We will getting there on Wednesday evening about 7:00pm. We will more than likely stay in Cowboy camp. It is easier to get the 5th wheel toy box in and out.
We will bring a 686 Raptor, KFX 400, at least 2 Grizzlies and the new Sandrail. I haven't been since mid May and I can't wait to try this new rail.
I will try to post some new pictures on the rail so you guys will know what it looks like. It's just a 2 seater now. Should be wicked though. I may have to learn to drive it all over again. Brent, I should have either figured it out by the time you get there or have it broke. I will try to not get to crazy until Saturday or Sunday. I hate it when I break something the first day or two.

You are right you will get a ride in the rail. If that thing isn't still together when you get there I will be madder than an old wet hen. We have been building on the thing for 5 months. I'm going to put the fuel filter on today and possibly the radiator hoses and then start the thing. Working sure gets in the way of me working the rail, but my wife won't let me retire. I told her she could come visit me at the dunes on the weekends, but that was a big hell no you aren't retiring.
It will be fun for all of us to be up there. We should hang out and have a cold one or two or three.

The rail has awoke. We started it over the weekend and will probably drive it this evening if I get the CV's lubed and installed. Have you ever thought about being a hood ornament for a sand rail? I may have made it to light in the front end. It sure is alot easier to pick the front up now than it was before.

Finding a spot depends on how late on Friday you get there. I think my boys are going either Tuesday evening or early Wednesday morning. I'm going at 3:00 on Wednesday afternoon.

My family will be there by 7:00pm on Wednesday barring any break downs or highway patrols that think I drive to fast.
One big problem with the toy box trailer is it blocks my rearward facing radar detector in the Western Hauler. The only time that they have caught me speeding is when I have the big trailers on.
I neeed to get there ahead of you guys so I can learn to drive the rail. I have a feeling that it is going to drive different from the 4 seater rail.
It seems like a long time till Fall Break.

Man how times have changed. Thirty years ago when I started teaching Vo-Ag in High School, we taught plows, cows, tractors, etc.. Now I teach how to repair and maintence on quads and how to MIG and TIG weld so they can repair what they broke on the weekends racing.
Got to love my job. Fall breaks are GREAT!!!!

Brent,
The rail is running!!!!!!!! The boys installed the CV's and drive axles last night and I finished the throttle cable and I will drive it and adjust the clutch this evening. I will report tomorrow morning on the finished product. I hope that is as much fun as it looks like it is going to be. I love the looks of the shorter wheel base.
I just may have to be sick on the 18th or take personal leave so that I can leave on Tuesday 17th.
This will probably be Matt's last Sahara Trip for about 3 years. He will be starting Med. school either in January or early spring, depending on whcih school he decides to go to. So I should take an extra day or two to spend with him on the dunes.

I only have one statement to make about the new rail. Oh my God!!!!!! I have others but not on the forum. The way it handles turned out just like I was hoping it would. I may be in need of that hood ornament or wheelie bars with rollers if I going to ride on the road at my house. Skid plate has some new marks now. Aspault is hard on aluminum skid plates.
Austin you can a ride too. I have to get my wife tired of riding in the rail first and then we can have some fun.
I can't hardly wait and no I ain't doing what Austin told Doyle to do.

Well we can add three more that we know is going on the weekend. There is 3 guys from Fort Worth that called and told me that they will be there. Who knows what these boys will be riding. All I know is one of them will be riding a tricked out banshee. Don't worry the rider makes Brent look small. Not that I'm saying Brent is big. Well Travis is just huge.
I changed to four piston calipers on the rail for more stopping power. I'm having trouble concentrating on what I need to be doing. All my bunch wants to think about is the trip to Sahara.
I sure hope the "Cowboys" win this saturday so we don't have to listen the Wildcat fans while at Sahara. I think I will get a Wildcat flag and fly it upside down under my OSU flag while I'm there.

I agree no more talk about blowing up quads. On our last trip in May, my youngest son's KFX400 was needing a new timing chain so I told him to take his older braother's raptor and quess what the damn thing blow up. So dad got to not only rebuild the Raptor, I also got to pay for it.
A week from tomorrow night (Tuesday) I'll be there.

I've got an idea. You young pups should start a dune volleyball league.. I was just watching beach volley ball and why not dune volleyball? you guys arrange it and I will gladly judge it. Just don't tell BJ where I'm at. She will think I'm out riding while she is in the trailer cooking.
I think I'm at 2 1/2 days now. I have been getting in to condition for next week. I've been praciticing getting my hand in the right form to hold a Bud Light.

They do sell wood up there, but it will cheaper if you can take it with you. I've got a little more than a rick loaded and ready to go. I may load more since I'm going to be there so long.

Should be close to the bathrooms in Cowboy Camp. The Tahoe transport trailer has "Easin' Around" right it the center at the bottom of the rear door.
It sure is hard to keep my mind on having school today.
We allways check our phones when we come in from riding.

