but it lacked a fan behind the oil radiator or water radiator
There's a 6" fan that's well shielded back behind the oil cooler, It is hard to see.
Good luck with the Griz. A little different than what you were originally looking for but lots more machine.

SmokinBarrel, you did a good job. You knew the bikes you liked and sat on them and saw what you liked and what you didnt. I think you will really like the Grizzly, great machine. Good luck with the new quad.

hey smokinbarrel, I must say that you made a fine choice on your machine. I think you'll really like your Grizzly. I love mine and have no complaints. Given the fact that I paid $7000 for mine, I'd say you got a sweet deal. I guess that geographic related pricing doesn't only pertain to houses. Now, if I may make a couple of suggestions.........first, when you can afford it, buy a better set of tires. I ditched my stockers for a set of ITP 589's and it was a wise decision. I can go through stuff now that I couldn't even think of going through with the stock tires. Second, you may think about buying some wheel spacers to gain a little stability on sidehills. The Grizz is a little top heavy and benefits greatly from wider tires and wheel spacers. I have 26-9-12 fronts and 26-12-12 rears on mine with 1" spacers and they made alot of difference in stability. Go to highlifter.com for wheel spacers. One warning......don't try doing any doughnuts on it. Machines with IRS don't take kindly to it, as I realized while flying through the air without my quad after being pitched off trying to do a doughnut. Ride safe, bro'.

P.S.
I'll be up in your neck of the woods (30 minutes south of Columbia to be exact) in November for a hunting trip. You're more than welcome to come out hunting and riding with us if you have the chance.

hey old dog, I tried sending you a P.M., but something went wrong, so I'll just type it here. Yea, I ride at Croom periodically. Me and my buddies ride at Croom and also ride the dirt bikes at various mx tracks around Florida. I bought my Grizz at Barney's Yamaha in Brandon. I'm pretty tight with the guys over there, so when you get ready to buy your atv, let me know and I'll talk to them and see if I can get them to beat any other dealer's prices.......no promises, but I'll try. Gotta go, talk to ya' later.

glad to hear you like it smokinbarrel.....maybe we can do some ridin' when I'm up in Columbia in November for my hunting trip. I'm sure you'll like that Grizz. I'll let you know what the exact days are when I know for sure. Later......

Where at by St. Louis do you live Smoking barrel and MPMAN. The people at Haden's (just north of Bowling Green) seem pretty friendly and answer any questions you have. They seem much more friendly than the people at Bob Shultz but thats just my experience. By the way I live in Troy Mo, about 40 miles north west of St. Louis.

Where did you end up buying it at?
Thanks!

Cool....as soon as I get my trailer hitch the rest of the way installed, that is where I am heading. I think I will try the one in Columbia first since it is closer to me. (Lake of the Ozarks)
Hope you enjoy your new quad!!!! Keep us posted.
Thanks!

By the way, would Procycle haggle with you on price? Some places will not come down any. (not bad prices to start with though)
I am so excited....I am like a kid in a candy store....But, I just dont know exactly which one I want to buy. Been there???? LOL

I am actually suprised that they did honor Abernathy's price since it was out of state. I figured they would only beat the local dealers. Cool.....don't have too much fun!!! img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

I live down at the Lake of the Ozarks.
SmokinBarrel, hows the new quad???
Posted by: MPMAN21
CLOSER -- I have to agree with SmokinBarrel. I road several quads from Honda to Yamaha to Suzuki and I just really like the Kodiak. I think alot of it was how easy it was to drive and to turn around. I also like that it was an automatic. Though I actually want the 450, due to price, I will probaby end up getting the 400 instead. Yamaha is suppost to announce the new '04 quads on their website June 4th at 9pm pacific. I wander if the prices will drop on the '03's since everyone will be wanting a new model? I have heard that they are like car dealers and do not start shipping the new model until around September. But anyway
Before you buy, it is a very good idea to visit a dealer that sells more then one brand of quad. That way you can compair them side by side. Also, make sure that you test drive them before you buy. No two types of quads drive the same. I have heard good things about both Yamaha and Honda, but as with anything, you can still get a lemon. Just do your research and make an informed decision. Dont trust the sales person to be very open about their weaknesses or flaws. Have fun and happy quad hunting.

So, my choice, I ended up purchasing a Yamaha Grizzly 660, Tan colored! How about that for a 360!
If you did a 360, you would have been going in the same direction. I think you did a 180.

