Hello all,
I have a 2005 Pred. We are planning a trip to Silver Lake dunes this summer.
I am in need a some answers.
1) Should I get front sand tires? Or will the stock Razors do fine?
2) I don't think drag racing is going to be my main plan so it looks like vee tread is the way to go. The Kanda Gecko plus looks good to me. What do you think?
3) I will need a set of rims too. Will the Dougles .125 be ok for the dunes?

Cynick,
Thank you for the info.
Which is better straight or Vee?

Thank you for the info. I haven't bought them yet. We just made the plans for Silver Lake dunes for August. I just need to find the right price because this might be the only trip I make to the dunes.

Stay away from Gecko's. I had a set on my TB and they aren't that great. Too heavy. I've replaced them with Skat Trak Edges and it makes a world of difference. On the Pred I've got Sand Stars and have been very happy with them.

I personally would not get the Gecko's. My sister has them on her Raptor and I raced a 16yr old girl on a piped z400 and we tied. If you really think you need the v-shaped paddles go for Sand Stars, I ran a set on my DS for about 2 years. They ran great, but my mods required more paddle so I now run haulers, the wifes pred also runs haulers and it will go everywhere without a lot of wheelies, unless you like to do that, then it will.
Also if you are not going to the dunes all the time the stockers on the front will be fine but if you go alot I would recommend sand tires for the front I would say Shark fins are good inexpesive way to go or Mohawks.
Also if it is clean sand then .125 Douglas will be fine. But if you see any amount of debris then I wouldn't get anything less than .160.
Hope that helps.

It depends on what you are gonna do. If you are just gonna be playing I would say go for the Sand Stars but it doesn't take alot to get used ot the straight paddles and I love mine. It did take me about 3 or 4 times out to get really use to them but when you do they are a good all around tire.
Good luck and if you need any other info PM me anytime. By the way I am the wife answering this time. I also really like my Predator.

Two of my friends bought the Geckos because they were the cool thing when they came out. Not to mention they got great review from Dirt Wheels. However, these tires are FREAKING heavy and not that effective. Both friend sold their as soon as another sorry sap would buy them. I would recomend Haulers (straight paddles) I don't have any problem doing side hills and turning with mine. MUCH better than v's to me.

check out tire in pic's YOU GOTTA have matching smooths to go with the
paddles FOR STYLE MAN.

Get the ITP V Shaped paddles & mohawks for the front. That would give it a mean look but not needed to run out there. Those Doug's are fine. I run ITP C series for sand but that's just for looks. Hauler's in the rear.

I personally run the haulers as well. Iknow have pics up in my gallery, feel free to check em out!
My tires get lots of spin so I have no prob grabbing that sand. If not riding hard I can't climb steeps as well.
I've rode V shaped paddles on diff bikes & the work really well. Ride sideways on steeps & make sharp turns.
My bike is light so I throw it around alot if needed.

I have run both the Itp Sand star and the gecko. Hands down the ITP have better hook up.
