Lemme see if I got this right.... You will consider a new machine but don't want to hear about shocks (except for 200 dollar junkers)??
If your 400 is sutable motor wise, then it's shocks dude.
Yes the LTR and TRX450R's stock shocks are better but any stock machine will need aftermarket shocks.
Raptor:: I donno what Yamahaha was thinking to develop this pre-historic slug, then name 1/2 of their line up after it. LMAO.

You want my honest opinion.....

I think you should give Polaris a look. They have nearly the best stock shocks, in my opinion.

If you are looking to spend some cash....the new Outlaws the the KTM motors are good quads. Plenty of power, and I think the heavier built frame can take abuse. Should have the shocks too....

chets440, any of the 450's or the Polaris predator 500(525coming out soon) would be great for what you want to do

ok, I took my 06 Outlaw 500 and put 18" rear MX tires on it and 20" MX tires up front, changed the front sprocket for the gear ratio difference and did the air and exhaust, jetted it and raced some MX this year, didn't race the GNCC Nationals this year, long story. I am able to trophy in MX with the stock mototr. The 525 KTM motor is even faster. Although the IRS Outlaw isn't perfectly suited for MX, I proved I could compete with highly modded Jap quads in my class. It is a quad suited for my weight and size. I got after market springs for my weight on my Fox Podium shocks and don't bottom out. thats your cheapest way out without buying expensive shock bodies. I use these shocks for my crosscountry racing and stiffened them up for MX and they were fine. Did I mention that I am almost 6'5" and 300 pounds? The Polaris Outlaw or Predator fits me perfect while the other brands make me feel like I have my heels up my rear while sitting. Go check them out at a dealer...

ltr450. and it not the raptors 700 are to high but there frames are setup more for trailriding and draging so dont do as well as a 450 on the track. (on 450s they try to keep the wieght balanced and on a raptor 700 they put alot of the wieght up front to keep the front end down on takeoff) and 2004 and below raptor 660 are ok quad but do ride to high and dont have nearly the suspestion setup the 450s or raptor 700 has.

Well, I'm 240 and many, many years older. I ride a 2006 YFZ Fo Fiddy.

The stock shocks are very adjustable and if want a bit more without spending the bucks on arms and aftermarket shocks, GTThunder revalves and puts dual rate springs on them for you based on your weight and riding style.

Easy and cheap mods like pulling the baffel, K&N air filter, remove the airbox lid, Jet kit and finally a Cam mod. (retard it one tooth, 'How to's' all over the net) will give alot of gidupandGO!

All of this you can do yourself, (except the Shocks) for about $150 bucks.

After that, it's a new pipe and muffler, around $400 to $500.

alright,so as of today i got a 400ex,i do trails and tracks up to 60 footers,i do it all (except dunes) my only problem is im a heavy rider around 250lb,so my 400ex is a little soft and isnt that great on jumps(its hurts)
as far as suspension which one would be the best?and which turns quickest? i ride with dirt bikes so i need something that can go into a turn and haul out without flippin(no a arm kits)and then can do a 50+ footer and not bottom out
yamaha 450?
honda 450?
raptor 660?
suzuki 450?
also ive heard befor the raptor isnt good on tracks cuz its too tall is this true too?
generally i only ride honda because im not in to fixing things except servicing oil,filters,fluids....
which one would i be best with?
also id be buying the earlier editions of all these like 2004 or lower for raptor
no aftermarket suspension advice please unless its under $200

By the sounds of it your best bet is the suzuki LTR450. Id ajust the shocks to be alittle stiffer though.

IMO STOCK quads plus 60 footers = FTL

Posted by: ttrain16

you could always just try to get stiffer shocks that way when you preload it will be just like you being 150lbs on a banshee or something

Posted by: banshee988

just buy a banshee and youll be good
