Both machines would work well for hunting. While the Eiger would probably work fine for plowing the AC might be a little better because of the added weight. As far as ice fishing, I'd rather have the lighter of the two for driving on ice. Both machines have Suzuki's motor in them but the Eiger would be a little quicker. It really comes down to what you prefer. Between these two, I'd go with Eiger but I'd get a semi-auto because I like to shift.

Little by little it's getting harder to tell the difference between Arctic Cat, Suzuki and Kawasaki because of the alliances. AC is getting the scrap while Suzuki and Kawasaki are keeping the lean beef. (Refering to AC getting the 650 Kawasaki motor while Suzuki and Kawasaki get the 700cc motor. Also the same with the 400 sport quads except for the AC plastic. Soon there will be Honda, Yamaha, Bombdeere, Suzusakicat (also a well known drink), and Polaris. Buy the model that the other two are trying to copy. Example 1: Z400 came before the KFX400 or AC400 so buy Suzuki, Example 2: Prairie 700 came before the Twin Peaks 700 or AC 650 so buy the Prairie, and Example 3: Eiger came before the AC 400 so buy the Suzuki.

Seems like both machines are pretty comparable. Arctic Cat 400: electric 4x4 button, IRS, 4.8 gallon tank, rear disk brake (probably on the driveshaft before the suspension), 644-lbs. Suzuki Eiger: manual 4x4 lever, SRA, 4.0 gallon tank, rear drum, under 600-lbs. Looks like they would both do well (why not get both and compare over time?). The Eiger has a low range transmission, dont remember if the AC did or not. I went with the Eiger due to price, performance, and hopefully reliability. So far, no problems w/ 150 miles of tough trail riding. Getting around 22-25 mpg. Still tough to make a choice w/all the quality machines out there. Seems like dealer service after the sale is the real guessing game. Good luck.

Hi all, just thought I might be able to get some advice. My hubby and I are buying our first atv, and we have it narrowed down to two. We are looking at the arctic cat 400 4x4 automatic and the suzuki eiger 400 4x4 automatic. They both include the winch and steel plow, and are priced really well. The eiger would be 5400 out the door and the ac 5700. My hubby will be using it to plow snow, hunt, and ice fish. We would also be trail riding. Any advice would really be appreciated!

Thanks for the advice. I am going to keep doing a little more research on this site. It seems to be really helpful.

Hi again. Just checking around and doing some research about the arctic cat 400i auto. Was wondering if anyone else saw that it ranked last on atv television? They gave it some pretty harsh reviews. We were close to buying one and now not so sure. Any opinions on this? Are these reviews true or are they just being paid to support one machine over another? Thanks.

If you saw the same show on Atv television they were reviewing a 2003 model. I think the '04 will be better with the electric 4x4 and new brake master cylinder.
