hiem joints used in that application are high maintenance because hiems were never designed to be used in that direction but for push/pull rotating application
if you run those even the greased ones they will be better but still not last as long as a ball joint style

Ive had my LSR +2 amrs with the hiem joints on my 400ex for the p2 years and they have no play at all. Ive crashed it hard a few times also so im surprised they are still intact. I have found that the ball joints on the spindals are pretty crappy, atleast the boots. I guess LSR is using SEALED ball joints now instead of those useless umbrella style boots. Problem is they are 32 bucks a piece.

I was wanting to know if anyone else has had problems with the heim joints wearing out on the upper a-arms? Mine have some excessive movement in them. I don't want to pay $18+ for each heim joint from Lonestar. I was thinking of replacing them with commercial heim joints with grease fittings. I am waiting for a quote on the price, but I know that the precision chromoly heim joints with grease fittings cost 14.50 each. I also know that the standard commercial heim joints without grease fittings cost 6.50each. I believe they wore out because they are "self-lubricating". I know that I would prefer to lubricate them myself rather than to depend on a thin layer of teflon to apply lubrication. I got my prices and plan on getting my heim joints from Quality Bearings & Components

methane, on the LSR a-arms for the 400ex, the heim joints are used on the upper a-arms where they attach to the frame. They have ball joints at the spindles. I had to replace on of them about a year and half ago. I noticed some extra movement and saw that the ball joint was about to come apart. I am thinking of doing away with the heim joint altogether and have a regular styled bushing joint attached to a piece of threaded rod so i still have the adjustability that i had with the heim joints. I may cut the ends off of my old a-arms and attach them to some threaded rod use them. i'll add some grease fittings and have some brass bushings made for them. Of course I may just buy some new heim joints just so i can go riding sooner. I am already replacing the bushings in the lower a-arms with brass ones as soon as my friend gets them made. I let you know how it turns out whatever I decide to do.