Well, after weeks of reviewing the specs. for the Kodiak 450, Eiger & Foreman, I made a decision and bought one today, Thurs. But, before I made my final decision, I decided to see the ATV's in person, sit on them and see which one is most comfortable to me. I sat on the Kodiak 450 first, great machine, in fact that is the one I wanted. But, I didn't pick the Kodiak 450 because it seemed to small for me, it was as if I was sitting in a Toyota Corolla (compact in size). So, I moved to the Suzuki Eiger 400, Wow! a big bike, great feel, but it lacked a fan behind the oil radiator or water radiator, and the 4WD switch, I felt, was a bit cheap as well as no guard in front of the Speedometer for protection. Then I moved on to the Foreman! Man, awesome bike as well! I love the Electric Shift, basically, an all around wonderful bike, but not as comfortable to me, or the feel wasn't right! And the ground clearance could become an issue. Surprisely, it seemed small, but bigger than the Kodiak 450. So, my choice, I ended up purchasing a Yamaha Grizzly 660, Tan colored! How about that for a 360! I paid $6132.50. So, how did I do? Was it a good choice? I didn't really research the specs on the grizzly much, since I felt it was out of my budget! I hope it's a beauty, because I plan to have it along time!
Thanks to all on this site for the info, and guidance!

Yamaguy- Actually, I'll be 30 minutes North of Columbia, gun hunting I assume! Actually, I'd like ride with you guys! If it isn't the first weekend of gun season, I could go the second weekend of gun season.

MPMAN- ProCycle, Springfield, MO.
Posted by: SmokinBarrel
Originally I was going to buy from Abernathy's (TN). But, they didn't have the color I wanted. But, Procycle did. Procycle's prices weren't bad, but they did honor their "match price" policy.

Yamaguy- The grizzly is on bad 4-wheeler! I had it out this weekend, at that bike can flat out do some 4-wheelin! I think I'll take your advice and purchase larger tires, and some spacers. The bike did seem a bit top heavy on the hills. Made me a bit uncomfortable, but other than that, I am totally satisfied with the bike! The power is unmatched!
By the way, this is the color and bike I chose:

I live in St. Louis, near the intersection of Hwy 40 and 170 (Galleria Mall Area).

mpman - I love the Grizzly! I'm currently building a shed in St. Louis, so I can store it up here. It's currently at my twin brothers house in Springfield, MO. I don't have storage for here in STL. I'd like to take it out one of these weekends and ride, but I don't have it up here. But, I can truly say, after riding it after I got it, it is awesome. That is one badazz ATV!! Besides being a belt drive, and not a direct shaft, I believe it will perform well. I think I made a great decision.

Closer- I didn't choose the Arctic Cat because of reputation. Someone on this forum would probably disagree with me, but I haven't heard much good about Arctic Cat. Although, it is my understanding that Suzuki makes the motor for Arctic Cats? I believe there are better made ATV's on the market, especially after my thorough research prior to purchasing. In my opinion, and from what information I've gathered, specs, word of mouth, etc......in order of preference (again from research) the following is a good guide to ATV's:
1. Yamaha Kodiak 450
2. Honda Foreman 450
3. Suzuki Eiger 400
The Honda and Suzuki run parallel, but the Kodiak is one bad mofo! An excellent bike for money. If you want to stay cheaper than that, I'd go with the Honda Rancher 350!

Smokinbarrel, congrats on your new purchase, you did get a good deal, my friend bought one from J&W in washington MO and paid more than that by a couple hundred. Might see you around.
yamahaguy I'm the gun toting, Bible believing, right-wing conservative redneck biker your mother warned you about.

Yamaguy, when I read your reply, I thought it was me talking! I'm in Tampa, considering the same machines and have a hunting trip scheduled in South Carolina the first week in November! We probably shopped the same places and hunt the same places. Do you ever ride your bike at Croom, or do you hate crowds? I'd like to hear where you got the best price on a Grizzly. I'm new to this forum and don't know if you can send PM's, if not, respond and I'll send you my e-mail addy. Thanks!

Hi New to the forum so excuse me if i'm not working things right. Just getting started with the atv world. I need some helpand everyones opinion. Looking at the cat 300 just for hunting pulling deer out of the woods too old to drag them out or at least that's what I told the wife. How do the cats stand up with other brands of atv. Looking for a dependable machine. What do you guys think?
