polarigirl,

I really like my 99 Recon that I purchased new. Has over 400 hours on it now. Great quad. Mine has not had any problems. I have just kept the oil and air filter cleaned. Change the spark every year.

Please read this report on the Honda Recon

polarigirl,

If it is in good shape that is a good price.

ATVGurl,

I have seen a dog eat toothpicks and I can't imagine you being that sick but if you were I feel your pain or I witnessed the dog's pain and that is sick. WOW

I owned a Recon for awhile. It was an '03 Recon ES. I liked it, but outgrew it kinda quick. At has lots of torque for a little quad. Very easy to maneuver, and being a Honda it was bullit proof. They're a little hard to start when cold. It would be a great quad for a kid. We gave our daughter to choice of the Recon or the Rally, she chose the Rally (I think 'cuz it is an automatic). Hubby even liked "playing around" on it - it is definately a fun quad to ride. The only down side is outgrowing it. There wasn't anything I didn't like about it. The stock tires weren't even too bad (IMO). --Mrs. Q

NO WAY!! You Polaris die hards are looking at a HONDA??!! I can't believe my eyes!!!! JK! You know we love our Honda and it is so realiable. I doubt 'your son's name here' would beat it up anymore than you have seen Racinaki and me abuse the Rancher! I'm glad he'll have one and can go riding with us! Then you don't have to feel so guilty! Call us when you get it!

PS)Tell Polariman that the broken battery case that happened Sunday is covered under our extended warranty YAY!!!!

Posted by: ATVGurl

That does sound like a very decent price. I know Polariman will do well at looking it over. Is it an ES or manual shift?

I think it is a pretty good-sized quad for the boys, whether it's for (it is so hard not to type their names on here!!!) the older one or if he outgrows it and the younger one uses it. I don't know if you remember but a guy we've ridden with has his 9-year old boy on one. Not condoning children on ATV's that are too big, but I am very amazed at how that little boy handles that recon and he goes through everything.

PS) sorry we couldn't ride or anything this weekend. I was sicker than a dog

Thanks guys. Yes Chet, I was that sick It only lasted a day, though, so I was glad about that!! Only 8 more and I'm a pro BR>
Hope you're feeling better today, Polarigirl. Let us know when you want to go riding again. This weekend is a no-go, but maybe next weekend?

Looking at possibly purchasing a 2000 Honda Recon for my son. Although prefer Polaris, this might be sold at such a good price we can't pass it up. Can anyone let me know any pro's/con's of the Recon. Thanks!

Posted by: polarigirl

Thanks! Think we might just have to get this for my son. I'm kinda concerned about him being too big for it - he weighs 200 and is nearly 6 foot tall - only 14 - got a big boy on my hands! But I figure since the price is right may not be able to pass it up as I have an 8 year old that will be able to ride it soon. Just don't know if the ol' Honda will get along with all the Polaris in our garage! haha....

Posted by: polarigirl

Thanks for the replies folks - Think if the price holds at what it was quoted to my son, we'll have to get it - Polariman will just have to swallow his pride and make room in the garage for a Honda!!!!!

Posted by: polarigirl

Yeh, well the price is going to be too good to pass up - otherwise you know we wouldn't be adding no Honda to the lineup!

NO WAY! they covered it under the warrenty....couldn't ask for anything better than that!

This would be for the 14 year old - but figured if he grows out of it, the youngest will be into it soon. It's a manual shift - which he shouldn't have problems with since he's used to it on his dirt bikes. Oh yeh, i'm sure polariman will go through it with a fine tooth comb. I'm thinking the kid is just wanting some money that is selling it. Has the registration, etc. with it so at least know it isn't a hot item plus helps knowing the family.....I'd be more nervous about it if i didn't know the people selling it.

Bummer on being sick ATVGurl - I think I have the crud today - sore throat, etc. Couldn't be from this lovely weather we've had lately! Weather stunk anyway, so doubt we would have gotten to ride anyway.

I like my 01' Recon. It has been a good little quad. Top speed is 45.9mph with a long stretch. My Recon is tough to choke in the cold weather. It always starts with a little gas and a push of the button. But then will stall out as soon as I walk away for a second. Once it is warm it is fine. I find that if I pull the choke out 3/4 it works a little better. I wish it had a better towing limit. I don't like where the hitch mounts. I like the stock Goodyear tires and "knock on wood" haven't had a problem with them. The tires work well in different situations. The tires are about half worn and original. I have alot of miles on the tires. I wouldn't worry about your sons weight but he might outgrow the Recon as he gets taller. By that time he'll want a fast sport quad and as you said your 8 year old can ride it. As long as the 2000 Recon wasn't mistreated it should be great. I wouldn't worry about the Recon and the Polaris although the garage might be a little disheveled for awhile. The Recon is a little scrapper. The bigger they are the harder they fall.

What was the price on the 2000 Recon?

Posted by: Coyotechaser

Yes, it is a good price. Sometimes a cheaper price makes you question why. Just look it over really good to make sure there's nothing wrong with it. The Recon is really light so you can tip it up on the rear rack to look over the underneath. (Set parking brake and turn gas off before tipping it up.) Check the oil, shifting, listen to the motor, etc.... It might just be a kid that wants some quick money. It also may just need brakes or tires. Then again it might just be a good deal. Good luck.

Can they do another name for when you hit around 700/800? Maybe another around 1200/1500? Top 20 Pro Rider, Top 10 Pro Rider, or maybe GNCC Pro Rider or something. Just an idea.
