If you only have $3500.00, then you are going to be hardpressed to find a competitive atv for MX. You are probably looking at more like $6-7000.00 for a competitive quad. That would include a used bike, a budget for upgrades, and full protective gear. XC racing is considerably cheaper to get into, you could easily pick up a sport quad used with most of the needed upgrades already installed.

I used to race karts and you will be getting more money in it that you think. To be competitive you need to have a good car. On quads it is mostly rider. And your not going to need no where near 10-15k on amature ranks. What kind of qaud are you wanting? What class are you planning on running?

On MX bikes, if you are a good rider you can win on anything. So that might be a good idea to take the 2 wheel route.

It seems like in order to be able to race MX on an ATV your gonna have to somehow have like 10-15k minimum. And I'm not really interested in riding trails too much....I was really just wondering if anyone had any ideas about what the best quad would be to race and not spend 10-15k and still be somewhat competitive (<---probably a tough question) and if there is no real answer to that then i was wondering if anyone here happened to know anything about shifter karts. I saw a decent looking 125 race ready (2003) shifter kart for $2500......but anyways I'd rather get the ATV but im not sure id be able to get one and race with about 3½k

i dont even think they have dunes and sand and stuff like that on the east coast. im probably wrong on that well in MAryland I dont think it is. and as for the question though I'm probably gonna trade in or sell my 2000 RM 125 and put some money with it and just find me a good used 250F and keep riding MX on the bikes. quads...too expensive....shifter karts...too expensive....I think I could get my bike race ready a lot cheaper than quads. and a lot of time the parts arent as necessary as they might be on an ATV so I think I'll just stick with my 2 wheels for now.
