day or two early if you what I mean.
Tell me how it is guys.

Just got back from Little Sahara yesterday, it was GREAT! The dunes are huge and it wasn't busy at all! There were more people coming in for the weekend as we were packing up to leave, but there were still lots of open spots.
Aaron
Posted by: trailride
Aaron, Did it get kinda cold monday night? I sure wish i was going to LS this week.
Brent
Posted by: bearaf
Brent,
It got down to 21 but there was no wind! I took my propane heaters and it was nice and toasty. Since there was a fire ban, I think Abby and I were the only ones outside at night. If we wouldn't have had the heaters we wouldn't have made it! They worked as well as a campfire without the smokey smell. I had a small one in the tent and could have done without blankets. It was a great trip, just wished I could have stayed longer.

anybody up for prague lake this saturday?? might still be muddy by then LOL

Just got back from little sahara...Besides the rain it was awesome this year....they had the drag strip open...the duns were huge...it was a good time...
Posted by: bruteforcebob
I'm thinking that I may be up for a little mud time.
Posted by: EXTEX1
Hey, I was thinking about riding tomorrow at the river in Purcell. Is it better at the river after a rain or worse?
Posted by: bruteforcebob
it will probably be pretty deep, I sank mine a couple of weekends ago there and I have snorkels! couldnt imagine how deep it will be tomorrow after all this rain
Posted by: EXTEX1
ok thanks, I may wait a while. I'm watching these tornadoes on tv. As soon as the burn ban is lifted then we get these.
Posted by: bruteforcebob
I went over the river this evening on my way to ardmore river was pretty full too full for me lol
Posted by: EXTEX1
Oh well, I've learned in the short while that I've been in o.k., that the weather will change soon. So I imagine that it won't be long till it dries up again. I've got some trash here at the house I need to burn today, anyways, it's been piling up on me for three months. (outside of course, lol ).
Posted by: bruteforcebob
yeah its full enough that a guy could kayak it and have fun! lol
Posted by: EXTEX1
If it was 100% guaranteed that I would'nt dump over in the freezing water, then I probabley would try it.

I love to take my kids riding with me. But i also like to go just with the wife and friends. Its my 2 year old that really loves to ride. Should have seen her on the back of my quad at big red a few weeks ago.
Just to remind some of you, I am planning a ride @ Lake Murray April 21,22,23 . I hope we have a turnout like last years Murray ride.
Brent
Posted by: bruteforcebob
yeah, I ended up buying this bike for my daughter and there went the mud nats money lol but hey, it gives me more time to get an RV for next year. I've been looking for a old moto 4 for her and finally found one, its a 1985 model 80cc moto-four, the rearend was good but the bearings are out, so yesterday I had them overnight shipped from Japan.(otherwise it would have been a 2-3 week wait. put a new clutch in it,adjusted the valves and after I put the bearings in the rearend tonight should be like a brand new quad. in total I'll have probably 450-500 in it. and its in super shape for 20 years old lol

Aaron,
That was John Carlisle - and he'll be tickled pink to have a vidoe of him on the internet. I'll let him know you put it up. Good ridin' with you sunday. Too bad you had to leave early. Look forward to riding with you again.
Brent,
You guys passed us on the way out. We went to the parking lot and got Dave's Arctic Cat going again. It turned out to be the main 30 amp fuse (the only one we didn't check out on the trails). Mike's the one who figured it out. He's pretty handy to have around.
Anyway, we had gotten off the trail and ridden down next to the lake. We saw you guys go by and yelled, but you guys didn't hear us. We rode for a couple more "interesting" hours before heading home. We all had a blast and I'm going to try to make the Murray ride. Maybe this time we can sit around the campfire and knock a few back.

