Airing down 20's ain't gonna do crap 'cept maybe let sand between the tire and wheel.

Check out the tide charts and time your arrival to get there at low tide, and plan on leaving at low tide unless the sand looks good otherwise. Drive on the hardpack, and don't go past post 2 in your truck, unload there and ride the bike out to the dunes. Make sure you park up high enough that your truck doesn't float away though. BR>
If you feel yourself getting stuck, DON'T floor it! Just give 'er a little juice and ease her out. Momentum is the name of the game.

Hope that helps.

dabeechman: Yeah, I know, I guess the sarcasm didn't come through. All I'm saying is, you have to have a sidewall to bulge for airing down to do much!

good luck.it's crazy but that's the fun part..

the best part is trying to get passed the 4th pole, the sand is wicked right there and you have to gun it,that's the worst part, ..lol

what ever you do dont camp there, you will spend your whole day digging people out, this guy parked there for the day and said he helped at leat 20 cars out that day...

No you should be fine. I have seen a ford 2wd w/20s out in the dunes. but its probably pretty tore up after last week end.

Just air down and have fun. If I can make it in my Daewoo anything can make...unless the sand was as bad as it was the last time I was there. EVERYTHING was getting stuck it seemed like.

Just remember a long handled shovel, some carpet (haven't done that trick but I keep hearing about it) and you can make it.

Get as close to the water as you can without actually getting wet.

I got stuck in May (9-11th) not even as far as pole 2. The sand was soft all over. My stupid self didn't air down and I had to go high (again, go at low tide!) through soft sand. A Jeep pulled me out. Wanted like $40 (and would take me wherever I wanted to go). I dug myself out and gave him a five after he said he'd do it for free. A friend got stuck pulling a 28' toy hauler with an F-350 (non-dually) when he didn't air down. Also seen a semi (yes, 18-wheeler) get stuck. Something like 8-10 HD trucks pulled him out.

Dude, I drive a 2 wheel drive, REAR wheel drive mitsubishi mighty max. the thing is so light in the back end that it actually slides on the road when it rains. I air down to about 10 psi a piece on my tiny tires, and I make it out there no prob. The quad in the back does help with the weight on the sand though. I've even made it through some of the softer stuff during high tide. I'm heading out tomorrow (the 16th) and I probably won't even air down. If my truck can make it, ANY truck can make it. Plus there are plenty of people there more than willing to help ya out bro.

I headed out today without even airing dow. Stopped right at Pole 4. Almost got stuck, but I managed!

If you drive right it is actually hard to really get stuck. Even without airing down, as long as you have momentum, keep your wheels rolling smoothly without speeding up or down too quickly, and avoiding sharp turns, you should be fine. When you go to park in the softer sand, go in at a slow pace. When done for the day, idle out nice and easy till ya get to the harder packed sand.
