There has been some recent interest in starting an ATV club in central Oklahoma. I don't know exactly what all is entailed with starting a club of this nature but I figure the best way to learn is to start one and see what happens.

That being said, I setup an E-Mail account and a simple web site through my AOL account. So, anyone who would be interested in joining this club is more than welcome.

E-Mail COACATVCLUB@AOL.COM

Web Site: http://members.aol.com/coacatvclub

If any of you individuals who already have successful club membership experience under your belt and would like to give me a little input that would certainly be appreciated as well. Thankyou in advance.

Hey Brent Glad to hear from you,

Well I am not even going to get into the Win XP vs Win 98 debate...hahah. I will just state that I am one who still believe XP stands for Xtra problems.

I was looking in an ATV magazine and saw an article about a really nice riding area/trails system in Chadwick, MO. Looked like it had somethiing for everyone. It had rock and dirt trails for those who like that and it has mud boggs for those who like that. I am thinking that this Spring would be a great time to go up there. They have ample camping areas I am told.

Me and some other guys were going to chadwick mo afew months ago but i couldnt go then, but the guys who went had a blast and a few broken quads. The trails at chadwick are really rocky and some that arent but i heard its a challenge to ride the rocky corse , but i like my wheels straight and my plastic in one piece, but yes i would like to go check it out, there are places for every type of quad ,which is what our club has, so i also want oyu guys to come check out prauge lake on a good warm day soon.

Hey, where do you guys buy tires locally?

I went to two stealers today, and they both quoted me in the $140-$150 price range...FOR ONE FREAKING TIRE!

Tractor Supply has a pretty heavy duty one at around $50, but it seems kind of heavy. I also looked at Brians ATV. Do any of you have any other suggestions as to where to go for a new tire?

          Thanks,

          -Mike

          Posted by: Nicname

What kind of tire are you looking for? You could easliy order two tires for that $140. I have never bought tires over the counter, I have always ordered them.

          Posted by: nukeim

I popped one of the stockers on my Z400. Most of what I have found are 21" x 7r x 10. Stockers are 22" x 7r x 10. I really didn't want to lose any clearance, but due to availability, I may have to go with the 21s.

I ride 75% dirt, and trails (Draper)...25% sand down at the river. I popped this tire on a rock (or root) trail riding, so a thicker sidewall is probably a good idea.

I know I can order a pair for that much, I was just wanting to know if anyone knew of a good place to buy local...I am an "instant gratification" type guy, and don't like to wait But with the prices I have been seeing, I may have to grow a patience gene.

          Posted by: Bobman

          Mike,

I have NEVER been in there but I can tell you one place that has been in business for a long time and is not too far from your home is "Cycle South" on SE 29th and Sunnylane (SE corner of intersection next to Wallgreen).

Another long term place is "Del City Cycle" on SE 29th between Sunnylane and Sooner. Those places have been around forever so you might give them a call.

          Brent,

When the weather straitens up and gets warmer I would like to go to Prague and ride. The pictures that I have seen of Chadwick look pretty nice. I don't mind rocks and I usually go slow enough that I don't get my quad too torn up (unlike Good ole Ozzy). Kind of reminds me of a trail that Keith and I got on in SE oklahoma, we start up this tall hill, not real steep but just long and tall and about half way up it all turns to rocks about 4-7 inches in diameter and they were all jagged and messed up. It took forever to make it to the top. but we made it and it was a good ride...man we need to all ride again when the weather gets better.

Hey, thanks Bob! I had forgotten about them. Actually drove right by both of them today, and didn't stop....But that's because I'm a dumba$$, and I do things like that.

          Posted by: Bobman

          No problem Mike...

I know this sounds kinda sappy and Reganomics in nature but I like buying locally in my own community. I never really thoguht it mattered but I once saw a study that shows if you spend $1 in a town of less than 100,000 people approximately 58% or something like that of it is eventually reinvested in that community, even throug utilities, salary etc...just thogut I would pass that info on. But back to tires, yeah I will be needing some new ones next year. Let me know how Cycle South and Del City Cyle treat ya.

          Bob

          Posted by: nukeim

Neither treated me well today. When they said "$10 per tire to mount", and I told them that Wal-Mart only charges $3.50....You see...That's the point where that guy should say...."How about $10 for both?" But he said, "fine, go there".

