Friday morning.... My favorite time as it is PLANNIG TIME for the weekend.
Are we still riding next weekend at Antlers?
Where is everyone riding THIS WEEKEND? Let me know so we can plan accordingly. (load and go)
Gordon "TGIF so we can ride" Settle

Posted by: bruteforcebob

Well I got my winch installed last night wasnt near as bad as I thought it would be besides the fact that the stupid directions arnt worth a flip the kit itself is self explanatory.

Posted by: allballz

what's the deal with antlers (the lonely part of our state). ready to tackle some new terrain.

Mike (Jade told it how it was at the river) Schultz

Brent,
Are you all riding sunday? Jade has been on me to ask. She (like her dad) is tired of riding alone she said. Wants to know if your bringing your girl.

In case anyone wonders why I haven't made any plans as of late......

Where I work, we have 4 shifts of 12 hours to fill the 24 hour schedule... I will be beginning my 3rd shift in 5 weeks on Sunday. I will again be a day dweller, but I will be making more as I got a raise. I am confused as whether to be happy or not. Once again, My body has been screwed over again so I will again not make any plans for a great distance in the future.

Brent,

I am still interested in the long distance ride to Eufala if old man river ever lets up. BR>

Posted by: GrizzlyGreg

we will be out at lake murray this next weekend july 15th 16th and 17th
hope you all can come have some fun.

Posted by: trailride

Mike, Sorry didnt see your post till this morning. We do plan to ride @ purcell next sunday with the little ones. There is plenty of easy trails for Hailey .

Has anyone seen the fliers for MUDSTOCK at Sparks ? I have one and it looks to be a good time. It is a 4x4 and atv event , with mudbogs and rock crawling. It is July 22-24 . I plan to camp Friday and Saturday night. It is kind of steep @ 30$ a person but that is for the entire weekend. Im sure they will have day passes also for 15$. If this is anything like the Sparks bike rally then it will be a blast. It is also a 21 and over event.

If anyone is interested in the Sparks Mudstock event contact me for more info.

Brent

Posted by: Brink74868

Brent,

You can access information on this at Sparks America Home Page (pay particular attention to the "pictures" tab and then "Adult oriented Pictures" tab . You can also access the site for the mud nationals at Click Here Dummy.

Feel free to stop in & see me Sunday, as I will be working until 6pm. I'll be the chode in the white car sitting under the big red & blue lightbar sweating my nads off.

Wow $50 to register a quad and rider for the weekend? Kinda of steep for me.

Posted by: okbow68

Yeah pretty steep and not considering that there was a death at the latest motorcycle rally that they had there a couple of weeks ago.

Posted by: allballz

don't jump to conclusions. there is alot of the story the paper and the news left out . like his BAC was .45. this does sound like a good chance to watch some of the extreme action. he has brought in alot of rock for the event like 2500 tons of rock for the climbers

kevin i should be down at purcell at about 1 pm. If you remember bring my jean jacket in case i run into your group.

Posted by: Bluegoose

Guys,
The river is down. You can ride all the way from Rivermist to Purcell. It is 76.7 miles. We rode it on Friday. There was 7 of us that made the trip. The youngest rider was 10 and the oldest was 60. As usual they is some deep holes. We made it all the way without drowning out any of the quads. We camped out about a mile south of the Bridge at Purcell/Lexington on Friday night and then opted to haul back home on Sauturday morning instead of riding back. They was alot of miles that hadn't been seen by anything except deer between Wanette and Purcell. There was no other 4 wheeler tracks for miles. There is 7 sets of tracks now. We will riding east from Rivermist today about noon.
Ronnie

Posted by: out18law18

The river was great today! Just right for 4x4 quads. still a little to deep for sports eventhough i saw at least 5 of them there. The fat cat was really in its element out there. l8r

Posted by: TyShark9

Anyone going to be riding this weekend? Are we still allowed to ride at the river in purcell? I haven't read the board in a while, so fill me in if anything major has changed.

Posted by: bruteforcebob

Well I just bought wheels and tires off ebay ... they are called Super Grip ? havnt heard of them but they shure look good... they are a remake of some ITP's ... anyone know anything about them the tread is a little bit farther apart and they are a runflat tire

I've never heard of them.....but tires are hardly rocket science these days...they are probably pretty good ones. I bet you do well with them.

Posted by: okbow68

Are those the copies of the Mudlites that you are talking about? If so I have seen them on another board and they looked pretty good.
Rode at Rivermist yesterday and if you go about 1 and 1/10 mile west of the bridge there is a ford ext cab truck stuck 'bout an 84-86 model they had a tractor down there and couldnt get it out. dont know if they will get it out or it will be a victim of the river.
Right in that same area where the old railroad crossed the river if you know where I am talking about there is supposed to be an old locomotive way down in the sand from years ago that they could never get out, but there is no telling where it is now. Buried deep somewhere.

