The V force would be an excellent machine for a beginning rider. It's powerful enough you wont be bored with it easily, it has good ground clearance for trail rides, should be easy to learn on and enjoy even with more experience. It should be a great do all quad. I personally dont want one but I've been riding for several years and it's just not my cup of tea. I have ridden one however and I did enjoy it. It seems pretty potent, has it's drawbacks but so does everything else. I think for a beginning rider it would be a better choice than the YFZ450.

I bought a vforce and love it .I had not owned an atv since 88 been using friends rides the last couple of years and caught the bug again.Don't let the weight fool you it will pull the front end but I feel it's controllable.It handles the trails really well.

The KFX700 is its own animal. Some will Love it, and some will Hate it. I happen to Love it. I make a habit out of taking people up on the opportunity to ride every different ATV I can get my hands on. I have ridden everything from a Breeze to a YFZ450. I will say this for the 700, it may not be the best at everything, but it does everything pretty well. Enough so, that I personally feel that it is the most versitile all aound Sport Quad on the market today.
On the plus side:
Great Torque
Low center of gravity
Good ground clearance
Climbs hills with ease
Easy to ride
Makes you feel like you can go anywhere
On the minus side:
Getting use to going down hill
Not the best on gas milage
Heavier than other Sport Quads
Makes you think you can go anywhere

I have ridden both, and this is what I can tell you. Depending on the type of ridding and the kind of terrain you will be riding on, they are apples and oranges.
I ride heavily rutted, muddy trails, and under those conditions, the YFZ is no match for the Big 700. Here is why. Ground Clearance! The Shaft drive on the 700 gives it more ground clearance and the 700 still has a very low center of gravity. The main thing you will notice is the combination of the Auto Trany and the second to none Torque of the 700, which makes most obstacles of little concern.
The YFZ has a disadvantage with its chain drive (Less Ground Clearance) and I felt that I had to keep the RPM's up to negotiate the technical sections of the trail. If the Dunes are your thing, then it is NO contest, YFZ all the way. In fact I am currently considering selling my KFX400 and getting a YFZ.

In all honesty, the KFX700 is more than wide enough already. The one thing that you might consider is stronger Tie Rods.
As far as performance upgrades are concerned, the Dual Exhaust is a good way to boost performance along with the other necessary changes (Filter & Jets), but be careful not to exceed the noise limitations of the state you live in. It's becoming more and more of an issue every day. It's the new catch-all complaint by the ATV Haters Association.
The potential of the 700 is yet to be fully understood, but one thing is for sure if you want to get the most out of it, you will need to learn as much as you can about the Auto Trany. This is the area that you will see the biggest gains for the least amount of money.

I'm looking to buy an atv, I am new to this sport. Really interested in the kfx700 for its torque, styling, and auto-transmission. I know it might be too much for a beginer but the automatic can allow me to concentrate more on the throttle rather than the rpms which maybe does make it less difficult to ride, also the 516 lb weight makes it less vulnerable to wheelies and spinning tires. So my question is, will i be able to control it, if not then why? If i do get it i'll take it easy at first. Oh yeah, i'll be doing mostly trail riding.

Ok, i'm sticking with the kfx since rpm convinced me. The ground clearance advantage really affects my decision also the reverse gear.
Now some questions on mods, this thing is full of power so later on when i'm more skilled i'll add on a-arms that are stronger and 1" wider with a 1" wider axle. Do you guys think these mods would be necessary. I'm also thinking of dual stainless steel mufflers which would look sweet with a lava red kfx.

liek the other guys ahve said, don't ride stupid and remeber there is ALOT of power between your legs. If you do underestamate it you will learn the first time you crash...sometimes it is better to crash because then you know exactly where your limits are

When I joined the board, indicating that I would be purchasing one in the next six months or so, either the wife or husband suggested I buy theirs, so I went to browse some of their old posts and found out why they were selling it. Some of their complaints were addressed by others in the threads, but I thought I would mention it.

IMO auto tranny isnt all its cracked up to be,.. i feel like i have more control with manual clutch and tranny and a kfx700 isnt exactly the easiest to throw sideways in a turn, but still fun. If you just want a bike to hop on and have some fun and you wont be gettin into really "extreme" riding the 700 is great for you, and looking at your age it sounds like you would have the most fun with a kfx400 or 400ex
