i just sent this email to the staff at DW mag... anyone else have thoughts on this?
this is about the comments made by Jeremiah Jones in the December issue of your magazine on Pg. 208-209.
in response to the question of whether there should be a national on the west coast he stated: "No, I don't think there are enough amateurs out west to make a national work. The number of amateur entries helps make up the pro purse."
While I know he has a right to say it, it makes it clear that, unlike the amateurs, he doesn't just chase a trophy & title. it also infers that he also doesn't want to have to drive that far to take home some $$$.... although, that's what throw out's are for, isn't it?
while there isn't enough amateurs out west now, how big were the national race series when they started out east? how big was the purse then? if nationals are to move west, they have to start somewhere... even if it's small.
if a national series isn't truly national, why is it even called national? none of the GNC or GNCC go very far past the Mississippi river, much less approach the rocky mountains.
as an amateur C class racer that goes to races when i can & can afford to,(when I can find them, sanctioned or not) i think that attitudes like this hurt the advance of an awesome sport.
on the other hand there are other sanctioning bodies, other series, and the ATVA needs to take notice that while their membership out west may be slacking, racers like myself are noticing.... what do we get for that membership?
thanks for printing the info on the WORCS series... more racers need to see it, especially out west.

A cpl. issues::
1) Certainly there are enough amatures out west! Maybe not enopugh pro's(and they will not run a series w/o the premaddona class)What is lacking out west is the promotors to make it happen!
2) If DirtWheels rag said canada was up north,,I'd get a map to make sure. It's hard to say what JJ actually said.

Hopefully the WORCS will get some decent ATV turn outs this year, which may encourage other quad races to be held. I would have definitely raced when I was going to school in Montana or Washington, but there were just no events held (except for some flat-track races in Monroe, Wa-- but that didn't seem very fun to me).
