P2gal If you want a 2wd utility automatic choose the Polaris 325 Trail Boss. For a 4wd utility automatic Polaris magnum 325 or the Yamaha kodiak. For a 2wd 5 speed auto clutch utility choose the Arctic Cat 250/300 For a 4wd 5 speed auto clutch Utility choose the Arctic Cat 300, Yamaha Big Bear/Wolverine. For a 2wd sport automatic choose the Polaris Scrambler 500, or trailblazer 250 For a 2wd sport 5 speed auto clutch choose the Kawasaki lakota, Honda 250EX Each machine has their pros and cons just go out and test ride them until you find what you want.

With your initial description of what you are looking for and the fact you will be riding with sport quads...I would suggest the Polaris Scrambler. I do not suggest this because I own one but because it may fit your needs. Automatic, 2x4 or 4x4, electric start, reverse, lightweight compared to big bore utility quads, fast and fun. Plus it is very reliable no matter what some say. If you are looking at 2000 and 2001 models you can get a quad that will be able to follow the others in your group and even be a blast if you go to the dunes with your boyfriend. 2-stroke or 4-stroke. My wife/girlfriend rides a Polaris Xplorer...but when she got on my Scrambler, she began to understand why I suggested to her the idea of a lighter, sportier quad. It wont jump like a 250R, but a great ride. Just add some aftermarket tires in back and it is way less tippy for powersliding around corners. Just a thought. Good luck. P.S. You can get a gas cap with gas guage installed for about 10$...

Don't give up on an auto clutch. They are very easy to get use to. It did not take me long to learn. go for an auto clutch. this will allow you to look at more quads. You wont regret it. I never thought i could learn one, and if i could learn, believe me...so can you You should take an approved ATV course, they are free. they will help you to learn how to "lean" when going around corners, etc. Look around carfully, talk to people, read the magazines and choose carfully. -or- you will keep being tempted to trade up ...like me! hehe! i should have just went for the RAPTOR...although it would be way too much quad for me!

Well the Polaris is one option. My self I'd go with the Yamaha Kodiac (automatic). With this bike you have lots of power with the 400 engine. Some say that 400 is to big. In my opinion it has the perfect power for both work and play. You have the option to switch from 2 to 4 wheel drive. Another thing to mention is Yamaha Kodiac was voted 4 wheeler of the year (2001). Oh you also get gas gauge and speedometer. It comes in 3 colors blue, red and green. Keep in mind that regardless of which 4 wheeler you purchase get a winch. That will save a lot of pushing should you get stuck. I'm not sure exactly how much a Kodiac is in the U.S but its probably more than the Polaris. Good Luck

Reading your post, I noticed that you sound small like me. I started out with a Honda Recon, auto clutch, reverse, lightweight, easy to corner, good all around quad. But... I wanted something a little bit sportier, I wasn't real thrilled with the suspension. I looked into a new Honda 250ex. What a great quad. It has everything you are looking for, and is very lightweight and easy to ride. I have owned Polaris and Hondas. I had the same problems with the Polaris, I couldn't turn them when I was tired. A suggestion? Don't get a 4x4 quad, or something that will be too big for you. You don't want to get hurt. I thought I could ride my hubby's Polaris 400 Sport, I ended up eating a tree. Take your time, ride all the quads you can get your hands on, and make your final decision from there. It took me two years to find the right quad for me. You can find all the information on the net. You will need something with easy suspension, good turning radius(s) and ease of handling. Have fun and ride safe! Always wear a bean protector! Hi There, I just bought a Polaris magnum 325 4x4. It seems to fit most of what you are looking for and is reasonably priced. It's motor is big enough to have fun, but not overly powerfull. Top speed is about 40Mph, fast enough to have fun but not crazy. It's auto, has reverse, electric start, headlights, etc. You can get it in 2x4 as well. My wife is tiny and she loves to drive it. It was a little hard to steer at first but she got used to it quickly. You may also want to consider the trailboss. It has the same engine, but is a little cheaper, I think because it does not have the racks and only has 2wd. Check out my site below for some pictures.

