93 db is the limit, and yes they do enforce, maybe a 1 or 2 db over grace.

You don't just "get a ticket" either.......I've been stopped coming out of Honeyman campground. They tested everyone entering the dunes there. Yes they tested EVERYONE, even my buddies bone stock Polaris Sportman 500 utility quad (and he blew a 84 db which is pretty darn quiet)

On my Banshee, with Toomey silencers I blew a 102 db. They said "you're not riding" and wouldn't let me enter the dunes. So like I said, they didn't ticket me, but did shut me down for the day.

There are patrols out in the dunes too. White or Green Ranger pickups, and we've also been surprised another day when a 400EX showed up, sporting red/blue strobes on it..........ranger guy was cool, but he was eyeing my parked banshee with the toomey silencers.......they know they don't pass dB, luckily I was shut off and parked at that time.

Best bet is to call up Cascade in Oregon and get some CSFX silencers. They're known to pass the sound check, so often the rangers will cut you some slack.

and before the punk kids in the crowd say "I'll just punch it and race outta there" (dumb move and gets the rest of us extra scrutiny) Its really hard to out run radio.........

Keep the noise in check or they'll just keep shutting down riding areas!!!

Check out the Cascade CSFX, quiet yet you can still run Toomey pipes.

don't worry about the limit worse case is a ticket

Do you need a spark arrestor at the dunes in Oregon?

You run the greatest risk of being hastled on the bigger holiday weekends. I have a KFX700 with dual HMF's, that blow over 100db's, and haven't had any troubles as of yet. However, I tend to stay away from the Dunes on the busy holiday weekends and events.

As far as I know, you need a US Forrest Service approved spark arrestor to ride on any of Oregon's designated public lands, which includes the Oregon Dunes. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I hear there are sound limits at the Oregon dunes, then agian I have a buddy who went up there and said there were guys everywhere with Banshee's running Toomey pipes? What's the real deal, my sand quads all have aftermarket exhausts and I don't want to just drive up there to have to turn aroudn and go home.

How much is the ticket....boy cops/rangers hate that, when you are just willing to pay.

93db....that's lower than stock!!!! Do they do the 24" test at a 45 degree angle from the exhaust? My wife's stock Rancher is at least 94db and my Raptor is like 104db!

Yes, I do have issues with the crackdown on sound limits for off road vehicles while you can drive your Harley with straight pipes anywhere you want.

i've yet to get a ticket, and i've ran at the oregon dunes probably 20 times. my pipe is well above 100. just don't be stupid. when riding in and out of parking shift up and lug it, then you can hit it when you get out in the dunes. don't worry, there are plenty of stupid people there to get the tickets for you if you're smart

I agree, this should be the other way around, we ride away from residential areas not in them, bikes are cars(like my 66 stang which is pretty loud)can drive anywhere and in most places your driving around people, houses etc.. they could care less how loud the bike/car is,,,, ride a quad 20 miles out side of town and its too loud you get a ticket or the cops chase you out of the area... don't make a bit of sense to me...

In oregon, The limit is 93, but you can get away with up to 95. My friends(riding full drag banshee) both got $75 tickets for being over 100dbs

Yes there is a sound limit i think like 96 or 98 db soemthin like that, but alot of people run aftermarket exhausts and most dont have any problems just dont run back and forth all day long by the staging areas and u should be fine, worst that will happen is you will get a ticket

i personaly wouldnt be worried about it, i doubt they would set there all day long and not let u ride and if they did there is plenty of other places to get ur quad out in the sand there. its not like theres only one entry point.

Ya i beleave u are right, u need a spark arestor for any of oregon's designated public lands but also i think that rule is more inforced in the wooded areas and trails than the dunes, i personaly have never heard or anyone getting in trouble for not having a spark arestor at the dunes, doesnt mean it hasnt happend tho
