I pick the Z as the best all-around machine. It handles great, and the motor has great hop-up potential with just a few simple mods like opening up the airbox, a UNI air filter, and an aftermarket pipe. Mine has proven to be bulletproof!

I do prefer the 400EX for very tight, slower more technical trails. It has an engine that doesn't mind being lugged down and ridden slowly, where the Z prefers to be reved out more and ridden fast. Again, handling is excellent and the machine is bulletproof.

Hey Reese. long time no hear from.

Any plans on making anymore Legally Blond movies?

If I was buying new, I'd get the Z. Used, I'm not so sure. There seem to be a lot of good deals on used EX's right now. I've seen 440's go for under $3K and I'd take one of those over a stock Z. Just my $.02.

And where were you guys when Mr Scrambler was making these comments?

"The 400 sucked using my normal second gear powering up a hill...if I didn't keep it pinned that lousy thing would find me headed backwards down the hill! It just flat does not have the right balls to gear ratio! My younger brother had the exact same year 400EX, and it suffered from the exact same lame torque."

"All the while I had kept a Warrior around because of the fact that it was so reliable, and had the perfect mix of torque and gearing, which allowed for stable powering up a hill without the need to stay in the top of the powerband. A well designed and balanced four-stroke thumper will allow you to do that, all of which the 400EX was not. Yes, if you wanted to always have to keep the RPM's up like you were on a two-stroke, you can make a 400 EX respond and climb about anything, but then, does this not defeat the concept of a four-stroker?"

I can creep in 3rd. Have no clue where this guy is coming from?????? BR>

Yep.

Like I've said before, I've spent a ton of time on the 350. Only thing I liked better was at slow speeds it would turn when the EX would try to push out and I'm sure a little toe adjustment would change that. I question whether the guy has ever really been on an EX. The engine is torquey as can be at low rpm's. Sounds like he wants a Briggs and Stratton.

Weren't they all yellow in 2003? You might check out the DVX or KFX for a more manly color. LOL! BR>

On the manly-man color chart, yellow ranks like right above pink and right below purple. BR>

I've owned both and I agree with Recon's post.

I didn't see it, someone just bashing like an idiot. On any 400 I have been on I climb hills in 2nd or 3rd, rarely even need 3rd. And that is on some nasty terrain too.

'03, and that is the supposed year of faulty frames. BUT, my friends has an '03 that has been beaten pretty bad, and his is fine. I had an '04 that I aired out quite a bit and it held up as well.

No, they had white.BR>
And I still don't get the yellow thing.

the new 2007 black Z's are pretty sweet!

Posted by: cr125predator

I personally would go for the Z.

my buddies z400 isnt much faster then my 400ex so power isnt a big deal but mine is better through mud and on rocky terain because it doesnt have to be reved out and on drags i stay right with him now nthat my 400 has some parts onit and whenever i race circuit i always win because oin my opinion the 400ex is more balanced but thats just me ooo and its more reliable by a lot my friends 06 z400 doesnt even start half the time and my 01 always runs

The ex is better for trail riding, Z400 is better for racing around a track

Posted by: v2rider

Im more of a GREEN guy myself

Posted by: rt180rider

alright, some of you might have seen my previouse post raptor660 vs 400ex or z400. now its between the z and the ex. this is what i now. the z has liquid cooling when the ex has air. the z has reverse and a couple more hp's. the ex being a honda is known to be tough or bulletproof. i know that the z will cost a little more. wich is best for trail riding?

1984 honda odyssey fl250 $1500

Posted by: rt180rider

i know that this aplies to any used quad but i also herd that you had to watch out for a cracked frame on a used z. what was the first year that the z came out?

Posted by: rt180rider

yellow isnt girls nor manly its unisex hahaha lolimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> yellow isnt that bad. kinda sharp lookn, i like the white and blue too

Posted by: rt180rider

yah i like green too, lime green! so a dvx or a kfx would be nice. what about the dvx. i know that it has a suzuki enginge in it. well i guess its suzuki and kawasaki now. is it as good as the z. its about the same isnt it?

Posted by: rt180rider

ohhhhhhh yeah!!! checked out a 2007 z at suzuki.com sweeeeeeet! it little more than what i want to spend...but.....sweeeeeet!

I'd take the Z if you're planning mostly sand. I just bought an 05 ex and love it. I like the upgraded shocks and water cooling on the Z, but I liked the trail manners of the ex more. The ex has reverse on 05 and newer bikes. Asking which bike is better is like asking who makes the best shoes. Compare the specs to your riding style and locations and if possible test ride one of each. They are both great bikes, imho, but I trust Honda.
