DO NOT BUY THOSE! I bought two pairs of Oakly Sand Crowbars for me and my wife.. Rode with them at two different venues also at different temperatures... They fog up and do not unfog. They sent me home on more than one ride, and caused an accident. Sand my butt! They do not let sand in, but they also do not let air in, FOG FOG FOG! I cannot tell you how unhappy we were with them. I made Oakley refund my money, and bought a pair of Smith's because I love their sunglasses. Sand may be bad, but fogging is worse... I ride almost exclusively in sand, and would never buy those Oakleys again. My Smiths work great, and do not fog. Good luck....

Well, my older dragon goggles have done well but it is time for a new pair. Only occassionally get some sand in my eyes in the dunes. I would like to go with a colored lens (which one ???) to hopefully allow me to ride a little better mid day when there are no shadows and lots of glare and also thinking about something with polarized lens. currently considering trying the Oakley Crowbar Sand (not polarized) but now highly considering the Wiley-X SG1 goggles (polarixed avaialble but under the helmet goggles). Anyone know of others I should consider or input on the above two ??? Anyone bothered by similar under the helmet goggles ???

They are awesome indeed. Have used them several times now and forgot how good they are ... have yet to get any sand through them and in my eyes No issues with fogging but we have so little moisture/humidity here ... but morning riding could cause some fog and has not yet. I also got the iridium lens and it was kinda a PITA to switch the lens and very expensive but it does help a bit in mid day hours when no contrast/shadows in the sand ... point is you might want two pair or more depending upon riding conditions or day/night as it is not worth the hassle to switch lenses IMHO.
Do not get the Wileys ... they have huge vents in the foam and sand would just pour in. There marketing is way off on these ;( and they "got me" ... use them on a street bike only.

Kremer - The iridium lens has more of an orangish tint. Its an optical coating think kinda similar to what a polarized lens does. Different lerses let different types of light through and/or manipulate the light as it comes through. They dont really make a night and day difference but they do help no doubt. Simialr/same type lens used by skiers for that intense bright light coming off the snow.
MRD - The Oakley Sand goggles are the sand goggles.
Deatons - I think you may be the first I have heard that has not loved these goggles. I have heard of the fog issues but I ride in temps/humids where fog is very rarely even possible. It makes sense these things should fog easier due to the tight seal and less air flow. Maybe you meed to run into more trees or something to flatten out your face a little more like mine and others for a better seal as have not got any sand in these yey BR>

Yeah... I hate those little guys that end up jacking up your eyes over a weekend. I heard that Oakley was working on a new pair of googles that is specifically design for sand. I thought they were supposed to be available this year I just checked their web site and could not tell if they were available.... Anybody know what up with dat?

Yeah! Forgot about this thread! Thanks JKremer! Oakley did come out with some "sand" goggles and they are notably improved product for sand. The porous top and bottom vents are a much tighter material to keep the fine particles out and the lens is tinted to help with the "no shadow nooners." They are one available on the Oakley website for 40 bones.... but they are worth it!!! I bought a pair to check them out, but after testing I am buying them for the whole fan damily!

The Oakley's definately keep the sand out great, but if you putt around moisture builds up and you can't see to well if at all. It is not so much fogging as it is just water build up. I only had the problem when putting around with my kids. When I was riding normal 3rd gear or higher I didn't have any problems with them. Plus the tinted lense they come with work great in the dark also. So over all I like them better than my Scott's or Smith's. Just my .02 Ride faster

Did you guys ever resolve the type of goggles that work best in the sand? I was out at Sand Mountain today and the sun was so bright, I couldn't see the contours of the sand. Any input is much appreciated.

So you're saying the "Iridium" lens is really good for very bright conditions? Or is there a different lens? Why is this? What about them allows you to see where the heck you're riding? I'm getting the feeling the darker the lens, the better you can see in very bright sandy conditions.
