I never thought those stock tires would last, especially out in the desert. Well, 5 years later when I finally wore them out, what else could I do but replaced them with another pair of stockers. I know those things seem thin, but that is one of their virtues. Being supple, they form their shape around rocks, rather than fighting the rock and getting a puncture. They also contribute to the suspension and overall handling of the machine.

These tires have seen some disgusting terrain. I am now half way through my second set, and they haven't ever let me down!

Lots of thorns where I ride. I run fix-a-flat all the time. Ran Slime previously, but found it didn't work that well.

My buddy had Dirt Devils on his old 300, and I am pretty impressed with them.

Actually, I have a set of Holeshot XC's on the back right now (not on the stock rims). My boys have graduated from their 90's, and are just beginning to ride the Recon and 250EX. I figure the Holeshots make the bike considerably wider, so they are less likely to tip the bike over. Later I will go back to the stockers.

Those stock steel rims are heavy. Consider a rim change at the same time.

Mud lites

22x11-9 in the rear.

If you go much heavier than that you will lose a lot of power with your little 250.

I'm looking for some really tough, greater than 2 ply tires with deep lugs that will fit on my new 2005 recon.
The location where I hunt and use my ATV most is covered with brush that includes large wooden thorns and a few rocks. I am currently using slime in the stock Goodyear trackers and they are working out OK (until the tires wear down a bit). The stock tire sizes are: Rear 22X10-9 and Front 22X7-11. Any suggestions on what tires to buy (brand and size) would be greatly appreciated.

I am concerned a little about losing some power and/or stiffening the ride. However, I am also concerned that these stock Goodyear Tracker HPs won't stand up to the thorns. I guess we'll find out.

Thanks Recon Ranger. I have slime in my stock Goodyears right now, and they are fine. however as they start to wear down I'm sure I'll have problems. One of the things I dislike most about my new recon is the odd wheel/tire size. Why would Honda have done such a thing? Perhaps the Honda/Goodyear relationship.....to increase the odds that owners will replace their tires with Goodyears????

Anyway, I wouldn't mind getting some dirt devils, but from what I've seen online GBC doesn't make them in all my sizes (front and rear).
The only tires that are made in my stock sizes are the Gators, and they are significantly heavier than my Goodyears. But I certainly appreciate all the feedback. Keep it coming...