          I said OK.

I went back to Brians ATV and ordered some Holeshots....With a 4 ply sidewall this time BR>
At one point, three people in there were helping me pick a set of tires, you know....Questions and answers going both ways across the counter. At no point did they act like I was interupting their important task of sitting around (like everywhere else I have been has done). They acted like I was a paying customer, and they wanted my money. Just like it's supposed to work, IMO.

They will get lots of business from me, even if I have to pay and extra buck or two. Nice folks in there.

I think all the parts dealers are just mad about this whole "internet thing" and how it makes for a slightly mory savvy consumer. I don't understand how they stay in business.

And Reaganomics are the reason that Clinton didn't have to worry about the budget IMO.

          Posted by: bearaf

I've only heard good things about holeshots. I was going to get some when I replaced my rear tires but just couldn't part with the $$! I'll always go to the people that treat me the best even if I have to pay a little more. I'd rather give my money to the nice guy than the a$$ any day!

          Posted by: Bobman

Walmart does sell ATV tires, I think they are Carlisle but I am not sure. The ones I saw on the ITP web site that looked like would be best for me were the Trailwolf series. I think that is what I will get next year (or if need be sooner). Any of you guys plan any snow riding? I've never ridden in snow but it may be cool.

          Bob

          Posted by: trailride

I want about 10" of snow . Ihave an old truck hood for a sled. And yes bob snow riding is fun, but its also very cold i wonder why? But anyway im getting a new set of tires and wheels soon also, 27" ITP 589 on c-series wheels. If you havent ever seen these tires the are bad ass.

Good to hear from ya..... If Michael had good dealings with Bryan's I will probably shop there.

Michael, do you know if Bryan's sells Winches? I know I can get one through Cabela's but I like the idea of buying locally. My motto has always been "Buy local, if you get burned you will at least know where to throw the rock through the plate glass window" That was a bad bad thing I said...sorry kids.. Nice quote Bob I'm not sure about throwing things through windows, but I do like to buy local, and this is the only shop that I found that acted like they gave two rats snotballs about my business.

As far as winches, I didn't see any. But I did happen to see that they ordered my tires through a very popular dealers distributor (Parts something online. ) that would most likely have winches.

I have been in there 4 or 5 times to look at ATVs, (before I bought this one) as well as parts. They treated me good enough for them to get my business again.

Like I said in a previous post. I'm not a regular (not to mention I spin my own wrenches, so their mechanic doesn't know me) and they acted like I had spent thousands in there, and my name was Norm.

I'll give them my name tomorrow, and if you go in, tell them "Nukem" recommended them.....Maybe they will give me some stuff later. BR>

If you want you can meet us in meeker, at 11:30 or so there is a gas station on the east side at the stop sign.

From there you would go to hwy 18 or use 177 to 62 or something like that , if your on 177 its the stop lights past jacktown to meeker. Hwy 18 goes to meeker at the stop sign at meeker head east aprox 8 miles . There is a sign on the south side of the road that points north that says prauge lake. There is a big 2 story building with cars all around it thats the road head north about mile then turn right east to prauge lake . If you would like to ride sunday tell me and we can meet at the store in meeker at the stop sign.

Do I take exit 200 for Prague Seminole or should I go a different route???

Hey guys I had a great time. I hadn't ever ridden anyplace with terrain like that. It was really good even though I had to bail once (or twice) . As an old man I am starting to stiffen up a little but I will be alright come morning.

Yeah Shane (OKBOW) it was a good time. There were a couple or three other groups out there as well that we stopped and BS'dwith. It's cool Shane we understand about familiy obligations this time of year. I look forward to meeing you soon. We are going to try to have another meeting in January where everyone can meet. I am going to post a seperate article about that asking people for dates that are or are not acceptable.

I would also like to welcome our newest member Lonnie. Lonnie is a friend of Shane and Brent and is from the Shawnee area as well.. At one time or another Brent, Lonnie, and Shane all three saved my bacon so I would like to thank you all for that. I hope we can all ride again soon weather permitting.

Heh....Friend of mine has a kid that plays ATV Off-Road Fury 2 a little too much.

