Well Matt, you need a flag. Paddles are nice but not an absolute necessity. My 12 and 9 year olds get around the St Anthony dunes fine without paddles, and they are waaaaaaaaay bigger than the ones at Silver Lake. But they do help, don't get me wrong. Doubt you'll run into any age limits, but make sure you have off road stickers, they tend to check that even out here. Other than that, make sure it's running real good because sand sucks power big time, just like if you run on foot in it compared to hard pack.

One dune trip, and you will be hooked, so be prepared to become a sand junky. img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

jus make sure that ur quad is registered, and u have the appropriate stickers. depending on how powerful ur quad is, u might want to look at gettin paddles, u will become a sand junky tho, so it will be a worthy investment. the more powerful quads don't really need paddles as much as the less powerful quads, they tend to get stuck a lot. have fun!

Your bike does not need to be registered in any state to ride at Silver Lake Sand Dunes in Michigan. I've been up to Silver Lake many times with bikes that weren't registered and never had anyone question me about it. You have to buy a Michigan ORV sticker ($16, one time purchase, good for a year) and daily passes into the park ($4). That's it.