Okay Guys,
Anybody up for Little Sahara over the Easter weekend? I'm goin on Tuesday night the 11th and staying until Suday afternoon on the 16th. I haven't been since October and I'm having the need for a trip. I'm going to try to rip up the sand before all the crazies get there on Snake Hunt the next weekend. We will be in Cowboy camp, probably near the restrooms/showers. If you are in the neighborhood stop by and have a cool one.
5 days on the sand what could be better?

Well this doesn't exactly fit here, but all the OK guys see it and there's no state forums. I bought a 2000 400ex today and I LOVE it! Plenty of power to carry my skinny frame around, great suspension and handling. I'm very impressed

That's what I had heard over and over that that's one key point that sold me on it. It should be one heck of a fun summer, I can't wait!
Posted by: bruteforcebob
where are you from ?

I'm at school in Stillwater right now but will live in Duncan over the summer. We've already got a few trips planned to Little Sahara, and Duncan is only about 40 minutes away from the Red River.
Posted by: bruteforcebob
if you get a chance you might want to hit the south canadian, I think you'll like it more, theres not near as much quick sand lol
Posted by: okbeast
Yeah I've heard it's alotta fun too, what route do you take to get down to the river?
Posted by: okbeast
Oh, and I am looking for a factory 4 x 144 rim for the 400ex, it has one that is slightly bent and it pulls a little so I want to get that fixed. If anyone has one for sale or knows of a good place to get I'd appreciate it! Thanks

Call Brian at Brian's ATV in Oklahoma City-(405)636-0288, tell him that Michael sent you. He's got tons of stock and aftermarket parts for almost anything.....
Posted by: bruteforcebob
I usually get on at purcell, just take main down to the trainstation, turn right, follow the gravel till your first left across the tracks, then it will put you on the other side of the tracks and just follow it north till you find a spot you want to enter at. I usually go to the very end of the gravel road and exit. seems to be the smoothest spot to pull a trailer in.
Posted by: Yamota
Posted by: okbeast
Probably down at St. Joes, plannin to hit Little Sahara twice this summer, and peoples land I know around town. Me and a buddy are going to build a few jumps at his land and have a little fun.
Posted by: Jamesh921
Well, here we go again. Did anyone see on the news tonight about the 12 year old boy from Wewoka who got killed on his ATV. He rolled it and died of head injuries. After the news anchor reported on the story, he went on to tell us all about the legislation that will require helmets for anyone under 18 and so on and so on. They interviewed Brian from Brian's ATVs and he said he supported it.
Just wondered if anyone saw it.
James
Posted by: bruteforcebob
I didnt see anything about it, so what they were saying is he wasnt wearing a helmet? my daughter wears a brain bucket if she's just going to sit on it. now the big question which they wont say on TV, how big of a quad was he on? betcha it was too big for him to handle, lately everything I've seen on TV the kids were really young on a 400+cc quad that was waay too much for them, it drives me nuts! what kind of a parent would put thier child on a bike thats too big for them(not by factory standards) but by real standards. and after the publicity we've had lately why in the HELL would you put your kid on a quad without a helmet????
Posted by: Brink74868
It was a Kodiak.. It didn't say what size, but I think it's around a 400
Posted by: okbeast
400 seems a bit big for a 12 year old but that's just my opinion, and I'm not even a parent.
Posted by: bruteforcebob
last time I went to prague I saw a kid on a kodiack couldnt have been more than 8 and his parents had him riding it, I will admit that he made it to the very end of the technical trails on it with no serious mishaps, but even still he shouldnt have been on it. he was bouncing off rocks and his feet couldnt even touch the floorboards. impressive in the fact that he was a good enough rider to make it back there but still I cant believe they put the child on a 400cc 4x4 and just told him to let it rip.

Mike Waldron (Suzukiking) and I are going to ride "somewhere" on Sunday. We're leaning toward Purcell, but not for sure yet. It's either there or Big Red's. Anybody want to hook up with us is welcome to come along.

