Welcome DEZ.. im another Kermit dunes rider...friends with haulin on here. yet weve yet to meet up.. we will.. there are a handful of Kermit riders on these forums, ive meet bout half of um.. good bunch..i usually am a bit younger than most at 25 years old, i ride YFZ450 out there and my wifes on 250ex.. we have a large group that rides all 250Rs and 400ex's... anyway welcome.. as for Kermit.. i go at least once a month..(its 250 miles one way for me..well worth it).. all year long...EXCEPT.. JULY AUG.. cause its so dam hot its not worth the trip... anyway i am dying to go but all my friends want to go the last weekend in sept but i might be doing a race that weekend so i dont know... but it will still be hot as hell till the end of the month.. will start to be high 80s but for next couple weeks anticapate above 90s for most the day.. if you can hold out a couple weeks youll really enjoy it... I ride dunes all over the U.S. and Kermit is a blast... what do you ride and who with?.... well if you end up going make sure you post on here each time as you did.. thats what we do, dont get too many responses but at least one person will be going same weekend.. well good luck

To me this is the best time of year to ride. I always look forward to the fall months. I ride there at least once a month and more likely every weekend during the fall months. It's a total blast at Kermit. I've been riding there now about 3 years now. I might be going that weekend. I'm doing some household chores now (carpet, painting etc...) but hope to get out next weekend but don't know yet. If not, then sling some sand for me.

we usually make it out to Kermit around the 1st two weeks of Oct. or on Thanksgiving wknd.

don't have to sweat too much then

I've re-welded a couple of hairline cracks on two motor mounts over the past 3 years, other than that it's a sound install. Stock swingarm just won't do it for my set-up, I run a +6 or +8 depending on terrain.
If you need an extended swingarm for a Warrior, give me a hollar.

xr650warrior, have you had any structural or performance type problems from your converted Warrior. I did not go as extreme as you did. I have put an 03 TRX440EX motor in my wifes Warrior. It has a webcam, Keihin FCR 39mm carb, Sparks X-6 pipe, no airbox, and a Hinson clutch. Oil tank and oil cooler are in standard location on a 400ex frame. Oil tank is a 3 quart custom made out of 190 wall aluminum. I get the bike back from the welder tomorrow (tues) and will be getting the frame ready for powdercoat by next tues. Also, I have kept the stock length on the swingarm. Thanks.

Thinking of planning a trip out to Kermit on Sept. 17th, 18th and 19th. Is this a good time of year to go there? Seems like the day temps won't be too hot or the nights too cold.

Haulinonthedunes, what do you think about the weather this time of year in Kermit?

Posted by: dezriderex

Thanks jetjock. Unfortunatly, next weekend is the only time I can go with hunting season and a few other things coming up. There will only be about 3 or 4 of us going on this trip, mainly to just check out the area and see how we like it. I have a 400ex and the other guys have raptors and a kx250. We usually head out to Glamis (actually Gordons Well) every year in February for Presidents Day, hopefully Kermit will be just as fun. I've been looking for good duning spots in New Mex., but can't find any decent ones. I sure wish they would open a small area of White Sands, they can spare just a little bit of the 120 square miles.
