Get a thumb saver. My daughter was 4 when we got her the LT-80. Had the throttle limited from the start so she couldn't go too fast (helped that we rode in the sand.)
She asked me to take it off last trip. That lasted one ride Her little hands can't push that thing.

Hey Barley that's just how my boys started, from the electric wheeler soon as they could stand up then on the dunes with a zooki 50 at 3. Now they're 10 and 13 and ride like pros (see pix on my page) and we all ride together with no holding back (except letting dad rest now and then!).

Inbetween the very young riding days and present time (and surely to continue) there have been very many ass chewings, when rules and lessons were not paid attention to, but also there have been no injuries so I guess it's working out. I let them ride pretty aggressively and teach them what I can but moniter the stupidity factor with all the tenderness of a drill sargeant.
When other guys come up to you in ten years and say "Holy balls man that kid can really ride" your heart will grow right out of your chest.

He will be 4 at the end of October and last weekend he rode his Suzuki LT 50 about 2/3 of the way from the KOA at Hauser across the dunes to the beach. We had to stop because his little thumb was killing him. Let him take a break and then said, ok, let's head back. He started crying and saying that he couldn't do it. I told him he didn't have a choice - nobody could do it for him and even if he cried all the way back, that's just the way it would have to be. He manned up and made it back to camp. I was so proud of him. He paid close attention to us, stayed right behind mom and rode as hard as his little 50 would go. What a stud!!!

Yeah, it is an important lesson to learn and I'm glad he is taking it on early. I can just see it though, there will be a time in the near future, where I will be like, "boy, I don't know if I really want to attempt that jump" and he will be going, "come on dad, man up, act like you got a pair" - oh well, I'll deserve it I'm sure...

That is great to hear Shady. I haven't talked to a whole lot of people who have started them out this early. It sure seems like if they will pay attention to you and follow some rules, they are doing great to get an early start. His motto is "Ride Hard, Stay in Control" - mom tries to tell him it should be "Have Fun, Stay in Control", but we know better, don't we!!! ha ha ha

I have two boys of my own. 7 yrs and 5 yrs. I've had to do the same thing with my oldest who rides a ETON 90. Picking up a 2004 ETON 90 tomorrow for my youngest. I'll certainly have to do the same with him in the near future. Regardless of these minor issues......KIDS ARE AWESOME! They are also really spoiled to have their own ATV or Bike at their ages. I had to wait till I was about 14.

My son is only 9 months but I can't wait til he starts riding. He's a little roughneck and has no fear even at 9 months. You may want to consider getting one of those thumb extension deals that you attach to the thumb throttle. Suppose to be a lot easier on the thumb. Or better yet throw on a twist throttle for the little guy!
Just be sure not to go too hard on him as it may turn him off the sport in a hurry.

My son has had to be told the same thing on a long trail ride, however my daughter will simply pull over and tell me no she is not going any further and guess what when she puts her mind to something she means it. So there we will sit until she is ready

One of my favorites is drag race'n my two kids on thier lt 80's and of course letting them win but keeping it close. Its cool cause when ya get back to camp you here them bragging to the other adults that they spanked my z. Its funny when they razz me

Sweet. that has to be hard work for the lil guy. thats a trek. and a rough one full of whoops about the whole way!! WTG lil man. and good job dad some people might thing you were a lil hard on him. but ya know what you just tought him a valuable life lesson and he will remember it. sometimes your Down and out and doubting yourself but if you just get with it and believe in your self you can accomplish what you saw as impossible.!

LOL. yup. thats what they do. I do it to my pa still. whitewater kyaking he would always wanna portage around wiers and dams and stuff and i just go over em. even though thats stupid and highly hazerdous thats what makes it fun

Check out yahoo and look at the e-ton 90 pages, they have some sweet little quads and some kids jumping triples on them, its unbelievable!