PS My van and pick-up are in bad need of new tires. Anyone know a good place to buy with decent prices?
Posted by: bruteforcebob
james the best place for tires is LWM tire in norman I've searched all over the state and thats where we get the tires for the cars on the lot
Posted by: out18law18
I agree with bobby on LWM for tires also i think that if hibbdon's has buy three get one free still on certain tires it comes out to a pretty good deal and might be worth looking into.

The wife and I took the four wheelers off our land yesterday and went to Purcell. We're both hooked on outings now. It was great. We rode all over that river and I'm pretty sure we did'nt hit all the trails. There's a new place that has opened up about two miles from my house, here in Elmore City, called Salt Creek ATV Trails. They said it's two hundred and something acres. I have'nt tried it yet but we may go down there next week.

Brent,
At least it is not going to 100+ degrees this weekend.
Gosh it was hot at Little Sahara and the wind blew like a hurricane on Saturday so we just went home.
There was some good riding on Thursday and Friday, well at least before I T-Boned a Raptor. Stupid idiot was sitting over the crest, on the face of Buttercup, sitting side ways with his engine stopped. Said he didn't think anybody would be coming. Luckily nobody got hurt or nothing got broken. I'm sure he needed a new pair of underwear.
All in all it was fun, but I'm ready to ride the river at least I can see the idiots that are there.

Mike thinks Maxxis Bighorns. Sure some sweet tires, would like some more aggressive for my quad. How to you like then and have you had them rock climbing yet?
Posted by: trailride
Mike, The bighorns are awsome. Have not really did any rock climbing to speak of , but they were made for that app. I do know they wont wear easy, they ride 100% smoother than any tire i have had. And they do a decent burn out also.

Talked to a friend of mine John tonight, he is interested in the 27's. I'm probably going to do the same. Anything I should worry about, like spacers? Gonna get a clutch kit anywho, cause tired of my belt slipping. They have one for me, bigger springs heavier weights.
I've did internet searches on these tires, hear nothing but AWESOME things about them.
Everyone I've ever met at the river has been so kewl. Pretty neat going out and hanging with new people all the time. James and I ended up hanging around some 4x4 trucks, watching them breakdown, get stuck and eat up that gas. We figured every dohnut they did must have cost at least $5.

This is kinda funny
OKLAHOMA CITY -- A police standoff ended early Tuesday with metro police discovering there was nobody in the house they were monitoring.
A seven-hour standoff near Southeast 59th Street and Bryant Avenue started as a drug investigation of a home in the area. Officers said they were worried about activity in the house, and they called for a tactical team.
For hours, according to reports, they tried to make contact with anybody in the house.
At about 3:30 a.m., agents approached the house but found nobody inside. A search of the area did not turn up any culprits; however, agents remain in the area looking for leads.

Ive had a set of 26" Bighorns for 2 years (about 3000 miles). Most of the riding was in the southern california and western arizona deserts. Lots of rocks and they do a great job. Best tires I've ever had on a quad. They are on my 700 Sportsman, not the Predator.

I'm goin with a group down to Red River May 10thish. I'd like to ride the Canadian and Cimarron sometime too.

Shad,
We ride the South Canadian south of Seminole. We get on the river at a place called the "Rivermist". Sometimes we get on at a private access down by Holdenville called "Crow's Place". And there are many guys on this forum that get on the South Canadian in Purcell, Oklahoma. Where do you ride it? I've heard that you can get on in Norman, but I've never gotten on there.
We also ride other places like Prague Lake, Big Red's Offroad Park and Lake Murray - as well as other places like southeastern Oklahoma and Mena, Arkansas. But, the South Canadian is a blast.

If you're entering near the bridge at Highway 48, be careful.... My "Great" (actually not so great) uncle owns land on the east side of the bridge & won't even let me access the river from there.. He HATES atv'ers of all kinds and has been known to get into many pissing contests with people who even dare cross by his land IN the river... I hate it that there are people like that, and hate it even more that my great aunt had to marry one of them...

