Thanks for all the help guys, I think its just between the raptor 250 and 350 lol

I think I can offer you some insight to help you out and I'm probably going to sound like reconranger in a way....

Myself, I'm well over twice your age and I have owned and also raced many sport quads since back in the 80's.... I've owned/raced...

Honda TRX250R's
Honda TRX250X
Honda TRX300EX
Kawi Tecate 4
Kawi Majove 250
Kawi Lakota 300
Suzuki Quadsport LT250S
Suzuki QuadRacer LT250R
Suzuki Quadzilla LT500R
Yamaha YFS200 Blaster
Yamaha YFM350X Warrior
Yamaha YFM350X Warrior (highly modded)
Yamaha YFZ350 Banshee
Yamaha YFZ450

Now, let me restate that I am more than twice your age.
But can I make a confession to you???
The guys are going to laugh... but I hit my Yamaha dealer last week... looking for a Raptor 250.

Now I am going to address your 250-to-250 concerns while explaining why I went to look at one.

You gotta understand... right now you are riding a large ATV.
A 460-some pound (DRY) hunk of ATV, powered by a plain piston port 2 stroke and PVT.

Going to a Raptor 250, you get a smaller ATV with a 250cc 4 stroke based on a trick bike engine and driven by a fully manual 5 speed. Plus this joker only weighs 313 pounds.

I mean I'm enthused about this... because I'm over drag racing everything... and I'm over having the fastest top speed. Instead I want something light and quick that I can flick around at will. I haven't seen or rode it yet, but I'm guessing it is all these things.

I really think you'd be floored at the difference of going from a low-tech automatic tank to a higher tech 5 speed manual that weighs 150 lbs less. I mean that's like loosing a passenger off the bike.

But anyways, here is my top list of readily available sport trail quads.

Z400/KFX400/DVX400
TRX400EX
TRX300EX
Mojave 250
Lakota 300
Raptor 350
Warrior 350
Raptor 250
Blaster 200

I'm also like the other guys here. I'm no longer all that impressed by the Warrior 350 and Raptor 350. It was impressive when it came out in 1987... but now it is 2007... 20 years later. But that also goes to show it's time-proven. So it's a great ride for what it is. It's sure no 400... and it doesn't feel or handle quite as good as some of the smaller models. It's kind of there in the middle in a class of it's own.

If I was 14 again I would be ripping around on the new Raptor 250. Don't be put off by the fact that it is only a 250, because it is a very hefty 100 pounds lighter than that Raptor 350 you have been considering (which has a low tech absolutely ancient engine!). Forget reverse, with something that light anybody can trun it around with ease.

If you must have reverse, then look at the superb Honda 300EX! It is heavier than the 250, but way better than the 350....

So basically a raptor 350 is a no no?

Well I would not say the Rappy350 is a no no!

My Wife has one, and I've ridden it several times. Yes, the engine is old school but it is not a junker. It is totally bullet-proof and they run forever. The problem is they are just lower on the technology scale for a sport machine ....

But I will say it is pretty quick if you short-shift it and don't over-rev the thing. The 6-speed allows you to go pretty good, and it has a decent top speed (probably 55mph or so)....

The handling is nice, the ergonomics are very good. Nice seat position and nice fat YFZ450 style foot-pegs. I think they area decent trail quad.....

If you are going to race it is not the best choice. But outside of the old school push-rod 2-valve engine they are a good trail and fun machine....

Alright so I have been on a lot of quads/Dirt bikes, in my life, but most of them have been semi-auto to auto. I am 14 years old and about 5.4". I have owned the following quads, PW50 3 WHEELER , Scrambler 90 , and Polaris 250. I am currently looking to upgrade though, I'm looking for something defiantly sporty looking. I also want to give clutch a go, but it needs to have reverse.

I have taking a big liking to the Raptor 350, but not sure if there are any better options out there? I'm looking for something a bit faster than my current quad, So maybe you guys can help?

Thanks

I was looking at the Suzuki 400s, the Zs i think, but i thought they might be a bit big for me?

Yea i have been liking the 350 and 250 raptor, only thing is that 250, wont be available used, for a couple of months, since its an 2008, i might have to stick with the 350 just because of that.

Posted by: Jester2899

Alright ill look at those, thanks

Ha ha thats a long time ago =]

It doesn't have to be a 250, My dad knows I am a good rider and a safe rider, so anything 400 and under should be good.

Its not so much racing, but when i am in trails that have a bit of open area, i go fast, and like to go over small jumps, so its between the 350 and 250 raptor, I will have to see which one is more available on the time i sell my quad..

Can anyone suggest another place other than ebay that will help me sell my quad?