Posted by: bruteforcebob

yeah they are almost exactly like mudlites talked to a guy on yahoo that has them on his BF and he said it took alot of the shimmy out of the front end and they ride great and I quote he said .... Mud? what mud ?lol they are under super grip on ebay yall ought to check them out ... the wheels look killer and the whole package is cheap cheap cheap

Does ANYONE want to have a meeting???????

It has been forever since there has been a meeting. Riding, non riding or otherwise we need to have a meeting. I have to say that if you all want to have it on a weekend I will not be able to attend but Brent will be there and I am sure that Mike N will be there as well. We have a lot of new members like Bruteforce Bob and others that I have never met (and unless we schedule the meeting for a Tuesday night I may not meet for quite some time) But I think that we should have a meeting of some sorts pretty soon.

Bob "What do you guys think?" Bobman

Mike, Do you mean the weekend of the 30th ? That is when i plan to ride purcell with Hailey.

Steve, Mudstock is a 3 day event but will still cost you the same for a weekend pass as for a one day pass. 30$ per person and 20$ for the quad. The 20 $ is for any off road vehicle that enters the park. It is a bit of a rip off that it will cost me 100$ just to enter the park with my wife and 2 quads. It had better be the best 4x4 event for this kind of cash.

Well I got to see some females with little to no clothing and some of the same girls over and over. All in all it was not worth the money I spent . Only about 10-15 trucks and several quads, but after the trucks go through the mud the quads dont really stand a chance of making it .

On another note. James's brother-in-law Dave got 1st place in the timed mud drags. Good job dave that course wasnt easy. His name on here is Superdave.

He also took 1st place in the Obstacle Course race. And John Carlisle (our Lake Ranger) took 2nd in the Mud Bogs. Is that cool or what?

I wanted to go, but this weekend was my 6 year anniversary. But, I DO plan on going next year. Dave and John said they had a BLAST!!!

James
CONGRATULATIONS ON BEING MARRIED 6 YEARS!!! I never would have thought anyone would put up with you or Jason for 6 years.

Congrats to Dave!! I wish you guys would post some pictures.
MAYBE WE SHOULD HAVE AN OBSTABLE COURSE IN OKLAHOMA. We could also have a sled pull. We had an XCountry race, mud bog, sled pull, and tetter-totter thing for the kides here in Texas last month. It was a BLAST.

Glad some of you are at least getting to ride. It has been SOOOO hot here, Ginny has not rode much this summer, (which means I can't ride too much, as my leash is only so long.)

Gordon" I wish we could ride more"Settle

Posted by: SuperDav

I'll agree with Brent, Mudstock at Sparks wasn't as exciting as I thought. I found the event coordinators and found out that this was the first year at this location. They were hoping for 1500 on Saturday. I think there was a little over 800 there. The Mudstock event is a traveling event and the next one is in or around Little Rock AR in about 3 weeks.

Brent and James are both right, I took first in the mud drag beating John Carlise by .4 sec. In the obstacle course I was 11.+ sec ahead of second. Now that was 2 and half minutes of pure fun. If you know anyone who was taking pictures (of this event) send them my way please. Oh, I was riding John Carlise 660 Grizz. I don't know how it was set up, I think it had mudlites on it.

After the events and later in the day it was just playtime in the mud.

On Sunday there were three timed events for ATVs but I didn't go back.

Having Super fun in the mud Dave

Don't worry, I won't get up on that.

Guys, the river kicks 37 kinds of ass right now. It's way down, lots of places to jump, and TONS of places to open it up and let fly for long stretches. I only got stuck once, and that could have been avoided (Same place I've gotten stuck before). Aaron didn't even come close to getting stuck on his puddle-jumper.

Some of the best riding I've ever done, even if I feel like I fell up a flight of stairs right about now.

What in the world is going on in here. Where is your truck Jason? Mine is bigger than Christies, but she wont let me ride hers anymore. 5 mins a day of riding mine is plenty, so i dont have to mess with hers. The only time hers gets any use is when she washes it, and thats not very often. And now mine is starting to leak.

Brent" will be riding @ Purcell Sunday" Storie

Well,
It is Summer & that means that it's time to do the ol' yearly trade in. The Avalanche was beginning to surface some issues. Things were beginning to fall off & quit working SSSOOOOOO, we traded it in for a Mercury Mountaineer. The Mountaineer has a smaller receiver hitch so I will need to yet again buy some new trailering accessories . I also need a smaller trailer that I can trust. I will get it all going pretty soon, so don't worry about me, I'll be fine in a couple of days.

