If you have ever been on a DS you would know that they soak up the whoops real well they have great suspension. But again don't take my word for it. Test them both out and see what you like.

I have both and if I could get my money back for what I have put into my DS730 I would get one more Outlaw 525

I would go with the Polaris 525S or KTM 525 lighter and with big bore kits from 540 too 600 cc

Posted by: CALDS650

The KTM 525 and Outlaw 525S are both out in limited supply, both use the same engine, both can be built up to 600 cc. the KTM is lighter cost more and has better shocks and brakes, My Outlaw 525 IRS is now a 540 and I will be taking it out this weekend for a break in ride. As a 525 it would pull the same gears up hill as my DS730 did.

Neither one! The DS is an akward and kind of clumsy machine. It does have good suspension travel, but it just doesn't handle all that well.

The Outlaw is IRS. The place for IRS is on semi-tehnical woods trails, not the dunes. When you are sideways and off camber on a steep dune, you want the stability of an SRA...not IRS.

Just be patient, and wait for a KTM 525!

This is a personal opinion but I like the DS better in the dunes than the Outlaw. I don't really like the IRS in the dunes and although it can jump it is not the best jumper. And they both ride really nice.

I never had a problem with the DS being clumsy or awkward but that would again be a personal thing I would think. Polaris is also coming out with a 450 and a 525 SA Outlaw. So you could still go Polaris or wait for the KTM. But I am sure the KTM won't be cheap but I am sure it will be worth it. They usually put a lot of aftermarket stuff on it that you won't otherwise have too. If you haven't ridden a DS try it and see if you like it first. They are comfortable and very nimble for their size.

I am only 5'9" and this is actually my husbands bike (the DS) and I can handle it so I am sure you won't have a problem. It is also the bike I started to learn how to jump with. Without a problem. But try it out if you can first and see what you think.

I would not trade mine for the world, it jumps fine and dunes awesome. When you put paddles on it, it does not make it any bigger nor does it feel clumsy or top heavy. I'm 6'2 and 180 and will not ride anything else but my DS cause I don't fit on 450's very well, I've pissed off more than one person with mine and will continue to do so, although mine ain't stock no more either.

But a friend of mine has a 525 and he is real happy with it, it does just fine for dunning, but when he jumps he always lands rear wheels first and the front usually slaps down from the weight of the IRS.

That is great. Everyone will have different opinions that is why I suggested that he ride them both before he makes his decision. Everyone likes different things. I don't own the Outlaw but I have ridden it and would love it out on trails but not on the dunes but this is a personal preference. No arguing it is a nice bike just prefer the DS in the dunes is all.

not to nock the ds because i have never ridden one but they do seam like relly clomsey quads like they sit relly high and seam to sit forward alot so u could nose dive esaly......... and they have telly small weels but i guess it u put paddles on it u could make them bigger.... thats what i dont think would be good for that stuf yet iv never ridden one so....

Posted by: jetmotoracer

yea but the outlaw looks sick!!!!!

Posted by: bigned1904

get a str8 axle outlar525

Posted by: bigned1904

silverbomb....i think you are wrong and i think the only reason you say is because you have a ds650 and dont want to think you bought the wrong quad. and if you are draging somewhere like glamis or gordens i think the 525 will smoke a ds because there drags and hills have whoops and the outlaw has much better suspestion. but i will give you this...it is going to be close enough where rider skill is going ot be the deciding factor. btw i own neather of these quads.

Posted by: bigned1904

ya if you can get on both quads that is going to be the best way to decide. just like i bought a 700 raptor over the 450s. does not take anything away from the 450s they are great quads just not suited for my riding. with eather of these quads your going to have a great time and be fast.

Posted by: sandman91

what quad will be better for me in the dunes?(about 160lbs, 6'2)
-the outlaw525 or ds650 baja x

Posted by: sandman91

srry i forgot to include this,
as far as jumping, drag, etc how do they compare in the dunes.
thanks,

well i would go for the ds im just afraid i wont like it cuz i am not very big and wont be able to controll it

Duning and Dragging the DS will smoke the outlaw.

I personally haven't ridden the DS and knowone I know has one but I love my outlaw anywhere including technical trails or the dunes. The power is amazing even stock and with the stock Maxis Razors it chews up anywhere, trails and even steep sand hills. No regrets on the purchase and I recomend the outlaw 525 to anyone.

how does the outlaw compare to the DS730 tho, ive been doing alot of reasearch, Im trying to build a 4stroke duner with extreme dragging ability. I have seen alot of DS that are outrageous while the costs are waaaay more they seem to be an amazing choice, other than price of mods.

Posted by: LT_Z

when is the KTM suppose to be out ? the outlaw has a 600 kit ? how does that run ?
