OK, so now that everyone's blasted the Geckos.....WHAT IS the best ALL AROUND sand tire for general purpose, a little bit of everything duning? (NOT just hill climbing and drag racing) I'll be interested in the replies.

I had them for a while on my Raptor. There are better paddle tires out there. But I'll say one thing for them, they're tough!. Now that I have Turbo Paddles, I laugh at Raptors with Geckos trying to get up Choke Cherry at St. Anthony dunes. They usually don't make it.
But, on the other hand, on my girlfriend's Scrambler 500 2WD Geckos do better than 8 paddle Haulers. I don't know why. I did the test myself, same day same quad. I couldn't believe it, but it is true.
I guess the Srambler had the right tire speed to make the Geckos work.

If your not sand dragging or hill climbing, the Gecko is the perfect tire.
IMO, the people who hate them are the ones who have never owned them. I ran them for about 15 dune riding days. At the right tire pressures, they really aren't a bad tire.
They're a very tough tire too.
On a different note, try Turbo Paddles. They don't slide as well as the Geckos, but they work very well on my Raptor.

I have them and they are ok. If they are spinning too much, I just lean back a bit and the front end starts coming up. I think they are a good all around tire but would not use them for pure drag racing. It is kinda weird having the lean back on a steep hill to get better traction.

not worth having but they last good

i have a lt250r and i want your opinion about these tires...
Posted by: robarrior
ok. so i have the choice,, pay more for a better and lighter tire or do a small diet for the weight difference.... **** the diet then

I ride sand no more than once a year.
For this reason I love my $66 geckos,,,,best sand tire I have ever owned (only).

alpha is rite on and yes they are heavy as hell..

I love my gecko's
my 2 cents

If you just want your tires for playing on the dunes they will probably work for you but if you are a serious duner and like to climb the biggest dunes and drag race i would stay away from them.

the poeple I talked to that tried geckos on the KFX700 said their knobbies worked better in the sand. I thought they were exaggerating till I saw a KFX700 going up sand mountain with geckos. It was embarassing. He was going about 3 mph and the geckos were spinning like crazy.

sand sharks are cheap and better IMO.

The Geckos are a heavy tire. If you will be duning and that is it, then you need a lighter tire. If you will be hitting a bit of hardpack and/or mud, with your sand, then this is the tire for the all around. Have a set and have no complaints, just not the lightest..... But dern if they aren't tough!!!!!!

should've got some 10 paddles

Crap!! I got the Sand Stars and from what I hear they are the same as the Geckos!! If the Geckos are that bad I guess I'm in for some embarrasment out there

I'll be trying mine out next weekend too. Does anyone know if there is any good hill climbs in the Buttercup Valley area?

One of the guys I was riding with last weekend had them. They seemed to work fine for him. I did notice he was spinning a little though. I had really good luck with the sand stars. They were the only thing that was working good for me on that cruddy trip.

They are okay for just playing around in the dunes, they turn well and slide okay. But they don't have the grip to do any drag racing. Plus they are heavy as PHuK...

With this thread in mind we did some tire swapping last week out at Sand Mountain NV.
We tried a pair of geckos on a KFX400 and an ATC350X.
The Geckos have a nice feel, they turn and slide well.
However we found that they did not climb any better than a set of Holeshots.
The were better than Knarlys however.
I am probably going to put them on my ATC200X and get something else for the KFX.
Would like to hear other peoples actual comparisons, not just "they suck".
