The confrontation you are referring to with Tasha is incorrect! MY CHILD WAS THE 10 YEAR OLD! There was no doubt in any of the riders that they were trespassing as soon as the riders saw the parking area...but with ZERO markers on the backside of the dunes (where people who have alternate places to park would be coming from) there is NO way of knowing you have crossed into their property...until it is too late! Once these riders saw the parking area they decided the quickest way to exit KSI property would be to head towards 874. Once there, Tasha was waiting, camera in hand and proceeded to shout obscenities and tell them they were trespassing. 3 riders rode closer to her truck, a 34 yr old man, a 16 yr old and a 10 yr old. The ONLY blocking done was by another KSI associate on a blue YFZ 450 who parked right in front of my husband and asked him, "Do you have a problem?" My husband, "No, do you?" He said, "You are trespassing". The reply back was, "No I'm not, we are on the state easement get out of my way." He then rode around to the drivers side of the pickup and said something to her that no one heard and rode off. She was asked to show them a map. At that time, STILL 3 people (1 adult and 2 minors) next to her vehicle she grabbed a black pouch and held it up. She then put the pouch in the seat and removed the gun and held it by the grip and the barrel in plain site to show them she had a gun. That is when she should have felt threatened! My husband asked her who the F she thought she was pulling out a gun in front of kids. She put the gun down and that is when a buggy rode up (who was another rider in the group) and got out to ask her again to show us a map. He had not heard the conversation up to this point. This rider approached her vehicle- his only statement to her was show us a map and she said, "I don't have to show you a F*ing map!" She got out of the vehicle and started to come around to the passenger side of the vehicle and stopped at the back of the truck and turned back around and got back in her truck to leave. The other young rider started down the easement to get back to the remainder of the group and she took off and followed him at a high rate of speed. The rider finally was able cut back into the dunes and return to the group.
There is ABSOLUTELY no excuse for this. No way she felt threatened- why would she get out of the vehicle? If you feel threatened a normal person would drive off- NOTHING was stopping her from doing this. She was in a full size truck vs (3) 4 wheelers in the sand. She yelled and cursed from the time she pulled up to the time she left- SHE WAS THE THREATENING ONE! I guess the owners of KSI think that enforcing trespassing onto their property is something SO important that bodily harm by a gun is acceptable AND justifiable. In order to prevent confusion and trespassing you should have your land marked on all 4 sides- either by fence or signs visible from each other.
Regarding today's incident-The how's and why's are one thing- but when you involve a gun into the scenario- the one holding the gun and choosing to pull that trigger better be ready to lie in the bed he has made. He obviously was ready to have the possible death of someone on his conscience for the rest of this life. OVER SAND! He did not even give them the opportunity to identify themselves! Boundaries and him not carrying a gun out into the dunes would have prevented this incident from escalating.
There is a difference between truth and slander. Danny has been charging to ride on HIS land...period...without permission from any land owner. To charge for an area should be just that- RIDE ONLY ON HIS LAND. You guys got the front part of that fence up PDQ once the public was made aware the "Free ride" was over. Why shouldn't he fence off the remainder?? WHY?? Because its more enticing to charge people to ride past the fence with no boundaries vs pay to ride in a 1 mile x 2 mile area- IF he had markers people riding in from the "other side of the hills" would know - WITHOUT A DOUBT! People can no longer ride on the non KSI land now because the parking area was destroyed...have we said thanks yet?

Yes, you're right-- we're the ones who have been untruthful the whole time! One lie right after the other. You should know the dunes change- things look different- if you want to prevent trespassing you have to mark your property on all four sides, plain and simple.
You know where it starts from the fence - you don't know where it ends (or begins if you're coming in from the back) because there is no way of knowing! Sand is sand is sand~

"It" (trespassing) is what brought this to a head...implying you were under the impression that when someone provoked him he may take drastic action?
All would have been fine....meaning it is "our" fault he blew up and did this? Possibly because people had been making fun of him? He didn't have to ride over towards these two riders on Sunday alone. There is always a group of KSI "volunteers" - no way do I believe he had to go alone. He CHOSE to go alone and CHOSE to take a gun out there and CHOSE to pull it out and CHOSE to fire it. This is not how a reasonable thinker would react by threatening to shoot or shooting to try and get someone off of his property. This shows ME that this has gone waaaay beyond a battle over sand. It has become personal. I believe he went out with EVERY intention of doing this. He just thought he was justified by law.
& If he was so worried about the death threats he/his family had been receiving, WHY in the world would he send his wife over to confront a group of male individuals ??? I don't know ANY man in their right mind, IF they were seriously concerned about someone harming them, that would send his wife (alone in the vehicle) to do this!
At least you're a good friend gofastshee- you're sticking by his side....I'd only hope he'd do the same for you~

In the past when coming in on a ride from the back of the dunes you didn't have to worry about crossing over into the "KSI Twilight Zone" so WHO ever paid attention??? I know I certainly didn't- I follow the person in front of me and watch out for what's happening in front and back rather than trying to VISUALLY mark off when we've crossed property lines . THIS is what people have been trying to get across- PUT UP YOUR DAMN FENCE OR MARKERS and this would have NEVER been an issue. Not as gofastshee has repeatedly said- we provoked him- made fun of him- or intentionally crossed over the line!!! NOT my problem he has the tendency to be a loose cannon- and had ANYONE known that could very well be the case- I GUARANTEE I would NEVER even have taken MY CHILDREN out there ever again until that "man" was gone from there!

