This maybe a little extreme but Mountain Goat Trailer out of Nebraska makes an off-road trailer that follows the same tire grooves as the ATV. It goes almost anywhere with a trick axle, I have used it on hunting trips. It maybe way more than you need but it is one awesome off-road trailer. They have a web site with pictures, and yes it ain't cheap!

Greetings,
Northern has a number of trailers for ATVs. You can see them at northerntool.com. I bought the red ATV trailer -- sturdy all over, good axles, tilt body, lift out tailgate, 700 lbs capacity, standard hitch, high clearance, and big big tires. It follows pretty much anywhere.
If I remember correctly, it was around $200 or $300. Some of the others hold more or have different wheel configurations, etc. but I liked the compact size with the large wheels. Cabelas offers the same trailer in black.
If you get on Northern's preferred buyers list (whatever its called) you will soon get an offer for free shipping (generally the first fifty pounds). This helps a lot for a big item like a trailer. Plus, Northern has a lot of good stuff for ATVs and related activities so once you're on the list, you should find it a handy resource.
You might check out Cycle Country (accessible through the ATV Connection home page). I believe they offer a heavy duty plastic cart with rounded edges that looks interesting.
And one other thing, make sure the trailer you get has a hitch compatible with your ATV's set up. My trailer came with a 1&7/8" ball hitch which worked perfectly on my 450ES. But there are a variety of linkages out there and you can spend a lot of time mucking around trying to convert something to fit (go ahead -- ask me about my flail mower). So just check that out in advance.

Northern Parts catalog had a 4' X 8' trailer with
turf tires on it. It could handle 2000 lbs and only needed a ball and hitch from the quad.

Cabela's has a utility trailer, but it's very expensive.

Where can I find a trailer for field use, similiar
to the lawnmower type, but tougher, maybe more ground clearance. Not looking for a hwy.-type trailer.
Any direction would be appreciated.
Thanks,Sam

Most of the ATV trailers that I've seen are just re-labled trailers that are otherwise sold/manufactured to be pulled behind a garden tractor. Some of those trailers are fairly tough and should be fine, if your hitch mechanism matches up. Pay close attention on those models to whether the wheels actually ride on ball bearings or just a solid greased axle with no bearings. Stay away from the smoother tires-they always develop slow leaks. Believe it or not, Rubbermaid makes a pretty nice one with heavy duty tires and good ground clearance. They're available at Home Depot and other home stores. The big thing to consider is, a lot of items sold for ATV "specialty" use are identical to products sold at much lower prices for other uses. Another suggestion-how about a cheap trailer that's really made to pull behind a car? They would hold a lot of weight, have larger tires with more ground clearance, and can be bought both new and used fairly inexpensively. Good luck!
