Ooooooo. That's a toughie, but I would probably get the Cannondale, just cuz it's new and right now they seem to have some great factory support for their customers if anything were to break. I don't know, though, I love my 400........a well-modified 400EX (like with a 440 kit in it) is a FANTASTIC machine!!

if ya got the money get the FX! i'd trade my 400 for one in a heartbeat. my EX is slooooooooow.

well the 400 isn't wide enough for mx either. its also not very powerful stock. handling is great and so is reliability. i hear the cannondales engine is very reliable but other parts aren't so reliable. luckly cannondale is replacing those parts for free. cannondales warrantee is the best in the biz.

I need some help deciding which to buy. I want the power of the FX400 and the handling/reliability of the 400EX. Anyone got an opinion on which would be best for trail riding, hill climbing, MX racing, etc.

It's not really a matter of money as the 2001 FX400 is $7200 out the door and the 2002 400EX is $6000 out the door. I don't think I could make the 400EX comparible for $1200 but what about reliability & handling. I understand the FX400 is not quite wide enough for MX, so there goes some more money into A-Arms, axle, etc. Just looking for anyone that bought an FX400 and maybe wished they had a tricked out 400EX instead??
