ITs a Jeep testing ground. Jeeps arent much for duning, but love obsticle courses. I was out there memorial day watching them. Also saw some quads intentionaly going through them. Very Funny. They are pretty easy to avoid if you stick to the fence, but if it is night time, and you come over that dune, then I suppose they can surprise you.

sounds like a good place to take the new guy then sit back and drink some "milk" while he/she suffers and learns the hard way

Hmm. How the heck is he getting a dozer down there? I just can't see them letting him on the beach with it. Not exactly something that's easy to hide.

But I've noticed the dunes this year are pretty nasty. Razorbacks, Witches Eyes, etc. Though I've only been going for 3 years now though. And not all that often.

Are you guys talking about right there next to the vent pipe on the way to the drags? (Well, to the west of Sand Highway?) They used to have a fence up along next to the vent with about a 8' gap over on the west fenceline.

I've never followed anyone from thread to thread! It's pure coincidence! Really! LOL.

I know Parks has a dozer I've seen them out there with. Usually to move sand around the entrances and around the bathrooms. If they are going to let someone out there with a dozer, they should let people drag the flats out there to smooth them out. What's the difference? Hell, it makes the flats safer.

Did you actually see this person with a dozer?

I was there over the 4th and we screwed around in there for a while. I ate $hit the first time through. In one of the deep ruts toward the right side. I got a little speed and caught my front right whell and she flipped sideways and sent me flying. Luckily it was soft sand so it didnt hurt anything but my pride. My 3 buddies who were following me stopped right behind me to laugh. We all got stuck and it took some work to get out.

The best part is some a-hole on a Shee stopped and watched us getting unstuck and then tried to show us how it was done and ate it himself and then got really stuck......

They were freshly done right before the 4th. I was one of the first ones through. By the end of the 4th weekend they were not nearly as big and steep.....

I was there a month or so ago, and I know exactly what you are talking about. They are to the southeast of the base of "comp" hill and, if you get caught in there, it can be a lot of work to get out. My buddy, who likes to brag about his 450r and how good a rider he is, got caught in there during the day, and it was hilarious watching him try to get out, until we finally helped him pull his bike out. The sand is so soft, that once you start spinning, the read end buries and you are suddenly looking up at the sky. I've never seen anything like it. That night, that same buddy was leading a ride in the dark, and lead all four of us back into the center of what we started calling the "Sarlacc Pit" (like from Return of the Jedi). Fifteen minutes later, we had all of the bikes out, but we were completely exhausted.

When we go out there this weekend, I'll have to go look at this. Especially with the kids following us.

Just came back from PismoDidn't see any evidence of a tractor moving any sand. Spent some time watching guys drag race at the strip. Like b&rw said, they sure could use a dozer to smooth the sand there.

i think they do this as a way to break current in the wind. sounds funny but i ve noticed that that particular dune is getting smaller and smaller along with the dunes down wind from this as well.conspiricy theory ?maybe

I was just there last weekafor a fwew days and noticed the same thing. i love to rip the fence line on my CR500 and there was a fewe places that the wind didnt form.

BRW, the rangers have a rubber track sort of bull dozer in their arsenal.

For you pismo goers-
I dont know if you have noticed, but there is some A$$hole that goes into the dunes and creates rows of big sand obstacles with a bull-dozer. When i was on a night ride, i not only got stuck in there but practically flew over the bars, and would have if it werent for my lightning quick reflex's, J/K. My main purpose of asking this question is to find out what the hell this guy is trying to accomplish.

Posted by: cr125predator

sorry, i have been out of town, but yes i did see the guy with the dozer and he drives it out there over the sand highway. They have actually been there since november. I just dont get it.

Yeah, as you can see in the picture they are pretty deep trenches, we discovered them on our trip last year. i personaly thought they were fun to ride through, i think they were about midway back past the sand highway. looks like someone took three or four passes with a dozer, making huge paths in the hill, pretty visable and easy to see though, not too much threat on these ones at least, except to the unexperianced rider we brought with us then, lol as you can see in the pic
