On this model I think you are referring to the black metal guard that covers the chain if so it is up to you. On the older hard tail honda models the chain cover merely encloses the chain. It really doesn't serve any other purpose. Now if planned on mud bogging then I may leave it on. The cover doesn't weigh very much and could prevent a thrown chain.

i am not sure how the guard is set up on the 200s but i know hondas and they have a piece of metal that protects the case from being hit from a loose or snapped chain i would keep it on. My 250x didnt have one when i bought it used the chain worn into the case and started leaking oil.

On my friends XR250 I heard it actually increases horsepower if you take it off

I have a 200s that i am converting in a half racer. should i take the guard off or leave it on. I ride in little water in mud. but not much. I do ride in the sand some.
