I might be getting a new ATV by the spring(no later), and I have a few options but I'm having a hard time choosing....first I ride on dirt trails, mud, grass, snow and on the road(shhh!!) I will use it to work a bit also maybe plow snow. I am 15 5ft 11 1/2in. 185lbs.
I have a few choices.....Honda 300 4x4, Arctic-cat 300 and 400 4x4's, Yamaha Wolverine 4x4. I want something fast but to be able to go through mud...so the wolverine looks good for me.
Ohh I also want a quad that will beat my friends Yamaha 350 big bear 2x4. will the wolverine beat it??
Any suggestions or comments??

No way does his '99 2x4 big bear go 47MPH...my 200SX goes 50MPH...his Big Bear must go more than that.
I want to buy used...the rancher looks nice...but I like the AC 400 4x4 the most.

Well I know my quad does at top speed 50MPH...his Big Bear goes faster than that.
Ask anyone with a 200SX...they do go 50MPH.

Yes I did have a car follow behind me and it went 50MPH.
The Big Bear he has is a 2wd so the 2wd's are sometimes a bit faster than the 4wd models of the same kind.

There are only a few 4x4 that can hit 60 mph and the Wolverine is one of them the others are both Polaris Scamblers,Sportsman 500 (H.O only),600 Grizzly and 400 Xplorer.Your fiends Big Bear would be lucky to hit 47 mph. The down side of the Wolverine is it cost alot for its size and lack of features such as full time 4wd and air cooled motor.I think it cost about the same as a liguid cooled selectable 4wd 400 Kodiak and 500 Polaris Magnium. The upside of the Wolverine to me is it is the lightest 4x4 you can but ,it's even lighter than all the 250 cc 4x4s made and has long travel suspension.

The 400 Big bears do not hit 50mph how can a 350 model.I never heard of a 200sx is that some sort of sport quad? A 350 Rancher and Kodiak do 50mph and I know the Kodiak is faster than a 400 Big Bear.

Get a car to follow you and find out how fast you can really can go,I did.I know I can do 55mph tops and I go by my friends Rancher and 2000 Kodiak on the long straights at a jogs pace.A Big bear is a lower geared utiliy quade that will not keep up the a Rancher or Kodiak sorry.Put up a new post at the Yamaha forum and ask the Big bears owners how fast they can go.Most people own 400 Big Bears and they did not buy them for speed thats for sure.

hey dude im glad you finally get another quad, its a great feeling aint it.
i have no experiance with any of these quads so i have no idea what to tell you. but i do know the wolvorene has the same motor as a warrior. but as long as you got a motor and four wheels you will have fun

Definetly get the wolverine, they are quite the machine and you'll probally be happy in the long run, its got a good mix of everything..

Now let me confirm this... is that your FINAL ANSSSSERRRR??? ;)

ATV speedos are notorious for letting you think you are going faster than you think you are. I have a 400 Xplorer which will just hit 60 on a good day. I have passed people who claimed to be doing over 60 without using full throttle. I would take all top speeds with a grain of salt unless clocked by a GPS or checked against a car speedo.

Hi,
No, a Wolverine will not beat a Big Bear. As always, I have to recommend the Honda FourTrax Rancher 4x4. It is fast, very capable, very powerful for work, and is an all-around excellent ATV. Okay, I'm done.

brokemybanshee,
I will buy your motorcycle for $1. That is my final offer.

Hi,
My Honda FourTrax Rancher goes 52mph, and my Yamaha Kodiak 4x4 goes 57mph. It is not only the size of the engine that determines speed. The sizes of the gears have a significant effect on overall speed of the ATV.

Or you guys can read the ATVconnection.com reviews and see what their top clocked speeds are for every ATV they review. =)