On a different note,
Since Missy don't have one, Mine is definately bigger than hers. Also, Mine is 4 or 5 times bigger than either Brian's or Trevor's.

Brent,
The trip to Eufala???? I will not be able to attend from August 17 to about August 25th or so, But I'm ready ot try & tackle it.

Not sure how it will be Monday, but last week it was low enough for a little ol' 90 kids quad to cross at will.

Do you know how to get to Purcell?

Posted by: matttastic

i know how to drive down i35 and get near it???

Posted by: matttastic

also, is it all sand??? should i leave the paddles on or put the dirt tires back on?

Posted by: nukeim

I ride with dirt tires because most of the sand is fairly packed...But a lot of folks ride with paddles.

To get there:

From I-35 (Southbound) take the first Purcell Exit (exits to the left) and Proceed south on Green St. thru Purcell until you get to Washington St. (there will be a Carl's Jr on your right). Here you will turn left (east) on Washington St. and drive until you reach Canadian Ave. Turn right (South) go one block to a 4-way stop sign. Turn left (east) and proceed down the steep hill. The depot will be immediately in front of you.

You can either park there (do NOT park at the Depot, park just south of there in the grass...They'll tow you if you park at the depot) or depending on what you're driving, you can drive all the way down to the river and park where you ride. Most 2wd trucks do fine getting down there. 4wd trucks have zero issues getting all the way down to the river, even with a trailer.

To get all the way to the riverbottom, take a right at the train depot and go about 1/2 mile south and cross over the tracks (it's the only place you can cross, and it's pretty obvious) then go back north about a mile. About the time it looks like the road has ended, go another 100-150 yards, and turn right (east) through a gap in the trees...This will drop you on the river bed after about 50 yards.

It should be pretty low. I took my daughter on sat. with her 90 and we went about 15 miles down stream. Heck I even rode hers for a couple of miles while she rode the grizz.

wow, that was alot of fun...thanks for the directions...i think we maybe made it almost back to norman going north?? we got to some hills and a railroad bridge??? and what is the farm place with the blue tent going south??? is that rivermist??? we got there going south...well, almost, we saw it and had to go home....most fun i've had on the river yet....except my buddy was riding his banshee (second time out...first quad)....and hit a little 1-2ft bump and went over the bars pretty hard....back end jumped up and went over at about 40 or so.....he just never learned to jump...he's been riding streetbikes for awhile now, just never rode offroad....now he says he's not going to little sahara this weekend..lol...but other than that...great ride....

Hey Yall...

Well Keith and I are still in Colorado. Today we just finished riding the St. Elmo/Tincup/Pitkin loop...errr but not in that order haha. We had a pretty good ride today I think it ended up about 54 miles or so. For the second time we got caught in a hail storm on the mountain and rode down at speeds a lot faster than we would normally do so. We rode over near the Alpine Loop earlier this week but weather and other circumstances kept us from getting to "Engineer Pass" We did get to ride Imogene Pass and Yankee Basin (again caught in a hail storm at like 10,000 feet). By the way, in case the tourist brochures don't tell you...IT RAINS EVERYDAY 24/7 IN COLORADO. The state flower should be mildew and the state bird should be a pellican.

You know what BOB? I just got into town friday and it has rained both days that i have been back. so your problem is not isolated to the CO area. A little more rain and I will be ready to head to prague to get MUDDY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Bob,
Last year we stayed a month at Buena Vista from July 15 to Aug 15. It rained every day for the first two weeks, but was dry in Aug. Sounds like it stayed around a little later this year. The summer heat causes the afternoon storms. Maybe a little hotter this year. It hailed on us three different times too. We just rode with rain gear. Good thing, NO DUST, like in the desert.
Hope you enjoyed the Tin Cup area? We rode 8 different days out of St. Elmo. Great ATV area. A little rough for motorcycles though.
You didnt miss much by not getting to ride Engineers Pass. It is great scenery, but just an easy jeep road.
Now I am missing the mountains.
Hope you had a good trip home

Charlie,

We had a great trip home, it rained on us most of the way but it wasnt too bad in the truck. We got to do some fishing as well so that was a serious bonus. We met some people from Talequah who were staying at Tincup.

I liked the Buena Vista area better and Keith preferred the Ouray/Silverton area so we each found a place that we liked. Did you by any chance make it over to Mesa Verde and see the Cliff Dwellings? Those were pretty neat in their own right.