Well, we went to Mudstock and man did we have a blast. I know some folks think that $50 for this event is pretty high, but when you factor in that $50 allows you full access to the park from Thursday to Sunday, plus the fact that it pays for the entry fee into any/all events, and that they have live music every night, it's really not that expensive. Primitive camping is also incluuded in that $50 and they do have showers available and a bike wash. Including food and drinks, I spent $130 over the weekend and really had a blast. To me, it was worth it and I plan on going again. They said they "might" host another one in September. If they do, I plan on going. It'd be cool if we could all go together. I know you guys would enjoy it.
For ATVs, they had 2 trail races, 2 mudbog races and a barrel race over some moguls. The barrel race was hillarious. One rider went over the handle bars twice (hehe). It was funny and we got pictures of him upside down over the bars. Even so, he still won 2nd place. Pretty good huh? And just in case you're wondering, no, it wasn't me BR>
All in all, it was one of the best events I have ever attended. And even though we only attended 2 days (friday and saturday), I definately got my money's worth. I'm already looking forward to the next one.
I hope everyone else had a great weekend too.

Mudstock at Sparks was a blast! I'm still diging mud out of my ears. I wasn't able to borrow the 660 I won with last year. The owner (John) said I wasn't going to beat him again with his own ATV. So, I rode the ArticCat 400 and the 440 Yamaha. John made sure to let everyone who would listen that he beat Dave. I ended up with the 3rd overall trophy. Just so everyone knows, I'm the one that ended up over the handlebars (twice), but I never was upside down, and I still took second. If I could figure out how to put a photo here I would.
As for the cost, $50 for the weekend if you want to compete in any event. $30 for the weekend if you just want to ride around and watch. When it is play time, even those who only paid the $30 can play in the mud. You can bring you camper at no cost, if you want electric and water hookups it's $90 for the weekend. You can bring your own food and drink, but there was plenty of food vendors and beverages were only a buck.
They might have the event again on Labor Day weekend. If they don't you can check out the MUDSTOCK event at Ft Smith on August 11 - 13.
The mud is just good "clean" fun.

If this was the case, then 90% of oklahoma was missinformed. I would have went for 30$ to ride and watch. But here is how it went last year.
1. RV site 60$ a night. Primitive camping free.
2. 50$ per rider ,competeing or not
3. if you had a camper and all of the elec. sites were full you could not use your generator.
4. They did have a day pass they called it for the night parties, $15
5. not organized for crap. You would go 4 hours at a time with no action.
Im sure it was better this year, but i never heard of a 30$ watch and ride. I e-mailed Tony " the owner of this land" about the prices for non competitors but never got a response. He would and could have had alot more spectators if he would get his crap together. But i bet it was a muddy mudstock compered to last years.
Brent

""But i bet it was a muddy mudstock compared to last years.""
Brent,
You got that right. Friday was a little muddy, but Saturday it was nothing but mud, mud, mud everywhere. For those who like the mud, it would have been a dream come true.
Yea, from what I hear I guess they changed the rules and prices alot from last year. Since last year was their first year to host the event, I reckon' they learned a few things and changed it around to make it a little more reasonable for more people to attend. Hopefully they'll continue that trend.

Prague City council meets every second monday of the month. at 6pm. I cannot be there for this but some of you others can. there were 8 horse riders showed up last time and thats where we were shut down. we MUST take this riding area back. Btw, James hale, you made an impression on the city manager he brought your name up several times. he seems to think that when the city realizes the revenue they are losing for the atv riders that they will open it back up till then its up to us to kick and scream and hollar till we get our way!