I wondered what happened to you. You should have been there on Friday the weather was beautiful. Sorry weather on Saturday and I loaded up and went home about 10 am Sunday morning.
The buggy was a blast until I blew a $2500 tranny on Sat afternoon. Sure glad it is under warranty.
I'm ready to go again when I get a new tranny.

We got the rail running when we were at the south gate. Bad relay on the fuel pump. We hauled it back to the trailer and wire in a toggle switch for the pump and we were going again. Broke the tranny the next day. We were thrashing on it pretty hard though. Tranny is under warranty though.
Worst part. I have to pull the motor to get the tranny out.
Well I'm off to Indianapolis for a week now. National FFA Convention Time.

I put the shee on alky this past weekend i can say i never really thought that it would have made that much of a difference, but holy hell man that thing would rip it seems like u just slapped a rocket to it...
but never the less it was cold out and wouldnt run all that good through the first 2 gears and i didnt have it tuned right so it will be for another day. but i will say OMG it makes a VERY VERY HUGE difference i could tell easy.

We will have An Orange V-FORCE that my wife rides with DMC Duals, an Orange Predator 90. A red prarie 650 that i ride wich i am also the fat guy. Probably some yama 450's and a Rhino or 2. I hope to get off work that friday, but if not we will be there early saturday.

Last time i was up there..it was spring brake..And its killing me...We have taken alot of trips this year..but there were to the Texarkana sand drags..thats a 6.5 hour drive and LS is only 3.5..The sand drags are fun..(win or lose) But there is nutting like Little sahara...And everytime we go we stop in elreno at phills cycle..couse he has about any aftermarket part you want in stock..For just about anything..So im always spend about half my spending money for i even get there...But the wife is not going this time..she got somthing going on..So im already hidding money..So im going to have a more spending money this time..LOL

I dunno..Its in the main part of town..i know you can ride to the other bar on the other side of town..i think you can ride anywere in town you just have to stay off the main HWY..I got a map from this spring that shows were you can ride in town..Let me see if i can find it..You know the main trail coming into town by the train tracks..well if you will look to the east..the first house on the south side of the RD with the little shop out back..thats the house we rent..its easy to find..its just east across the train tracks from the car wash...

I think its $7.00 a day...No sure how high the whips have to be...They sell them there...They do sell race gas there but its high...I just get about 10 gallons of 111 and mix it with 91 to get 101 thats what i run...and it last longer..and yes you have to have some kinda tail light...we have used glow sticks and hung them from the grab bar lol..

Dont know really what happend yet...I will know when i tear her down...i was racing jace..(Yellow rappy) and when i hit 3rd i lost the left cylender...So i thought i fold a plug..But i knew it was kinda funny..couse i was at a high rpm...But when i got it back and pull the plug out..there was little metal shaving on the plug...So it prob a hole in the pistion...Oh well just wait till im done with it this time..

dont use the word blow up till after the trip please. we are trying to make sure all of are stay together. we already have 1 blown shee!! taking 2 more shee's and a raptor.... whats the odds now. we are bringing extra bikes for sure. looks like we have 2-shee's,craycraft 686 raptor, yfz,ltz-450, kfx-400,praire-700and a brute force -650. maybe 1 or 2 extras.
im taking my kfx out tommorow, i dont plan on moving my shee till we put her on the trailer!!!

almost lost another shee. clutch burnt out. keeping are fingers crossed we can get it right before we leave. been tore up all summer. lost a yfz gained raptor 660 and a 700. we always have to wait till the last min to make sure we are going .my shee's in the garage , im starting it everyday for good luck.

had a hell of a time!!! l.s. rocks!!! yea it was a $ weekend!! buddies shee didnt want to run(spent $200 on new stator and pulled coil ,kick start and clutch cable of my shee and still didnt want to run.buddy rode mine thurs and it started to blow metal out the left exhaust pipe(blown!!) , other buddies raptor's oneway and wheel bearing went out, big bird's brute force broke cv joint(hopeing not front diff),johns 686-oil reserve cracked,gas line broke,rev sensor prob. my kfx's clutch cable snapped fri afternoon. it was a hell of a trip , but we still had a blast!!! doyle-austin... really wish i could have hung out and drank some german beer with you all, but... i was trying to get my buddies shee running for him.i wish u guys would have rode with us fri night. we stayed out there till 5:30ish a.m.. but i got your message from the bar and it didnt sound like u guys should have been even walking!!!!lol
doyle how did you blow the shee up??? i got to thinking about mine, maybe your right- i think i should run more than 93 octane in it-lol-lol!!!!! at least they are cheap to rebuild!!!

Taking 2 of my little ones to Waynoka this Friday for their first trip to the dunes. They are pretty excited after hearing all dad's BS stories from there. Have to show them where daddy bit his tongue off after an off angle jump on the 3-wheeler. Took 36 damn stitches to reattach it.
It has been 16 years since I have been there. Can't wait to see how much it has changed. Use to go 4-5 times each summer. Looking forward to seeing you guys there.
Will not be able to spend the night though. Do they have areas for just day parking now, or is it all campsites?