I'm not seeing right at all. Wasn't JDZ showing off old pictures of riders on the news yesterday...pictures of riders on the opposite side of the road from his area...Is he still persuing trespassers on behalf of other landholders?
Seems to be what I saw, just some boring, old pictures- from the opposite side of the road from their property.
That had to be sometime after they moved their business into the county park area to collect their $$$. See, in the beginning they were parking on the side of 874 near where their fence line ended. But, they complained so much about people parking on the side of the road and riding down the easement that they too had to comply with the law. It appears that picture came from the parking lot- they've got LOTS of time to take pictures -- for what purpose who knows. Do you think he throws darts at some of the pictures with all of the free time he has now or.....no, surely not....but, could they be for target practice???????

Nobody is happy with the way things turned out. Even us KSI members are not happy about the parking lot being covered, but were doing what we can and have to, to provide a place to park so we can all ride and enjoy ourselves in light of the parking situation. And all we get is flack from people like dunefighter about it not being good enough. People need to be more positive and help the situation instead of bad mouthing what we're trying to do. KSI is not going to sell out and the dunes will always be there for those of you who want to ride and have a good time. people ask me all the time what the status is and I always tell them come on out were open. and they all tell me I heard it was closed or I heard you have to have full body protection and a long list goes on. Where do you think all this false information comes from? People with negative attitudes that cant or choose not to adapt to the changes so they spread rumors or get on the internet and try to make everyone else agree with them. Dunefighter have you ever rode anywhere else but Kermit? I have, and alot of the complaints you have about KSI aint any better any where else so why is it so hard for you to adapt? at little sahara you cant even see the sand until you get through the entrance and go back about 100 yards.
Look Dunefighter you and your family are welcome to come and enjoy what we have to offer.If it's not good enough for you I'm Sorry.
All i'm try to point out with this post is the negative attitudes aren't going to help anything. If you truely want things to get better maybe try a more positive approach.

The only good answer I have is they've put the cart before the horse. KSI has shown repeatedly they were trying to "sneak" in under the radar to get the $ they were after. I see them as sitting back in the past and looking at all the people that had been going counting up $7/per person/ per day and getting that Daffy Duck greed, its mine ALLL mine! If you've been going out for 25 yrs you will see the point of what I am about to say. When KSI first put up their barbed wire fence (one side only) and started charging, my family went out on a 3 day weekend in January. KSI was parked on 874, waivers in hand and walking up to people parked in the parking lot to give their best speech and preach to us about all the wonderful things they had envisioned for the area. That entire weekend there were THREE campers! There use to be more than 3 campers any given weekend. Numerous people showed up during the day- lots of them chased down by JDZ and friends and were told they had to pay to ride period. Yes, people should be showing up in groves, but the majority of "long time duners" are not going to support them period (ONLY because of their actions and their underhandedness, trickery and deceit) and that is where the $ is...it is off of people that have more than one four wheeler and that will stay out for more than an afternoon. The traffic out there has slowed to a near stop. They HAD to build a pad because the County covered theirs. All they were trying to do was profit off of an area that wasn't entirely theirs.
JDZ/KSI has been arrogant from day one- telling people they were the saviors of the dunes...if people don't like it and IF someone else won the bid on the parking area the dunes would be CLOSED and only KSI would ride on the sand period. THE FREE RIDE WAS OVER as JDZ so eloquently put it.
This forum was to be a spot for people to talk about this situation. As DD said, 2 threads were deleted. This was due to the hostility and threats to people bringing up valid points and questions by the KSI members! They couldn't explain anything truthfully- a lie to cover a lie & in the end it will all roll downhill!!
It will be a cool place to ride again...patience is a virtue. Have faith & strength in numbers!

I can really see these duners with the $ invested in all the things they have FURTHER jeopardizing their riding area by vandalizing and tearing up stuff just for spite and to cause KSI more pitiful grief.

Are we ready for another cold spell? I'm locking myself in the house this weekend and catching up on all that fun stuff mommies seem to be responsible for. And take the christmas tree down- I'm way behind- but spending New Years Eve at the dunes was well worth it!

What's the matter?? Don't like being sandblasted?? That wind was from H*ll on Sat-- I hope all of KSI's big "prime" dunes are about 75' shorter BR>
SO, as I was sitting here bored at work- I decided to flip over to their website- I see that others are working hard at trying to get KSI some business by trying to coordinate a big event. It amazes me that people are still trying to go the extra mile for that bunch. Absolutely amazes me- and they are talking to themselves- KSI won't even reply-- only their PR rep.

KSI can not close the dunes- people need to figure that out- they own a SMALL portion only. People know better than that but nobody wants to support them, ok a FEW- but that will not be enough to salvage the damage they have done. There are plenty of people out there on any given weekend they just aren't supporting KSI.
I hate to see everyone devoting their consciousness into something that will never benefit them. KSI hasn't done chit for anybody. They won't give any response because they don't have a thing to say. Maybe they are fresh out of ways to stretch the truth.
I did see in the paper that Kermit lost about 20% of sales tax from last year- wonder if Kermit sent out their thank you cards yet?
You know they charge some to ride and not others. I guess that depends if Mr. KSI or Mrs. KSI is at the gate. Rules are rules...unless they know you. Let the wonderful West TX wind and sand cover up all traces of KSI! It really wouldn't take long.