Posted by: TheSuzukiKing
Prague will always be very special to me, where I flipped my quad and turned it into nothing more then a collapsed, bent, wadded up quad. James Hale threw his wench over a tree to get me somewhat bent back into shape, where I could ride the rest of the day with handle bars bent at a 45 degree angle, and about 50 Zip ties, several bruises and hurt neck, I was back in business.
I am going to do my absolute best to be there Saturday morning, I just need a time I have to show up. I have a monster file server to migrate to a new SAN this weekend, but after getting this bad news, I started working on it today. I am going to work the weeeeeeeee hours of the morning till I get it done, if all is well. QUAD FEST at Prague Saturday morning. I've told my brother and his friends of the bad news, so more then likely be riding Prague Lake next weekend with him, if were not moving someone.

I talked to the City Manager (Jim Thompson) earlier today and he said he was NOT against the ATV trails, but that there have been several complaints concerning the ATV group. What I gathered from our conversation was"
a) There is a legal suite filed against the City by one of the homeowners near the ATV trails because of the noise. Some of the City Councilmen are somewhat concerned about it. Even though the suite has NOT gone to trial yet, some of the Councilmen have begun to feel that this suite may have some merrit. But, only because they have only heard from the few people who are submitting negative responses. No one has stood up in favor of the ATV trails.
b) It has been documented that someone cut the fence near the rear of the trails and not only crossed the dam of the lake, but climbed up and down it. The Fish and Wildlife Administration will immediately shut down the lake if the dam begins to show ANY signs of deterioration.
c) Some of the equestrian riders have voiced their concern that they have problems loading/unloading their horses while ATVs are coming in and out of the parking area. They have contacted the City Council and requested that the ATVs be removed from using the trails completely. This could be avoided if there were seperate loading/unloading areas for ATVs and equestrian riders.
d) Litter and the lack of "self-policing" has also been reported. Some folks are littering the trails with trash, plus making unauthrized trails. The lack of self-dicsipline of a few reflects on us all.
With that said, please remember that the City Manager is only conveying what he has been told. He is NOT against the ATVers, or their use of the trails. As a matter of fact, he has made absolutely NO RECOMMENDATION to the city council to close the trails to ATVers. It has been the city council who has determined that they should close the trails to the ATVers. The City Manager is a fair guy who wants both groups to be able to co-exist, but he is not the governing body - the city council is, and it is they who must be convinced to keep them open.
Until now, the city council has heard from the "few" people who oppose the ATV trails - they have NOT heard from the 95% (or more) of those folks who have no problem with sharing the lake. So, what happens next is really up to us. What do you plan to do to save your riding area?
Posted by: out18law18
James let me know what i can do to help our cause. As suzuki king stated prague lake has a special place in my heart as it is the first real trail that i ever rode back when i had a 400 ex. I think a petition that could be placed at all the local motorcycle shops might be a good idea and if others agree i would be willing to take them around and pick them up in a couple of weeks or so. I would need someone else to make them as i have no printer.
Secondly i think that everyone that can needs to go ride at prague these next two weekends and let them see how much money they are really making. No excuses! I think that i will be going this saturday and next saturday to show my support of one of our best riding areas in the central part of the state.

Being a former City Councilman myself, I can offer some advice.
The one thing that gets the attention of the City Council is to make their phone ring. Petitions will absolutely help, and I thinks it's a good idea to circulate a petition, but it's the actual one-on-one phone call that will get more reaction from the Council.
I would also suggest a "Rally" at Prague Lake and bring everyone you know. Invite the media (newspaper, TV and radio) and let them know that the ATV community is losing valuable riding areas. Show them that we are not the bad apples we are sometimes made out to be. You'd be surprised at what the newsmedia will be willing to cover if you just ask.
Bring everyone you can get (even if they don't ride ATVs) to the next City Council meeting. Fill City Hall with people and you will get a reaction, most likely one in our favor.
But before you do all this there is one thing that must be accomplished first. We must organize and appoint a committee from our group as spokespersons. Without leadership, and supporting those leaders, it's just a chaotic jesture. And above all, everyone must be committed to being united on this project.
One other thing I would suggest is to contact ARRA. They are a strong advocate to have on our side and saving riding areas is one of their specialties.
