I have a 2000 Alpha sport 50 for my 9 year old daugther. The Alpha sport is made by Aeon and is the same as the 2001 Polaris scrambler with different plastic.I'v had it for a while now and have had no problems with it.My dealer has some new 2002 models of the 50 for $1695. The only difference between mine and the new one is they don't have headlights, mine does, they said it was to cut costs. It is easy to maintain and has been very reliable.I would recommend it.They also make a 90cc model.

The engines are all about the same HOWEVER, the front a-arms on all the mini's I have seen, except for the LT80 and Kasea, have a single weld point for the clevis pin on the front a-arm. I have seen an Aeon and a Eton break at that point with some nasty results.

I suggest the Kasea Skyhawk because of the suspension, the prewired lighting system (add lights from the Kasea Skyhawk 150 for $25.00), and the superior shocks (rebound dampening).

I bought the Polaris Sportsman 90 for my sons. It's also made by Aeon. Over all I'd say it's a pretty good and capable machine. From what I can tell there are probably better machines on the market, but this one seems very good. I know I am always amazed at where my oldest boy is able to take it.

The 90 I have will do about 35mph stock. Though I've heard of parents modifying these to do much faster. The 50's are supposed to be set at a maximum speed of 10mph from the manufacturers, but when you reset the throttle limiter and remove the various restrictors, I am sure you can get a bit more speed out of them when your children are ready for it.

Hope that helps!

Three weeks ago I got a Sundiro Ridge Runner 90 from eoexpress.com $1499 delivered (and no tax). Most of these mini's are very similar under the plastic. The ridge runner is said to have better tires & shocks than the Sunray but who knows.

Set up was not too bad. You need a battery charger and you need to check and adjust everything ( brakes, chain, air filter, etc.)

On day two, my 9 year old was going too fast on a trail and the nose and left tire wrapped around a tree ( he's fine). Need a new A arm and frame adjusting. But it still runs, bent A arm and all.

The speed is more than the suspension and handling can take in the tight trails of the NE. I have the the trottle turned down for break in period but I dont see speed or power a problem.

It starts and runs fine. I did run out of gas. Gas was visible in the tank and switching to reserve was no help so dont let it get too low.

Today, me and my 11 year old went on a 90 minute ride through some tough terrain, mud, streams, ruts he made it through fine.

I have to say I 'm satisfied. Thought hard about getting them a recon or bayou 220. But they will cost double and that age sticker (16) would bug me for a full 5 years and more.

Good luck with your choice. Sounds like a merry Christmas at your house.
