The 450R is the king of big desert endurance races like Baja and Vegas to Reno....you know, like riding 500- 1000 miles non stop! Seriously, if you aren't on a 450R, you probably won't even finish the race, much less win. That's "reliability"!
As for handling, I wouldn't pick either one for tight, technical, woods trails. I like the R for long screaming fast rides in the open desert, and I like the YFZ for play riding (informal motocross) and freestyle jumping.

I am either going to purchase the 04-05 Yamaha YFZ450 or 04-05 Honda TRX 450r. Which one is going to be the better/reliable quad? Thanks for the info!!

both are very good quads. i think the trx450r will be better on the trails than the yfz450 and the yfz450 will be better on the track. so i guess it just depends what you want. i whould say they are equal in reliablity.
