A deer on a Recon? Have you sat on a Recon the only thing phycically smaller are the kiddy bikes. After you sit on the Recon go sit on a Artic Cat 250,it's much larger in size and has a much higher tow and carry capacity.I seen a Beartracker,Recon and AC 250 side by side and the AC is much larger and has a 246cc vs the other two at 229cc.

I think everybodies 250 2wd utilities are under $5000.The lighter bikes are better for jumping but the larger heavier ones can carry a load better.

I do not think any utility bike jumps well or at least it will not for long. The Recon is the lightest at 397lbs put with only 5 inches of suspension travel it would be a rough landing. The Lakota is 62 lbs heavier than the Recon but has much more suspension travel to handle the landings and more power.

My freind tried to pull a 8x10 shed that was on logs to help it roll along the ground with his Lakota. The front of the bike wanted to pop straight up and we could smell the clutch burning. The 1st gear on his bike is like a 2nd gear on a utility bike in high range. You would be better off gutting the deer and tying to carry it out. How big are the deer down there?I do not know the 300EX but I bet it's not geared to low either.

The Rancher does not look like a jumper and all you can carry on a EX is what fits in your pockets, not the way to go hunting. The Wolverine in the best sport/utiliy,lightest 4wd,long suspension and fast(6o mph) but it cost quite a bit for a 350.

I want a to get a quad as cheap as possible, and I plan on hunting and trailriding, and maybe a few small jumps. I definently need racks for hunting and I don't care about 4wd athough it would be nice. I have been looking at the Kawasaki Lakota and the Honda Recon.I was originally going to get the lakota but after I pay 100 dollars for just a rear rack which the dealer told me would not support a deer. Which would you recomend and why.

what other quads would you reccomend that can still be good trailriders and occasional jumpers, under $5000?
Posted by: Rudnik
I'm not necessarily limiting myself on cc's do you know of any other quads that will do what I want for under 5k. I don't care who makes them, if they are 4wd or 2wd or how big I just want to be able to hunt, jump, and ride.

Would a quad like the 300ex be able to drag a dear out of the woods?

would the rancher still be able to handle jumps?
my thoughts are that since I only hunt about 1-2 wks out of the year I should just get something that will be more fun the whole year, and hope it can work in the winter.

Polaris makes a 250 4x4. It is more or less utility machine with just a hint of sportiness. It has a 2 cycle engine in it. I don't know what your feelings are on that. They really have quite a bit of zip and hold up well. The downside is louder and slightly less fuel efficient. They are billed as the most affordable full sizes 4x4 out there. Also have switchable 2 to 4 wd. The other machines mentioned are great machines, too. But this is the most affordable 4x4 with racks I can think of. It will handle small to med. jumping. Test drive one, I bet you will be surprised how much power they DO have. Easily tuned to make a lot more, especially if you can live with a louder muffler.

why , the Honda Rancher 4x2 for 4399.If you want 4x4, its only 800.00 more.

This is my opinion, I have research alot of ATVs and my favorite for the $5000.00 is the Arctic cat 300 4x4. I believe it's the best 300 on the market for the price. Research the Arctic cat Atvs you might find what your looking for!
Good Luck!!

If you want a good quad so you can have fun on and for hunting I would suggest the Honda Fourtrax Rancher. Its 2 wheel drive, Manual foot shift and it cost less than $5,000. The Honda Fourtrax Rancher is $4,399. It has 329cc. From what I have heard about the Rancher they are a awesome atv. I am hoping to buy a Rancher in the upcoming months. So good luck on your purchase and I hope you find what you are looking for. Thanks.
