We bored our sons 86 250r .010 over stock and were putting it back together last night. I had torqued the cylinder down at 35 ft. lbs and was doing the head at 23 ft. lbs and one of the head studs broke. I should have bought new studs (which I am doing now), but is 35 ft. lbs. for the cylinder and 23 ft. lbs. for the head correct? Also since I torqued the head down do I have to put another new head gasket on it? The head and base gasket were both new.
Thanks for any input.

Ridley, thanks for the info. We are going to try it like that. I call the local Honda dealer to order some parts and they said the cylinder range is 27-35 lbs. and the head range 17-21 lbs. The son is going to do a little hare scramble racing this year. His machine is stock except for a Sparks mx pipe, Works front shocks (non res), nerfs, skids, etc. Thanks again.

We put a stock head gasket back on the machine. I was going to torque on the low side of the spec. though. We have a friend that runs a 250r that used the goodentighten method on all his bolts. Ha ha. We like the performance of the pipe, except the chrome plating on the head pipe came off the first ride. We glass bead cleaned and replated at a local shop, but it did not come out so great.

Maybe next time. He has a race next weekend and he is looking forward to it. Are you near Wooster? My wife was born and raised there.

Ridley, what year CR head gasket do you recommend for the 86??? I have a buddy who is looking at this mod, but can't get a straight answer from anyone. Thanks in advance. Haz
