for duning you may want a V paddle.
If you are sticking with haulers the best set up I have found is 21 11 8 6 paddle on .125 rims reg haulers. Dude you are way over paddled. I would go with 7 paddles max, but I like to drag race and the 6 paddles helps keep the front end down.

Sorry I didn't realize the sand was that different there..I guess you better ask more Oregon people. I know a lot of people run over paddled and it will actually slow you down.

I ride the Oregon dunes, ride a YFZ450, and run 20"X10"X10" 8 paddle haulers.
I don't do much drag racing, but do pretty much all of the tree-shots at Winchester and Florence.
Air them down to about 3 1/2 lbs and get it jetted correctly and you should be fine.
I know a lot of the drag racers use 6 and 7 paddle tripple buffs and so forth, but if you are a recreational duner and like to do many other types of dunning besides drag racing, I think the tires listed above will work fine for you.
For reference, I have a DR D slip-on, airbox lid removed, and re-jetted.
I think Sickrider can attest to my ability to get in and out of the tree-shots without too much trouble.

Thanks for the complement Cory, but I was actually not fishing for one.BR>
All I was trying to say is that the tire/paddle combination that I use will work better in the sand than many would have you believe.
I also have to admit that you and your friend really did surprize me to see you two coming out of that one hole!!BR>Very impressive indeed!
BTW SickRider,
What tire and paddle combo are you riding?? In your pics it looks like you are running 8-paddle haulers???

I know when the sand is wet at where I ride I'm way over paddled. If it's dry and loose then it's awesome. Sand conditions do play an important role in choosing a paddle tire. Got to get those tires spinning.
The question for JSmall. I think that the ITP Sand Star is an excellent tire for the YFZ. It hooks good and is a great play tire. I know lots of people with them and they think they are IT. They won't break your pocket book either.

All i ride is the dunes in oregon so heres my .02.Your 10 paddle extremes would be too much for your quad if you were into serious drag racing but they will work fine for general duning. You can drastically change hook up on your tires by going way up and down on the pressure as the sand calls for.3 to 4lbs for dry conditions 5 to 6 lbs for wet sand and you will do well. The only thing that will be effected no matter the pressure you run will be your top speed but most people dont push that hard for long enough to notice the excessive paddles bogging you down.

22" with 9 paddles is waaay too much. I've ran 21's with 8 paddles, and that is way too much paddle. It will totally bog your bike down. I've got some 6 paddle 21's coming right now, hopefully they'll be about right.

All I do is ride oregon dunes and the best set-up for a yfz is 22-11-8 9 paddle extremes on .125 douglas wheels. The 22" tire is better because in oregon there's alot of deep ruts down in the treeshots and they are hard to get out of with only 20" tires. Hey there's a oregon clean-up next month. you should come. goto www.sandlakeduners.com and get info on it. It's a great event and alot of nice people.
thanx

well I've used 20-10-8 8 paddle haulers and 20-11-8 7 paddle extremes. The extremes are the ones that you saw me using. Since then I switched to 22-11-8 8 paddle extremes bead to bead since now I have more power. They work better than you would think. Oh and my front are sandstars 22".

yup.... have aim or msn duneittilludie?

i have a 2005 honda 450 and i run 21 tall 12 inch wide wit 8 paddles and the paddles r like 1 inch tall and if the sand its packed it hook extremly well but if the sand is dry and loose then all i do is spin so depends on a dry or wet condission

Sorry this is such a basic question, but I&39;m new to ATV&39;s and the sand for that matter. I&39;ll start off telling what I have and what type of riding I like to do.
Bike -
I have a 06&39; YFZ 450 that is stock now, but I will be installing a Yoshimura full system exhaust and a Pro design K&N filter kit today. Within the next few days I will be taking it in to the dealer to get the first service done. At that time I will have them rejet, adjust the valves and do the cam mod (their recommendation).
Riding/experience -
I will be riding in Oregon at Sand Lake and Winchester Bay most of the time. My first riding experience and my first sand experience were good. I liked the tree shots and the bowls…basically just your average all-around riding. I don&39;t really drag race anybody other than my buddies.
Question –
When I bought the bike I was talked into getting a set of 20x10x10 Hauler Extreme 10 paddles. After meeting people at the dunes and doing lots of reading on sand tires I feel like those aren&39;t the best setup for my bike and riding type. I like the extremes but I&39;m thinking about going with less paddles. Would anyone like to recommend a better setup for my quad? I have been doing so much reading on tire size and number of paddles that&39;s best for the sand…my head hurts.
Again, sorry if this is such a basic question for most of you on here.
Thanks,
Jaromy

I don't know anyone by that name with a 350r and Banshee. I'm new to the quad seen but I'm finding I have lots of friends that ride almost every weekend. Last Sunday I went out to Sand Lake for the first time and met up with about ten other riders from Newberg. The 17th and 18th we will be going to Winchester Bay for my first time.
