sorry to say but none of those will out run to cops, but another quad in that class you might want to consider is the new bayou 250, my freind has the 220 ive ridden it alot, and its quit potent, although nothing compared to me scram (thats a cop outrunner ) butthe 250 should be better, solid machine, flipped end over end down a big steeeeeep hill nothing broke at all exceot a bolt on the rack loosened, rock solid, and feather light steering and good tractyion with the semi independant rear suspension, he hs gone up stuff i think is crazy, but ill follow him anywhere, except in mud , and logs, those i have to bail him out of, but i dunno after he gets his gators

Have had no experience with the Timberwolf but can say my Honda Recon has been trouble free & am satisfied with it. Had a Kawasaki 220 which I was not happy with as the engine put out so much heat during extented low speed operation that it would seize up (it always started again & would cool down if run at higher speed to get some air moving over the engine), the heat was also uncomfortable. None of the other ATV's I own give this heating problem while spot spraying noxious weeds in the brush. The Kawasaki also had a larger turning radius than any of the others, and a suspension that allowed a bucking horse ride at any speed at all. I know there are lots of Kawasaki owners who may swear by there mounts but I did not like mine. My neighbor bent the a-arms on his 220.

I would get the T-wolf,enough power to turn as big of tires as 25's with no problem, can out run a 2-stroke Polaris TrailBlazer250 and can smoke a recon.Has a better suspension,AND ITS A YAMAHA

I actually like the prairie 400 4x4 better for a mid range utility quad. Very reliable. Smooth ride. A guy I talked to has 13,000 (not 1300) miles on his prefers them due to reliability. He has only changed 3 belts, but feels that it is an easier maintenance item than clutches. He also claims that it is better to have a belt than have clutch material get in the engine oil. The CVT transmission is on the Prairie is perfect.

Excellent, Excellent Quad.

As for power, the Timberwolf isn't even close to the Recon. The Recon is faster, by far better handling, lighter, and is more dependable than the Timberwolf.

The downside on the Honda comes if you ride in extremely deep water. IF you drown the motor, you can drain and drain and drain and drain the oil, but some of it will still be there because the drain plug isn't in the lowest portion of the crankcase. Same problem with the Rancher and Foreman models.[Not sure with the Rubicon].

With the Timberwolf, not ALL I've seen have had problems, but the reliabilty factor is low. We sold a ton more Recons than Tiomberwolfs yet the Timberwolfs have had problems with carb. intakes[As with ALL Yamahas], rear differential, rear axle, premature bearing wear, shift linkage failure[Forw./Rev.], and other minor problems that have varied with the owner.

Now, I'm not saying that the Timberwolf is a BAD bike. If treated well, it should last as long as any other, but it will not hold up to ABUSIVE owners as well as other models, not just a Honda.

Hope this helps.

Please tell me all the pro's and con's on both and any other atv in their 250 class? I just want something i can ride on the weekends that is reliable and has the power when i need to use it. I will be running from the cops occasionaly too. So i need an atv that can work under stress a little every once in a while. I plan on spending between 1,500 and 2,500. What should i get ?? I really don't need 4WD, but the 1997 Wolverine is tempting to me. Please tell all! Thanx

my family has a timberwolf we bought new in 97. since that time we have abused it in every way possible. we have pet 350lb bear on the front and gone wfo down the road. we haul wood, deer, bear and feed with it . the only thing we have ever done to it is replace the battery last year. the oil only seems to get changed once a year. this is the fourth yamaha we have owned and other than rider error (large tree) we have never had a problem with their products. you will hear people slam yamaha but i can show you people that have problems with anything even hondas or a cannondale. just my 2 cents
