(Hossblur) your description of a DS as being too heavy for a good dune quad may seem to be true without putting in some riding time in on one but i prefer mine over my Raptor.I am 6'4" and my Raptor seems small after being on the DS all day there is no comparison in the ride quality with the DS being superior in the rough stuff.I will agree that a stock DS can seem sluggish in the sand compared to a lighter quad but when you mod them as i have the power makes them feel much lighter and responsive to rider input.(guyco) with you being 6'4" as i am i believe that the DS should be on your list as well and as i stated above with mods for power they are a superior dune quad especially for a taller rider.I ride my DS on all of the tight wooded trails on the Oregon dunes and i never feel like it is too big for that and of course on the dunes it has a ride like no other. The DS can be made very fast with a fairly small amount of money(intake, carb, end cap) and the reliability is as good as it gets. And that is my real world opinion!!!

I'm 6'5 and all the 450s cause me to have negative knee bend which makes standing hard on the knees and wears me out. As a duner sooner of later your first in line, I don't know about oregon but in Idaho your always up looking for lava or witches eyes, and here (utah) its razor edges. After a lot of up and downs, I have found it better to be on the bigger quad( I have a 660 for this very reason), and god knows no one wants one of the tractors(kfx or bomb) in the dunes even though they are good for tall riders, they weigh as much as a tank.

I'm not your size (6 foot 195) but own a Raptor and YFZ and have spent a little seat time on an LTR450. The Suzy is more roomy than my YFZ and feels quite stable with its wide stance. The suspension is to die for. I ride just dunes and the Suzy jumped so well and slides great. The Raptor is bigger and more comfy and if I were your size would probably be my first choice unless you like to jump a lot the the lighter bike would be the choice.

hi anyone have some input for me? I am 6'4" 220lbs and am thinking about getting a new quad to replace my 660 Raptor I have gotten along fine with it just need to update and I like the idea of fuel injection, the Suzuki grabs my attention since it has almost all suspension stuff done to it allready and costs little to get it dune ready. The raptor 700 is apealing since I have a earlier one allready and it fits me well.

so is there enough room to get comfortable on the 450? I have been on the YFZ450 many times and it feels cramped up for my size. I ride almost always in the oregon dunes. and like a bit of everything trails rides, flat out open and big dunes so if youve got a real world opinion let me know, thanks .

thanks everyone for your input , I am heading out the door to try some quads on for size and we will see if any follow me home in the truck bed.

Good points on all and to be honest I always liked the DS's too , guess I need to sit on them all and think about fit.

Lots of guys over 6 foot say they are cramped on the 450's an lots say they feel good. So I guess its just a personal preference lol. Go sit on both and you can get a good idea of the comfort level for you. I think both quads will give you the performance you want just in different ways. Also FI is great option and I personally wouldnt want to go back to a carb.

I have set on all the current quads and I, being 5-10, having a 400ex for years and raced a DS on several occasions and seat time on most all sportys have these observations.

Anyone my size would feel somewhat overwhelmed by a DS, thoug I got used to it and it was cool, almost chopper like and not real tiresome, though I wouldn't buy one for my personal use.

450r is close to the EX size wise, if I were to buy a 450 it would be a Honda at this point.
YFZ450, small and low, feels like I'm on a Power Wheels, I feel like I'm sitting on a perch.
R450 similar to, but not as bad as a YFZ.
Raptor 700, not actually ridden one, but reminds me of the EX, it seems to fit my preferences perfectly.

There's my evaluation for what it's worth to ya.

Im 5'11" and felt cramped on the YFZ 450, thats why I went with the 700.

I havent sat on a Suzuki so I cant say how it feels. Ive heard the Suzukis have clutch and tranny issues, along with the lower rear shock linkage breaking.

On paper the Suzuki looks great...EFI like the 700, better suspension than the 700, lighter than the 700. The reliability and lack of power would be an issue for me as I mostly ride dunes.

im 6'1 and im feel my 450r comfy.... before i got my R i was looking at the suzu 450 , but i felt too cramped ........but if its between the 700r and the lt450r..... id go with the rappy...... to me the raptor is more comfy and i think it would be a better dune bike

try to test ride both then get the one you like

I Like the feel of the 450's but Im kinda short lol

Dont think the LTR would be as comfortable as the 700 for your size.