Hey guys, been a while since I have posted but i'm back and hopefully can make a ride or 2 and meet some of you guys. I sold my atc 250r and now own an 01 400ex that is bone stock. The R liked to go to fast to ride with my son on his 80 so she had to go, but I do plan on owning another one in the future. The 400ex is awsome, handles great and the only minor mods I have done is install some renthal bars and some stainless air scoops. I will post some pictures later tonight when I get home.....Chris

Bob,
went to mesa verde back in the 80's. back then you could climb down the ladders and all over the ruins. heard it has changed.

where did you fish? I want to take my tackle next time.

charlie

Posted by: Bobman

Charlie,

You can still go into the Mesa Verde rooms via ladder if you choose but you are somewhat supervised by the Park Ranger who conducts the guided tour.

As far as fishing goes we fished at Molas Lake just outside of Silverton, we fished at Chalk Lake which is near St. Elmo and we fished at Mirror Lake that is just outside Tincup. We didn't make it over to Taylor Lake but if we had...I am sure we would have fished there. I did best on salmon eggs...Keith did better on inline spinners.

Bob forgot to mention that we were assailed by outlaws too. We were outright robbed by the service department at Suzuki Fun Center in Durango.

Bob needed to rejet so we called them to see what it would cost. I talked to "Matt" in their service department and he said that he would rejet Bob's twin for $60, and since my Big Bear has a single carb, he'd do mine for $30. I didn't really need it. The Big Bear ran ok after I took the airbox cover off, but for $30 I figured I couldn't go wrong. He set us up an appointment for 9 AM the following morning.

So, we left Ouray at 7AM the following morning to make the 2 hour drive to durango. (Mountain roads and all). We got there and dropped the bikes off. We were told that it would take about 1 1/2 hours, so we went to the local wal-mart to get our fishing licenses and do some shopping.

When we returned to the Suzuki Fun Center, the scooters were ready, but the bill was over twice as much as we'd been quoted. My bill was $75. Bob's bill was the same because, for some reason, they only needed to rejet one of his twin carbs. I'm no mechanic so I don't know. When I asked why the bill was so much more than we were told it would be, Matt said that the work had taken almost an hour and that the minumum service charge was 1 hour @ $60 per hour.

If that was the case, why did he quote me the $30 price to begin with? It was simply an out and out lie. This seems to be the way that they do business. Take this as a warning and avoid doing business with these crooks at all costs. Besides over-charging us, they didn't solve the problems. We still had to remove the airbox covers and bob's twin still didnt have the power he should have. There is another shop in Durango that I'm told is trustworthy. It's a Yamaha dealer and if you're ever in Durango, CO. and need service, I have to recommend that you avoid Suzuki Fun Center at all costs.

I wish i would have had a camera to capture BruteForceBob sunk to the bottom of his fenders in about a 5 foot long mud hole with no bottom (he somehow managed to get it out sans help). Maybe, maybe not.... For the past two weekends James and I have rode from Rivermist to Asher and back. I thought for sure we would be drowned out last weekend but the water had moved downstream rather quickly and left us a great time riding. James has found a web site that gives water levels a varrious points along major rivers.

On a side note: You can ride your ATV into Asher on the right of way but you must walk it across the highway ($200 ticket if you don't).

Glad I had my brother-in-law's wallet.BR>SuperDav

Posted by: Jamesh921

Dave's right. Even after all the rain we've got lately the river is still down pretty low. I've been keeping track of the water levels each week on the site Dave mentioned (which Brent posted on this forum awhile back) and I've found that the water level at Rivermist is VERY rideable if the Gage Height is under 4.50 ft. Right now the website is listing the Gage Height at Rivermist to be 3.59 ft.

The website can be found at

http://waterdata.usgs.gov/ok/nwis/rt

I believe Brent also stated that optimal riding at Purcell is when the Gage Height is below 8 ft (Is that right Brent?).

I just checked the channel 5 seven day forecast. The only rain in the near future is a 30% chance on Saturday (figures ), but I'll be riding whether it rains or not.

I've got mine on the cross bar on the back of the brute under the tail light and havnt had any probs out of it, when I put the rubber caps over the nuts I put dielectric grease on them just for good measure since yours is a SRA I'd guess anywhere on the rear of the frame would be good. from the way I understand it from the warn tech the sylinoid is sealed and it wont hurt it to get wet, but I've also heard of alot of people putting them under the seat.

I don't think that it matters that much cause they all go out. i had mine under my seat on my Arctic cat and it stayed pretty dry and mud free under there and it still went out. I think it is more of a time thing than a wet/dry thing. So saying that, I would mount it where it is easy to replace.
