I went there a few years ago when i visited a buddy in the muk. Ther pretty small no real big hills to speak off. You can explore the whole area in and hour or two. But if ya lived ther it would be a nice place to have in the back yard. Not much worth a trip just for it IMO.

I saw a little bit about Winnemucca dune in the Sand Mountian/Haloween thread.
Has anybody been there?
What is it like?
Can you go in Winter?
Here are a couple of bits I found online.
Sand lovers near Winnemucca bring their off-highway vehicles to the Winnemucca Sand Dunes, a small but scenic playground with no trails but plenty of open riding. The dunes are located just south of Winnemucca off U.S. 95. You may camp at the site or stay in Winnemucca. Contact the BLM&39;s Winnemucca Field Office for more information, 775-623-1500; www.nv.blm.gov.
This is the largest dune field in Nevada and is located approximately 10 miles (16 km) north and northeast of Winnemucca, Nevada. The eastern extent of the 40 mile (60 km) long dune field is located in the Bliss 15-minute quadrangle (approximately Lat. 41°07'N, Long. 117°45'W). The dunes do not reach heights of more than 100 feet (30 m), and mostly are stabilized by vegetation near the periphery of the dune field. Active migration, however, is occurring where the dunes cross U.S. Highway 95. The Nevada Department of Transportation removes sand drifts from the highway several times a year.