I already know what I want in a quad, but I just don't know what quad has all of the things I need. I want a quad that is automatic. I'm a beginner and only drove once. So I want to practice more without having to mess with gears. I want reverse! I'm very small and I'm afraid I won't be able to turn the thing around if I get stuck on a narrow trail and have to turn around. I also want a starter switch. Again it's less to mess with. I want something that is easy to turn cause I'm small but I don't want it tippy either. I want to be able to go around corners and maybe slid around a little if I want without tipping over and killing myself. Oh ya... one more thing, I have a problem with telling how much gas I have left in the tank, so I would like a gas gauge. If you could tell me the quad that best fits this description it would be greatly appreciated! Thanx in advance! no quad(sad but true)

The only quad I've ever drove was a grizzly. It was very hard to steer at first but I got the hang of it by the end of the day.It made me get tired very quick and as I was on my way home I ended up crashing. It wasn't just because I was tired. I was going to fast across a field and when I came over this hill I had to turn right after it and I couldn't. I know I shouldn't have been going that fast for the first time but I think I might have been able to pull out of it if it wasn't for the fact that it tired me out because of the wieght and since I was already tired it made it impossible to turn. Now I know you'll get tired after a day of riding, no matter what quad you have but I think I would have been able to go longer and avoided the crash if it were lighter. But like I said, I don't want it too light so that it tips over on turns.

I don't have anything to ride. wwwwaaaaaaaaaa!!!! And my boyfriends quad is being fixed for the next racing season. Nothing to ride, getting cabin fever!!! your lucky

I'm not really sure about the price thing. I want to figure out which quad I'm going to get and then earn the money. I won't get it anytime soon that's for sure. And I want a new one either 2000 or 2001 so it's going to be more expensive than a used I do know that. But I'll have one by the end of the year.(I hope)Like I said I'm not really concerned with the money just yet. Once I pick which one I want than I'll worry about the money.Besides I'm not going to be cheap with something that I can kill myself on.

since we are practically neighbors you can come ride with my boyfriend and I, and maybe some of or friends sometime...hehe we could always use more riders. My boyfriend works at a Yamaha dealership here in town and so does his best friend. My boyfriends got a 250R and his friend has a banshee and a rapter. You should come ride with us.They are pretty hard core riders and they both race.

OK so my next question is, what kind of quad has everything I described and is an auto clutch instead?

2p. if my 5'3" 103 lb. 'ol lady can manage an arctic cat 500auto, anybody can(lol).you may want to consider the kodiac, it's light, plenty of power and has all the pre-requisits you require. i just didn't like the rear suspension for my applications. where in n.y. state are you. and "sad but true" is a great song.....later

well, a grizz is a rather imposing bike to start off with, wouldn't you agree. speed, is a dangerous option when you don't have that much experience. test some quads that fit your frame and level of comfortability. learn how to lean into turns, using your weight to balance out the inertia. start out slow so you will be around to enjoy the sport.

i live in delaware county, we're practically neighbors, huh? have some good snow to cushion those high speed stunts?lol.i couldn't work today so i guess i'll just have to blaze some new trails in the fluffy stuff. oh well, life is tough.

how much are you looking to spend? that will pretty much dictate your choices. look into some left over 2000 models,, you can usually get a real good deal on one.

Posted by: badhabits

no, a good quad cost about as much as a coffin.experience will usually knock down the death factor a notch or two. spend the time while saving to test drive any bikes you might be interested in. you can usually finance them for a good deal.

Posted by: badhabits

if i ever get that far west we'll look you guys up. since he works at a yamaha dealer you should be able to really test the kodiac. i think you'll like it. my wife really liked it but i had more reasons for the arctic cat and she got accustomed to it real quick. they don't race around real quick though, but it will pull just about anything i hook up to it.there is a wrench for every nut, so they say.
