LS Oklahoma is a great place to ride!

Thier are some things to watch out for. If its a windy day, you can expect "peaky" dunes. The dunes go from South to North, so if your going thay way ,ALWAYS remeber to ride slow, and if your going up hill, it WILL go down at anytime. Basically, ride with alot of COMMON SINCE, and you wont get hurt, and you'll have a great time. It is impossable to get lost, cause the Dunes are only 1500 acre's and thier is a cable fence around the hole park.

I have never talked to anyone that didnt really like the Dunes at LS, but the best part is the MANY trails, and Tree shots that you can ride, pretty much makeing your own trails up as you go.

Ride responsibly! and Have a great time!!!

Derek,

When thier is little to no wind te tops of the Dunes can get "rounded off" pretty fast, mostly because LS is such a small place it doesnt take 10,000 quads long to beat up the dunes. But when its WINDY(like today) the sand moves quickly and SMOOOOOTHS out, and the dunes start to PEAK!! its only dangerous if you are not obeying the rules of riding sand!

1) never go fast where you havent been before, sand can Change from hour to hour on a windy day!

2) always ride with someone(just in case)

3) never ride horizontal to a dune(especailly on the back side. Dune buggy's ,and Jeeps have to have a "run" to get over the bigger dunes, and if you parked or riding horizontal to the dune , they cant see you ,and .......... I have seen people get seriously hurt because of this.

4) always keep your head on a swivel!! BE AWARE of your surroundings! Alot of trails meet and intertwine, so if your ballz out banging throught the trails, you could meet someone doing the same thing coming right at you.

5) NEVER cross the drag strip!!! You wound'nt beleve the amount of people that get hurt thinking thier 25ex can get across the drag strip before the DRAG banshee's can get to the end! Those drag banshee's are coming 70+mph,and they are not seeing you, cause thier to worried about hanging ON!! LOL!!!

Anyways, like I said dont get to pumped and do anything you normally wouldnt do. Thier are some nice jumpes out thier, but I would not spend to much time on them, cause you WILL eventually get to brave, and screww up!! IT never fails, everytime I come across a group of Buddy's jumping a dune, I watch and can tell whats going to happen... They will keep jumping, Landings getting uglier and uglier, and sure enough one will JUMP-----FREEEZE!!! and BANG!!!!ROLLL!!!

BIggerisbetter.

P.S> I may be out thier this weekend, so If you see an ALL BLACK DS with Horns and BALLZ come say high, and tell your uncles, that I'm allways good for a couple passes down the OL' Strip!!img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

If you dont mind the Cold, WINTER is alot better than Summer!! simply because thier are not as many people, and the SAnd is always in good shape. And it also seems "idiots" cant stand cold weather either! thats another plus.

if you are speaking of Little Sahara in Utah, the place rocks, I can not wait to go back, not technical,
with a 4 stroke you need not bring paddles, but if youare speaking of the one in Arkansas or where
ever then I can't tell you

When in doubt, skin the throttle back and sling some sand up!

The part about getting braver and braver - you are correct sir. People zip around who are not beginners, but far from expert. they seem to grow an extra set of balls as the day goes on. Sometimes those balls get squashed. As my buddy who thought he had 4 balls and ended up with a broken collar bone would tell anybody their first time to Oklahoma:
Remember, it's not about taking unnecessary chances, it's about the whole weekend experience.

Any way last week we were riding at the dunes and i was riding right with them on my completly stock yfz and later hes like were going to oklahoma to little sahara. Any one can ride fast if they have suspension. Hes like its techniqual were gonna show you up bla bla bla. Thats why i was wondering how hard is LIttle sahara. Any info about it would be great.

i'm pretty experienced on the dunes and i know my limits on what i'm capable of doing and not doing.

Thanx for the advice on what it is like there. I wish we would go sooner but it won't be until spring when we go.

I guess that depends upon where you ride. There's a lot of steep stuff that most machines w/ or w/o paddles can't make. If I were going to make a trip to LS, Utah, I would not do it w/o paddles - no way. That pretty much stands for any deep sand as far as I'm concerned.

I actually road a buddies pred there on Saturday. He purchased 21" paddles the day before, but when he got home, he discovered the were wrong - he had to go w/o paddles in the sand. That pred (even on the bottle) wouldn't go anywhere. Sure as hell could get the rear end out though.

Paddles: The right tool for the job!

Derek,

If you don't have paddles, I have some 20x10x10 .160 Douglas w/ SkatTrak Extreme 8s that I don't/won't use. They're (rim & rubber) in very good shape. Actually, I have (2) sets. I want to switch my wife's over to 21's as well. For general duning, they're great. Hillshooting for me is better done w/ 21's.

I'll let either set go @ whatever you/anyone feel is a "reasonable" price. They're over $230 new. I just went out to look at 'em... (1) set still has the new tire "tit's" on 'em and the other just barely has them off. I rode my set of 20's maybe (3) times and my wife has riden hers perhaps (3) as well. No dent's/shreds/chunks/etc.

I'm thinking $150.00/set is more than reasonable given their condition. Buyer pays to ship.

I'm not desparate, but I don't need/want stacks of tires/wheels in my shop that I won't use.

Raptors may suck, but your uncle and his buddy may/will hand you your lunch if you're just running an all stock YFZ and they're built.

Don't know? Measure your bolt pattern.

If your intentions are to cruise the sand, they'd be fine. For fast hillshooting, you'd want 21s. If you don't have a fast machine, the 20s ought to work just fine.

How does the time of year affect the sand? Is it mainly a spring summer place to go? (Little Sahara, Oklahoma) Or is the winter just as good?
