Artic Cat is more utility oriented but a nice machine.

Polaris 500 HO is faster and has a 'locked' front end for which the Cat does not.

If you are using the quad more for work then the Cat is better. If you are wanting to play more then the Polaris may be what you want (MUCH faster and a locked front end in 4X4).

I am in the market for a new atv, and currently have a 1996 300 kaw 4x4. I know that I want 1) part time 4 wheel drive and also a belt drive. I will mainly use the machine for trail riding, yard work pulling a small trailer, and plowing a 400+ foot long drive way. I live in SE Mn. Your input would be useful in making my purchase. Oh buy the way I am an old timer (retired) and just want a good all around machine to have some fun with.

thanks

What model of cat did you get?? I am looking at the 500I or 500 and maybe the 375. I think that I want the 500cc size but realy not sure yet. I know it has to be part time 4 wheel drive, because the 300 kaw has full time 4 wheel drive and I don't like the way it steers and it tears up my yard when I turn. Also the gas milage is real bad. I run out of fuel before the other machines need fueling up.

Without question,my choice would be the AC,and I owned a Sportsman 500cc and a Xplorer 4x4.Had a bunch of problems with BOTH.

What you are describing that it will be used for,Arctic Cat In my opinion. After reading some of the posts on Polaris, I'm sure glad I bought the Cat brand.

I would suggest the Arctic Cat, and sense you mentioned pulling tralers, I would likely go with the 500 with the ACT rear suspension. These are awesome machines, not speedsters, tough & dependable.

I would recommend the AC500i or ACT. If you get the i model, it will be excellent for working, and for trail riding (I'ld argue that the AC i model rides better than the polaris, having riden them both hundreds of miles). It may not be a speed demon (top speed of 53 mph for the 500i), but if you're like me, you are looking to buy a UTILITY atv, not a sport atv. For an unbiased review of my AC500i, click here.

You really can't go wrong with any ATV. The only hard part is matching one that meets your needs. Best of Luck!