He lets him putt around in 1st (he can't change the gears) and yesterday, he starts doing this, and laying his legs on the seat doing a superman. I was laughing so hard, it was difficult to take a pic. He is pointing at nothing....Just imitating the moves in the game.

Gotta get this kid his own quad.

And a word to the wise guys , DONT let bob test ride your quad. (lol)

I am 16 and am planning on coming to Little Sahara for New Years and since I live in Texas I was wondering if you know of any places around that area to rent quads instead of hauling some up there. that would also give me a chance to test drive some quads i have been wanting to test out and considered purchasing. any help would be appreciated, i was also wondering what all it took for yall to organize this because I have also thought of starting my own club. thanx, Jared

I ride an '04 Grizzly and enjoy trail riding more than anything, but I live by the South Canadian so I spend a lot of time riding the river too. Now that Christmas is over with, I'm ready to log some seat time. I sent an E-mail to the website and am ready to hear from somone. I also posted this message as a new topic by accident.I'm new to this forum thing and still learning how to navigate.

I didnt get any new mail the last couple of days so I am glad you posted here. We are a newly formed club with about 20 members but we are steadily growing. Right now there has not been a whoole lot of activity because everyone has been busy with the holidays and family activites etc. but we will soon be doing more and more stuff. This forum is our primary means of communication but we do use E-mail as well. What E-mail address did you send mail to because I haven't gotten any new mail at the club address in a few days. Send me E-mail at CoacATVclub@aol.com and I will tell you all about the club and mail you more info. Again, glad to hear from you and hope you enjoy membership with us.

I used the E-mail Link from the website, but if you didn't get it, it may have something to do with the fact that I am technologically challenged.I'll try it again later. I'm looking forward to finding some new riding spots, and riding buddies. I also forwarded the link to your website to some guys I ride with, I think they'll be ready to go also. Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am trying to plan the January meeting and I thought I would let you all vote on the date. I had the following dates in mind but nothing is etched in stone. Just send me mail telling me what date you want to have the meeting (Even if it is not listed below) and the date with the most votes wins. I thought that if it was okay with eveyone else we could have the meeting at the same place in Lexington, OK at the Broken Spoke. This is fairly midway for a lot of people and it seems like most people liked it last time we were there. The food was not exactly gourmet but I don't think anyone got sick from it, hahaha. So let me know when and where you all want to have the meeting...

Thanks for the help bobman. I learn something new every day. That was a pretty interesting article. I recently bought a Magellan Sporttrak Pro, and use it in much the same way described in the article. I also bought the software for my computer, so I can print paper maps of my favorite riding areas. It works really well (and is simple enough even I can use it.), and I'm sure does more things than I know how to make it do. As soon as I figure out how to do it, I'll post a map in my pics so everyone can see how they look. I would highly recommend a mapping GPS to anyone who trailrides.

Later Bob, and thanks again for the tip.

Just curious, did you choose your user name from the old TV show with Robert Conrad "Blacksheep Squadron"?

The name did come from the TV show, along with another story. At my previous place of employment we had one of those wonderful supervisors who would stick you on night shift indefinitely if you pi$$ed him off, or if he just didn't like you. So while spending the better part of three years on nightshift, one of my fellow squadron members popped off about us being the blacksheep squadron and it stuck. My badge number then was 6, hence the name Blacksheepsix. On the lighter side of things since I have left there has been an administration change, and that supervisor has lost his rank and pay and is now working night shift.Sometimes life is GOOD!

My camera makes to large of a file for the site, so I had to go in and reduce the size to about 1/3 the original. Anyway these are some pics from Clayton and Honobia, my two most recent trips. Enjoy

Ya I looked at it though allstate where my cars are and it was going to be like $8-$12 A month..... I should have took it but its one of those things you look at the money thing and ask is this really going to be used...And just so happened I needed it this time....But then again if I would had sold it before then I paid for it that whole time and never used it... Its one of those catch 22's I can look forward to saving for a 400EX now thats what I really want... A good used one for cheap... Its tax return season so Im hoping for a good one.LOL

                                                        Spudds,

Okay I do not remember who or what bike they were talking about. I do not remember if they were talking about buying or selling (I think it was selling). But one of our clubbers who posts here (one of the newer ones) said something about looking to sell or buy a sport quad. If you still have the club directory I sent out you can send mail to everyone in the club and tell them what you are looking to buy....maybe that will help you out.

Also a kind of FYI about insurance, if you sell a vehicle you can get a pro-rated refund on your pre-paid premium. At least you can with cars.

Hopefully I'll be back on in two weeks or so, as long as they aren't going to cut on me.BR>

Actually, I had been doing some pretty good 30-40 foot jumps for about 2 hours, and I ate it going about 10mph (bottom of 2nd gear). It was just one of those freak things, the bike was zigging, and I was zagging.

I would have gotten away with just a couple of bruises, but the bike flipped about 5 feet in the air, and came down on top of me, resulting in more than one snot-bubble being blown all over the inside of my helmet....Oh yeah, I have to get a new helmet too, as they are supposed to be replaced after a big blow, and this one busted the visor on the front, and the back looks like I hit it with the lawnmower.

I like the old style retro goggles that look like somethign out of a WWI movie, they are kinda hard to find I jsut had a cheap plastic repoica. I get goggles off E-Bay.

I don't have time to ride but if you guys go to Draper I will drop by and supply you guys with some cold ones. But you have to call me on my cell and tell me where you are. I live really really close to Draper so it's not out of my way and I would get a chance to meet Epp and to see all you guys again.

You will see a Brown and White state sign telling you where to exit for Draper. You will have to buy a riding permit for $2 and you have to have a helmet to ride there. You can get a permit at the concession stand. I will send you E-mail with my cell number so you can call me if you need additional directions. I live pretty close to Draper.

I think it was Spudss who was pointing out the coolness of maprring GPS units. I have a question, where do you get the maps? I see postings on here for people who want to upload/download maps & coordintes to others. I know that they come defualt with major raod and city maps already pre-loaded. But can you puchase/download additional maps like say Grand Cayon or other "rural" places. If there is a pre-existing map of aan area I don't really see the need for a GPS. Anyway, I am thinking about purchasing a GPS unit...anyone have any suggestions on particular models. Color is not important to me.

                                                                                      Bob

I have a Magellan Sportrak Pro, and I bought a map with it. I bought a topographical map of the United States with mine, and put it on my computer. You can then hook your GPS to your computer (optional cable required) and download portions of the map to your GPS. For example, if you're going riding at Little Sahara, you would download that area of the map onto your GPS. As you ride your GPS will automatically save your tracks in its memory. When you return home, hook your GPS back up to the computer and download the tracks from the GPS to the computer. You can then label, edit, or print your maps. If you'll go to my pics, you'll see a map that I printed off of my computer. The yellow lines are all of my tracks from a riding trip, all the rest is what the map looks like straight off the disk.
I'll post some links to some GPS info for you later, I've got to find them again.

They had a deal going where if you buy the GPS and a map disk at the same time, you get a $50.00 rebate. Also, if you wind up buying a Magellan, I can burn you a copy of the topo map and save you $90.00 By the way, I lied about the map pic in my photos. I had intended to post it but it was too large of a file. When we get together at the meeting I can show you what they look like. You can create some pretty high quality trail maps with the software. Later,

Just for an example I have a Garmin GPSMap76S, I have Garmin Mapsource Topo, and I have most of the SE one quarter of the state of oklahoma downloaded to my 76s. The 76s has 24mb of internal memory and I think I used about 9mb for the SE portion of the state. Thats a lot of land. Some units have memory cards and you could download the whole US if you got one big enough and had enough time to download it. I prefer to download where I will be going. I can save the particular sets of maps of se oklahoma on my computer for later and then erase them off of the gps and then down load half of colorado if i am going there. Hopefully that makes some since to you guys if you have any gps questions at all I will do my best to answer them.

I guess what my question/concern is...as follows. The place I like to ride has only one map that I know of. It is an old Wayerheuser map. The roads were owned/maintained by the logging company before they sold it to Hancock. Now I doubt that the logging roads that are on this map appear on any Rand McNally/Delorme mapping system. So my concern is that there is no "Pre loadable" map for this area. IF there is no preloadable map system in place would a mapping GPS really be worth the extra costs?

And I have NEVER understood why anyone would need a GPS in the city or why they make city maps in GPS form. I mean if you can get a paper map (like you can of most cities) why would you need a GPS?

                                                                                      Bob
